It's usually fun to try new places. This is a place that I never would've gone to unless somebody personally recommended it to me. I guess I'm getting a little snobby. When I saw 2 1/2 stars, I was more than a little turned off, but I was feeling adventurous today. I'm glad I tried this place because it's nicer than I expected. It's several steps up from being a dive bar. After a few minutes standing at the front, I decided to ignore the "please wait to be seated" sign since it was apparent that there was no host this coming... The fish was very good and all-you-can-eat for $14.99 is a terrific price these days. It would be nice if the fried fresh was a little crispier, but it was tasty. The tartar sauce was a little sweet, but good. My only complaint with this place is that they have an outdoor covered patio where the smokers congregate. The door is open frequently and there's a blast of smoke entering the restaurant. If that's not an issue, give this place a try! read more

Got there and there was basically no one in there, sat outside and the waitress did ok at first. The menu was very small and definitely not at all what was shown online! Waited over 45 min for a French dip and a salad, once she saw my husband come in wondering where our food was all of a sudden she was ready to come out with my salad but still no French dip. He says against health code to bring in...food or drinks. But not cake? Not pizza? If it is a health code violation? His words! Maybe it is just his friends!!! I wanted to use a sealed mixer, I know there are laws and health codes, and even bar rules. But it goes to everyone! No, just friends! Owner of this bar if you'd want to reach out tag me. Pretty big steakhouse atmosphere with live music. Some country music and 60s and 70s music. Some people had fun dancing front of the stage. Pretty loud live music and not recommended for intimate dates. We got ribs, porkchop, chicken fried steak, and French dip. Side salad, onion rings, and Porkchop was good. Rib and chicken fried steak was ok. Side veggies had pretty strong garlic flavor. French dip came with very soggy buns and very dry chewy meat (do not recommend). Our grandson was craving chicken so we decided to eat at this restaurant. He ordered a huge fried chicken sandwich - and said it was really good! The rest of us ordered all different things, French dip, patty melt and a large hamburger Wagyu meat. All of the meals were delicious. Amber, our server was helpful and very, very friendly. My mom's neighbor is 90 and isn't allowed to drive. I tell him they should have taken it away many years prior. Hee hee I took him to The Chicken Ranch per his request. It is a cute little hidden place off of Grand Ave in a location that never seemed to do good with other businesses in the past. He said they had been here a while so I thought that was pretty cool. Walking up they have signs showing they offer a happy hour. They also have posted there is a 3% service charge if you use a credit card so if you plan on visiting bring cash if that concerns you. Walking in there was a sign to seat yourself. There was karaoke going on. People were really good! I never seen karaoke being done live before. Most everyone there were retirement age.. Very busy. Service was really good. I had a salad with my own dressing. No meat. My buddy had a Philly cheese steak sandwich with some fries. He has had the melts, pork chops, fried chicken, and a few other items he has enjoyed in the past. If I could have anything I would get a fried boneless chicken basket with onion rings! Mmmm They have big selection of breakfast and brunch items. Later in thr day they also offer fried chicken and fish baskets, melts, beef sandwiches and brisket, meatloaf. They offer wine by the glass, beer on tap and by bottle. For him it would be a 4 star to me its 3 stars not being bad at all. So 3.5. went to chicken ranch for karaoke on Monday night, karaoke host is great order two margaritas they came. They did not have any alcohol taste to them so they came out with two shots of tequila and we put them into the drinks. at the end of the night when we get our bill they've charged us roughly $16 for two drinks, which was no problem. And nine dollars plus for the two shots which meant that our two drinks came to $27. We had another drink that was ordered and it was with the extra shot, it was 9.00 something so we question why the other drinks couldn't be adjusted? pretty much got a cold shoulder saying that's what it is, that was from the bartender, if this is the kind of service that they think they want to try and delve out custOmer's I can see why that place is empty and lifeless. Good chance we won't come back..... possibly if they reach out with an apology, but I don't think that'll happen. Shame good foundation poor employee. Attitude and management. read more

I saw all the bad Yelp reviews ( yikes). & we still went. We tried to get a reservation online.. but everything was always booked? We came mainly because our young son was going to debut his guitar skills for his "summer band". I called weeks ago and tried to reserve but was told again everything was booked so it was "first come first serve by a kind man". We showed up & you can tell they were under staffed. The hostess was cleaning tables so it took a good while but she sat us close to the stage. Tables are sticky. We ordered the chicken plate & that came out bloody...The hamburger was way overcooked, the Cuban sandwich as my son tells me (who eats everything)... "there's just something wrong with it" he stated it tastes old. The veggie's on the chicken plate was mushy and soupy like it's been sitting in water all day. I ask for a Bloody Mary it was ok (5 out of 10) but it definitely had alcohol in it (ty) . I thought it was only fair to order another drink so the waitress could make a good tip but that drink took 30 mins to come to me & I declined it because I needed to drive home. The atmosphere is " lively". Definitely more of a bar crowd. I would not go here for the food. I could swear I saw my waitress cooking in the kitchen... maybe that's why my drink came so late. No water was offered. Waitress was carrying several table drinks on a single platter and sat the platter on a customers table and left? ( there were about 9-12 drinks for other tables on that platter) She ran back to the kitchen to go get something... so I'm looking at my drink sit on another customers table ( um no.. I don't want that now) ... While I was listening to the bands play my food came and was shoved towards me ( no excuse me or pardon me...plate coming HOT! )... I could hear staff chatting about being overworked and they "better be tipped out well tonight" because they were all doing other jobs ( bussing & cleaning etc.) it was a HOT MESS! . I'm not exactly sure how this place maintains.. but hey diff strokes etc. The ambiance is that of a dive bar. The kids had a decent "first band experience " So a definite thank you for that. Um... I'm still in disbelief of what I experienced... The bar was crowded so absolutely... they have regulars... I'm still not sure why this generation screams and yells when singers and music is so bad... I don't get it. If it's bad say it's bad so they can learn... not everyone can sing... or play ( because they don't practice)... karaoke is one thing ... you applaud because it takes guts to get up there... This was our first visit to the Chicken Ranch. Safety issues: The parking lot is dark and not well kept. The waiter brought us to a booth and a large piece of the booth facia was falling off. He tapped the facia piece of the booth back onto the front of the booth. However it fell again while we were getting up. Luckily my wife didn't trip. Food: The menu showed the special was the ribeye for $15.99. We ordered the ribeye and chef salad. The ribeye flavor was good but very fatty. The chef salad was very basic and small for the price. Overall cost: Overpriced The ribeye Thursday special on the menu read $15.99. We were charged $19.75 per ribeye dinner. Overcharged $3.76 per dinner (x2). The waiter gave a $3 credit on the final bill. When I brought it to his attention that he missed the credit for the second ribeye he said he would refund us $3 from his pocket. I was not going to have the waiter refund us from his pocket! Lesson learned. Sorry, I do not recommend this restaurant! One star is for the flavor of the ribeye. read more

A new place for us because our favorite karaoke hosts are here, Rick & Michelle. I had the meatloaf and while it's a little different than what I'm used to it is very good. The gravy is homemade with great flavor. My better half had the ribs and she said they were very very good. The mashed potatoes are good and we had the chicken and rice soup as well, which is good. Au ju for french dip was extra salty, asked for replacement and was told it's all the same, our SIL ordered hash browns and they didn't have any. No owner or manager available to speak to. The second time, we were told that the cook called in so they couldn't do food but the bar was open. At 10 am? I don't think so. Oh man. This place definitely wins points for the live music almost every evening, the numerous daily specials, and the big dance floor but it definitely isn't winning any for the food! The meatloaf sandwich was like dog food on a bun. The rib eye was paper thin and the macaroni salad was straight out of a grocery store plastic tub. The homemade mashed potatoes with the country gravy were awesome, though! We loved our bartender and the vibe of the place. It's huge, with booths and tables for families and also a big bar area. It's a great place to chill, listen to the music, shake your booty on the dance floor and have a drink. You won't find many dance floors in Surprise! When my party of 6 to the restaurant things started out well. Everyone got their drinks with refill pitchers provided as well as an appetizer. Last two of our party arrived and things went downhill. We couldn't find our waitress to order our food, get refills, get our checks. Plus the fact that one of our dinners didn't come out until everyone else was almost finished eating. As far as the food: Chicken fried steak was tasty but the piece was as thin as cardboard and small as a sm grapefruit. Ribeye was served well done when ordered medium. Chicken strips were over cooked. Ribs were good. They had a good showing of Eagle fans and the guy singing, Harley Davidson, was good but a little loud. I think the biggest turn off was the service. I always enjoy the chicken ranch and this was no exception. We went on a night when reservations were required. There was a cover charge, which we knew about and we found out upon arriving that there was a set menu. Every item was 18.99. I like the chicken ranch regular menu, and this was very different. It seemed to be trying to go very upscale. I ordered beef tips that came with mashed potatoes. The beef tips were served I believe in the Flanken manner where you get a lot of bone and very little meat They were cold. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and cold, and the carrots were hard. I don't know anyone else at the table who had a enjoyable time with their meal , everything was cold with the exception of the pork chop. That being said, the service was amazing. Our waitress was absolutely on point and as sweet as can be. The entertainment was great well worth the admission price. In my opinion, they should've combined the 18.99 menu cost with the six dollar entry fee and just served us the regular menu. The atmosphere was fun. Nice clean location. Came in early afternoon to give it a try. Bar area is nice and the bartender is friendly. Ordered a cubano sandwich with house salad side. The sandwich was pretty good but a little small for my expectations. However, this is the first time I've had a "cubano" with bacon. And also a first time for a cubano on an "Italian roll". Like I said. It was pretty good. Just a little different. The house salad looked really good but there was some lettuce that was a little wilted and the ranch dressing was fairly bland. First impression is pretty good. A little loud for a mid weekday afternoon. And a little pricy for the portion sizes served. I'll be back. The waitress said it was because the cook that was meant to show up at 2:00 did not show up and the cook who had to stay late to cover for the absent cook was having a temper tantrum. Of course, that doesn't account for the fact that the server, while nice, did not come to check on us, offer drink refills, or that when she finally delivered my plate she placed it at the empty space beside me instead of in front of me.
