I've had an obsession with Lake Erie since the first time I set eyes on her a few decades ago, yes…read morewe've shared some memories that will last a life time. I lived not so far from her shores for a number of years so I've experienced her in all seasons and I say with certainty no particular one is my favorite since each are unique and all are special in some sense. My most recent visit from the shores of Buffalo in February is one of frozen sheets of ice jammed against the shore appearing lifeless and stranded, barren and eerie waiting in utter silence for the warmth of spring to thaw her surface and return the beauty she exhibits so beautifully. I've eaten a Tony Packo Dog on her shores in Toledo and skipped stones across the breaking waves near Edgewater Park outside Cleveland. This lake has provided so much to so many. I've drank wine and eaten hors d'oeuvre on a catamaran at sunset a mile or two from downtown Cleveland and ventured out before daylight from Geneva-on-the-Lake twenty five miles from Canada to catch a limit of walleye from a fishing charter. I've walked her frozen shores in Mentor as the ice shelves heaved onto the shore etching the sand while reshaping the shoreline and experienced the endless lake effect snows that buries the town of Chardon in late November, then camped on the shores at Presque Isle in the spring where you could see a lake perch grab your bait nearly thirty feet below the surface. The water that provides all the joy to so many while traveling over Niagara Falls into Lake Ontario never grows old, it's a very tranquil view no matter which shore you look over her...

Words can't express how much I love the ice at Buff State. This is one of those times where I…read morealmost hesitated to write the review because I didn't want to give away any secrets. Once again, the need to share the knowledge rises above and I will happily share how the rink at Buff State rises above the others. I'm a novice ice skater, so I prefer to have a rink with flexible hours, helpful staff, and no huge crowds. While this last one is not always easy to have, good crowd management is vital. The staff at Buff State, like at RIT to the east, is helpful and supportive. They will tell you if you're doing something unsafe and will guide you off the ice at the end of open skate. Also, they cut the music at the end, which is much less of a shock than slamming on the buzzer. I've said it before and I'll say it again: rinks should end open skate by cutting the music, not slamming on the excruciatingly loud buzzer. It's just easier and safer this way. Buff State is concerned about patron safety and it shows. Admission is $3, free with a Buff State ID, and skate rental is $2. Seriously, it's a steal. Now that I have my own skates, $3 admission is completely worth it to me. Open skate time is typically around two hours, plenty of time to get your money's worth. If you feel so compelled, you can rent the ice by the hour. Last time I was there, they were setting up for a birthday party to take place after open skate ended. The rink itself is rather large, being a college hockey facility, so there's lots of room to skate around. I'm usually on the perimeter, going forward as I learn, but there are plenty of people in the center trying jumps and spins. The ice is good quality and I never feel as though the kids there are trying to create ruts in the ice, where I will inevitably get stuck. I guess I just have to keep practicing, right? If you're new to skating, the ice at Buff State is perfect to practice on. Yes, the schedule is not always the most open due to the hockey teams, but when it's available, it's my first choice for open skating. See you on the ice!

The Bisons Event team absolutely nailed it. The food was fantastic, the service was impeccable, and the venue space itself was perfect. From a planning perspective, the entire day was completely seamless. We didn't have to worry about a single detail, which allowed us to be fully present and cherish every moment with our guests. John was attentive, accommodating and so friendly. Jarrett took the time to come down and meet us and check in on how things were going. They always do fun theme nights and giveaways, including Dog Days at the Park, where you can bring your pup and there's a section dedicated to dogs and their owners. We definitely chose the best giveaway this year! They had Buster cereal bowls and full-size boxes of Cheerios, which are very well-loved by my kids. I just took my boys this time. One insisted on popcorn, while the other wanted nachos. The popcorn must have been delicious because he had to sit a whole row away from us to prevent his brother from repeatedly grabbing handfuls. It's definitely an overall win. Between the atmosphere, the games, the fun promotions, and the fact that I spent just over $10 on snacks for the boys, I really can't complain!

There's many shelters available to rent that are spread throughout this expansive park. In that way, it reminds me of Akron Falls State Park. So many playgrounds, too. We visited a couple, but I think there were several more. Originally I planned to take my boys to play in the creek at Charles E Burchfield Nature Center, but I noticed pictures of people playing in a creek here, too, and I'm glad we came. We did have a hard time finding a clear path to the water where we first noticed people, but there's a stone staircase leading down near shelter 21 and the playground with the dinosaur slide. So many tadpoles. Later we found another place to access the creek from a nature trail. As another review mentions, the trail is narrow, but only at the beginning. It widens later on. There's a fun little bridge the boys liked crossing, and a great spot for a picnic near the creek. You'd have to bring your own folding table but it's a relatively flat area in a grove of trees. If you like the trails and creek at Charles E. Burchfield, but you need to rent a shelter, this park is perfect.
