I'd never heard of Studio Warehouse, also known as SWG3, before going to see Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros there recently. It's an old warehouse and quite small as far as gig venues go. I'd heard they also hold art exhibitions and I saw a poster for a roller disco whilst I was there. Awesome!
All in all, it's quite a cool venue, with a funky disco ball hanging mid floor. They had a spinning light effect on and my motion sickness was going into overdrive but luckily, this stopped during the gig itself. The sound and lighting desk is almost slap bang in the centre of the venue, rather than hidden at the very back, which I quite liked. It gave the venue a raw, lively feel.
The toilets were a little strange with uniform green doors, all dark. They were matching even the main door, making it a little tricky to find the exit. My cubicle was poorly lit which wasn't great but I did like the huge light bulbs on the bathroom mirrors which created a shabby chic glamorous dressing room feel. It's all very hipster, cosey and cool as well as a little out of the way and hard to find (Even for me, as a 'Weegie. Clearly, a bad one!) but as far as venues go, it's definitely not run of the mill. read more
