The house is old, the floor is slightly slanted, but you can not find better teachers to have for your preschoolers. I have looked high and low trying to find a similar close knitted school experience for my daughter at the end of her 2nd year there (because we were moving out of the area). I really couldn't and we truly were contemplating with the option of having my nanny to drive my kid 45 min each way just so she can complete her year there. Luckily we didn't have to do that since the closing of our new house fell after the graduation. There was a child in my daughter class who cried every morning for the better part of the first year. And one of the teachers would hold her and rub her back every morning until she is ready to join the other children. The teachers are just so warm and caring. I wish I were the one who is attending the school! I like the fact that the school is rather old fashion and has very define routine and schedule the kids follow every day. It's definitely one of the few preschool still takes the kids out for field trips each year. Since it's a teacher parent co-op school, there are lots of opportunity to volunteer in school. In fact, the snacks are provided each day by different parent. I really appreciate the chance to be in the classroom with my child and able to observe how she learns/behaves in a school setting. I like the fact that it's a nonprofit school (as all school should be!). You can tell that the teachers want to be there; want to provide the best education to your kids. It's not those for profit childcare places that you can almost hear the "ka-ching" in the background and the school fines you even if you are 2 min late picking up your kid at the end of the day. Despite us moving out of the area, we do plan to go back and visit often! My daughter really misses the teacher and "her kids". Little Red will always be that special school in our hearts.

At the beginning of the summer my son suffered a fall down a flight of 15 stairs at a different daycare. We immediately pulled him out and were stuck figuring out how we would get through the summer as two working parents. I called daycare after daycare and left messages with everyone but most places were on a waitlist and couldn't accommodate him. Cadence called us back quickly and recognized the difficult spot we were in and were able to provide a part-time spot . They provided such a warm, caring and safe environment. It was clear from the moment we toured, that the teachers had a tremendous amount of love for the kids in their care. Had we not committed to another school for the year - we would have been 100% comfortable keeping him at Cadence. At drop-off and pickup it felt like we had been a member of their community for longer than just a few weeks. He always came home excited and looked forward to arriving. He started his new school yesterday and his teachers said he had an amazing day. He listened, was polite and shared with others. He even shared stories about his friends and teachers from Cadence with the new staff. Their team was an essential part of helping him and setting him up for success. Their family membership is an excellent value when you take into consideration the complementary child care. Their pool and locker facilities were recently renovated and are very nice. The YMCA offers a wide variety of classes, and although the selection might not be as robust as other facilities, I have enjoyed them. The cardio/weights room, where I spend a lot of time has been updated with brand new equipment and is well managed - there are typically available cardio machines in the busy morning hours. This Y is also located next to the East Bay Bike Path - so one can easily bike here, and go out running during or after a visit. Bottom line a good value, a good facility for the area.

One of the lifeguards constantly crossed personal boundaries and eventually called me an alcoholic because I did not accept his unsolicited medical advice. The aquatics director and CEO made me stand in his office despite me telling the CEO that I cannot stand or sit for an extended period due to chronic pain and my disability, and while making me stand and listen to him repeat everything he said over email, they both basically took the side of the lifeguard, suggesting without asking the offensive party that the lifeguard was "joking" and I was more or less holding a grudge. They even suggested that the Bayside pool wasn't the right pool for me because I was offended by being called an alcoholic by this lifeguard. They never asked the lifeguard to apologize to me after I requested an apology. I do not feel respected at this YMCA branch. Another issue is the staff don't tell you that there's an additional annual fee on top of the regular monthly fee and joiner's fee until after you've joined. I reached out to the same CEO and membership director about this issue, and have been met with silence for over a month. But when they didn't like that I complained about a lifeguard slandering me and his continued foul mannerisms towards me, the CEO wouldn't leave me alone constantly emailing me and demanding I go into his office when I asked for a phone call to accommodate my disability to address the issue.

We loved it and would recommend it highly! Mr. Carl, the owner, Ms. Tracey, the director, and Miss Hilary and Miss Kelly, the teachers for the Sprouts class were all FABULOUS. They were kind, accommodating, welcoming and patient. We felt so lucky to have found this warm and stable environment in which our daughter could play and learn as we navigated a strange, interim period. In addition to the incredible staff, here are a few more things we really appreciated: - Waldorf education philosophy - no technology - lots of outdoor time, regardless of the weather (kids would wear Muddy Buddies) - wooden toys only - baking bread on Thursdays! - healthy breakfast and lunch served every day - COVID-19 protocols were impeccable - teachers would email daily summaries with photos - super speedy response time to phone calls and emails - option to send your kids 2, 3, or 5 days a week - classrooms for kids of different ages. We weren't able to take advantage of this, because our son's immunizations were out of date (oops) but a great option for families with multiple kids I wish we could transport Apple Blossom back to California with us!

In the meantime, she was accepted into another school. Despite not finalizing enrollment or giving consent, we were still charged. The owner had assured us that no charges would be made without our approval, yet he went ahead anyway. He later emailed claiming he would issue a refund by check, but that never happened. He continues to claim we gave consent and that the refund was processed--neither of which is true. We never agreed to anything, never signed paperwork, and never received our money back. This place is only interested in taking your money and will say anything to justify it. Avoid at all costs!
