I have been residing in The Clark for almost two years. The experience has been less than average compared to other rental properties. I say this because the management team needs a class in professionalism, customer service and business ethics. I came to The Clark because I believed Buzzuto had a reputation for excellence. However, since living here, that is not always the case. On Labor Day weekend, I was notified the central air unit in my apartment was not working. To my surprise, multiple units were left without air conditioning during this hot weekend. When I came home Monday, my apartment was blazen hot (about 90 degrees inside) and I was frustrated. Later that day, I received a call from Douglas the concierge (he is always a joy to speak with) about a temporary fix to the problem because management did not have a timeframe for when they would be able to restore the AC unit in my house in addition to the other apartments. After hearing this, I was upset! It's September in The DMV and it gets extremely hot. Management further explained there was a component in the ac unit that was broken and they needed to order it from their vendors. They advised this process would take an extended amount of time because the part was on back order. Okay, fine. I get that and I can be patient when met with reasonable solutions. I also understand things happen outside of a properties control. But when things happen, I do expect to be reasonably met and compensated in some capacity for my inconveniences, especially if they are for an extended amount of time. However, their "solution" was to place a portable window air conditioner in the apartment. For this, the window had to remain open at all times. Again, I was frustrated with this solution because the AC unit was loud and I, along with other units that are impacted, live outside the Transit Bus Station and Highway 1, which is extremely loud. When they initially put in the portable, it was in my bedroom and advised they would place insulation with the unit, so I wouldn't be disturbed by the noise. This was false and it was so loud that I was afraid I wouldn't sleep due to the noise. I even made a recording so other people could see how loud and ridiculous this solution was. As a result, I spoke to management about my frustrations and asked if there was an expected timeline for when the central AC would be fixed. They advised there was not. They further stated I would have to deal with their solution because they addressed the problem and I had "air". To this, I was mind blown because the air was so loud and barely cooled off my unit. I also asked if they would be frustrated if they were in this position and Raquel, the associate general manager, advised she would be more accommodating and would put in earplugs as she slept. She further implied I could use this as a solution. To this, I said, I pay $2100 for a 1 bedroom 700 square foot place and you want me to try to sleep in warm air, with earplugs in for an extended period of time because their is no expected timeframe for when the central air will be fixed. I then asked if there would be talks for concessions or rent reductions for the HUGE inconvenience and she advised "no,". She stated they didn't know how long this process would take and they already technically addressed the problem. Again, mind blown. I then asked them to remove the unit and place it in the living room so I could sleep a little more peacefully. However, because it needed to go by the window, it had to be seated beside my dogs crate. I have a dog with anxiety and she was immediately freighted by the noise and the air system being that close to her. Now, there is no way for me to leave her at my apartment with the air on. If I turn the air off, the house will get so hot it reads 85/90 degrees in the apt. I feel that is too hot for her in house. I took her to day care and I'm paying out of pocket because the house is too uninhabitable for her. Two weeks later and the air isn't fixed. Also, no talks of any rent reduction and no date for it to be resolved. read more
