Little Red School House

Little Red School House

I just love the Little Red! This is an old fashion single classroom teacher parent co-op school…read morehoused in a late 1800 school house. The house is old, the floor is slightly slanted, but you can not find better teachers to have for your preschoolers. I have looked high and low trying to find a similar close knitted school experience for my daughter at the end of her 2nd year there (because we were moving out of the area). I really couldn't and we truly were contemplating with the option of having my nanny to drive my kid 45 min each way just so she can complete her year there. Luckily we didn't have to do that since the closing of our new house fell after the graduation. There was a child in my daughter class who cried every morning for the better part of the first year. And one of the teachers would hold her and rub her back every morning until she is ready to join the other children. The teachers are just so warm and caring. I wish I were the one who is attending the school! I like the fact that the school is rather old fashion and has very define routine and schedule the kids follow every day. It's definitely one of the few preschool still takes the kids out for field trips each year. Since it's a teacher parent co-op school, there are lots of opportunity to volunteer in school. In fact, the snacks are provided each day by different parent. I really appreciate the chance to be in the classroom with my child and able to observe how she learns/behaves in a school setting. I like the fact that it's a nonprofit school (as all school should be!). You can tell that the teachers want to be there; want to provide the best education to your kids. It's not those for profit childcare places that you can almost hear the "ka-ching" in the background and the school fines you even if you are 2 min late picking up your kid at the end of the day. Despite us moving out of the area, we do plan to go back and visit often! My daughter really misses the teacher and "her kids". Little Red will always be that special school in our hearts.

Our kids have spend a combined four years at BECC, and we have had nothing but good experiences with the school. We recommend it to everyone we know with preschool aged kids. Pros: Play based learning- the kids learn so much, but they just think they're playing. Happy Veteran Teachers- seriously there are teachers who have been at the school for 30 years! Face-to-face interactions on a daily basis with teachers- every day at pick up and drop off I get to see my kids classroom and teachers. Authentic assessments- the teachers observe and track student progress with pictures and notes, and then collect them all into a portfolio that they then share during conferences. Super clean- no gross preschool smell here Playground community- the playground is a great place to meet up before and after school! Non-Profit Status- provides opportunities for volunteering and involvement School Board of Directors- parents apply to be involved in decision making and support of the school Cons: The school ends at age 5- I would sign my kids up for all of elementary school here if I could! I am writing this review as my kids are both aging out of the school this year and I want spread the word about this school that has provided such a safe, loving, and supportive learning environment for my kiddos!

Excellent play based program. Dedicated teachers who clearly love working with the kids.read more

Our daughter started attending preschool at the Montessori Centre of Barrington this fall and so…read morefar we give it an A+. The director has been very organized, professional and responsive to all of our needs; the teachers are very kind, engaging and accessible; and the curriculum seems fun and challenging at the same time. We are also big fans of the Montessori model: mixed-age classrooms; student choice of activity from within a prescribed range of options; a "discovery" model, in which students learn concepts from working with materials, rather than by direct instruction; and specialized educational materials developed by the Montessori founder and her collaborators. I really believe the Montessori method works. In just a short time, I can see my daughter blossoming into a very caring, curious and independent individual. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, my daughter looks forward to going to school every day. We had never dropped her off anywhere before starting preschool- not for daycare or even at a grandparent's house because our family lives out of state. I was so worried the first week that she would have a hard time, but I had nothing to fear. She LOVES school. Every morning she comes up with a new adjective to describe the kind of day she will have. Wonderful. Glorious. Magnificent. And every day it is. Such a positive way to start our child's educational journey.

Our son has food allergies and they have taken the uptmost care to make sure he is safe and we feel comfortable, over communicating on holidays and birthdays when other students bring snacks etc. He's enrolled in piano classes on Wednesdays, does Yoga on Tuesdays, is getting exposed to Spanish - all offered through the school. 5/5 stars for the team there.

We loved it and would recommend it highly! Mr. Carl, the owner, Ms. Tracey, the director, and Miss Hilary and Miss Kelly, the teachers for the Sprouts class were all FABULOUS. They were kind, accommodating, welcoming and patient. We felt so lucky to have found this warm and stable environment in which our daughter could play and learn as we navigated a strange, interim period. In addition to the incredible staff, here are a few more things we really appreciated: - Waldorf education philosophy - no technology - lots of outdoor time, regardless of the weather (kids would wear Muddy Buddies) - wooden toys only - baking bread on Thursdays! - healthy breakfast and lunch served every day - COVID-19 protocols were impeccable - teachers would email daily summaries with photos - super speedy response time to phone calls and emails - option to send your kids 2, 3, or 5 days a week - classrooms for kids of different ages. We weren't able to take advantage of this, because our son's immunizations were out of date (oops) but a great option for families with multiple kids I wish we could transport Apple Blossom back to California with us!

In the meantime, she was accepted into another school. Despite not finalizing enrollment or giving consent, we were still charged. The owner had assured us that no charges would be made without our approval, yet he went ahead anyway. He later emailed claiming he would issue a refund by check, but that never happened. He continues to claim we gave consent and that the refund was processed--neither of which is true. We never agreed to anything, never signed paperwork, and never received our money back. This place is only interested in taking your money and will say anything to justify it. Avoid at all costs!

They continue to help my child grow and learn on a daily basis and the children have so much fun. There are so many activities they do and also some surprises such as a petting zoo that my son loves. He is 3 years old and theres timea he does not want to leave and is excited to wake up knowing hes going to school. They assisted him with his speech he did not speak much however everyday the teachers are spending time and showing him how to pronounce specific letters and in a few months he was saying words and expressing feelings he had never done before. My child has grown so much and it's all due to the Abby and her staff that spend so much time to build our little ones to be where they need to in there next phases of life. I am extremely greateful for finding this daycare and i recommend them to anyone. As a mother seeing how far my child has come in such a short time and how happy being there makes him 5 stars is not enough for this rating. I thank you all at the children's workshop for your hard work and dedication to all these children and im positive im not the only parent who feels this way. Thank you Debra Almeida
