Then they have lunch and nap time and the afternoon is play time. If its nice out they all go outside in the back which is very secure and has a jungle gym and other various toys. When its raining or cold they have a big room that they call the "movement room" and its like a mini gymnasium that the kids can run around and play in. They also have different activities during different holidays and even held a picture day with a photographer like they do in grade/high school. The teachers are all really friendly and genuinely care about your child. Lastly and one of my favorite things is that they utilize an app that allows your child's teacher to send you updates throughout the day and they even send you pictures- it always makes me smile when I am at work and get a notification that they posted a picture, it really makes my day!! One of the lifeguards constantly crossed personal boundaries and eventually called me an alcoholic because I did not accept his unsolicited medical advice. The aquatics director and CEO made me stand in his office despite me telling the CEO that I cannot stand or sit for an extended period due to chronic pain and my disability, and while making me stand and listen to him repeat everything he said over email, they both basically took the side of the lifeguard, suggesting without asking the offensive party that the lifeguard was "joking" and I was more or less holding a grudge. They even suggested that the Bayside pool wasn't the right pool for me because I was offended by being called an alcoholic by this lifeguard. They never asked the lifeguard to apologize to me after I requested an apology. I do not feel respected at this YMCA branch. Another issue is the staff don't tell you that there's an additional annual fee on top of the regular monthly fee and joiner's fee until after you've joined. I reached out to the same CEO and membership director about this issue, and have been met with silence for over a month. But when they didn't like that I complained about a lifeguard slandering me and his continued foul mannerisms towards me, the CEO wouldn't leave me alone constantly emailing me and demanding I go into his office when I asked for a phone call to accommodate my disability to address the issue.

Their family membership is an excellent value when you take into consideration the complementary child care. Their pool and locker facilities were recently renovated and are very nice. The YMCA offers a wide variety of classes, and although the selection might not be as robust as other facilities, I have enjoyed them. The cardio/weights room, where I spend a lot of time has been updated with brand new equipment and is well managed - there are typically available cardio machines in the busy morning hours. This Y is also located next to the East Bay Bike Path - so one can easily bike here, and go out running during or after a visit. Bottom line a good value, a good facility for the area.

The owner had assured us that no charges would be made without our approval, yet he went ahead anyway. He later emailed claiming he would issue a refund by check, but that never happened. He continues to claim we gave consent and that the refund was processed--neither of which is true. We never agreed to anything, never signed paperwork, and never received our money back. This place is only interested in taking your money and will say anything to justify it. Avoid at all costs!

There's no real education provided because the "Waldorf" method of observational learning is what most children receive at home anyways (observing adults clean, cook, iron clothes etc.). It's nice they spend so much time outside; however, having children eat breakfast early in the morning on frigid winter days is just unnecessarily miserable (to name one example). The director suddenly left for weeks and the woman, Stephanie, who was appointed to replace her didn't seem to have any real qualifications. At drop-off and pick-up I also noticed issues with Helen/Mr. Carl and Stephanie treating the other employees poorly. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.

Our kids have spend a combined four years at BECC, and we have had nothing but good experiences with the school. We recommend it to everyone we know with preschool aged kids. Pros: Play based learning- the kids learn so much, but they just think they're playing. Happy Veteran Teachers- seriously there are teachers who have been at the school for 30 years! Face-to-face interactions on a daily basis with teachers- every day at pick up and drop off I get to see my kids classroom and teachers. Authentic assessments- the teachers observe and track student progress with pictures and notes, and then collect them all into a portfolio that they then share during conferences. Super clean- no gross preschool smell here Playground community- the playground is a great place to meet up before and after school! Non-Profit Status- provides opportunities for volunteering and involvement School Board of Directors- parents apply to be involved in decision making and support of the school Cons: The school ends at age 5- I would sign my kids up for all of elementary school here if I could!
