While visiting Columbus market recently my plans to get a Cornish hen was thwarted by a long line. I escaped into the much less crowded main part of building to see what else could be found. The chicken coop is an unassuming little spot that has a bigger sit down spot right across from it. The fried chicken looked and smelled great and there were customers lining up to get some. I went on to see what other foods were available in the rest of the market, but returned here. I ordered 2 wings, 2 breasts and the Mac n cheese. At home I started with a wing, these were huge and perfectly cooked. Juicy meat with crunchy batter. The breasts were almost as good, and also huge. I realized I probably ordered more than I could eat. The Mac was southern style, maybe slightly over baked but good nonetheless. Customer service was quick and friendly, and the meal itself was a bargain in my book. On subsequent visits I'll stick to the wings and more Mac n cheese. But I also need to correct an error of mine. What an amazing find! They are located inside Amish market/flea market. This place is pretty bumping with customers frying up some delicious fried chicken and all the tasty sides so you basically just grab a ticket. They call your number and then you place your order for whatever chicken and sides you want. The prices are fairly decent and you get a good amount of food or whatever you're ordering the staff was friendly and suggestive. We heard about this place through a friend that lives nearby and I'm glad we had the opportunity to give them a try. I ordered about $100 worth of food to bring it back home For the family to try. I definitely recommend it if you're down in the area . it's definitely a nice walk inside to see all the vendors. You can find plenty of tasty treats to purchase . Located inside the Columbus Market right outside the Amish market. Which I did not buy anything from the Amish market. But they are killing it in that market. You name it and they working it. Finally got here. According to Google, this place sells some of the best fried chicken in NJ. So getting take-out to see for me. JoJos (potatoes) and sweet potatoes. Planned to eat it at home. But it was hot and fresh and I took a walk break to try this chicken. First, the JoJos was mad good. I mean so freaking good. Big potatoes and flavor. The yams I almost ate all of the after-tasting a fork full. And the chicken was juicy on the inside, with golden crisp skin but not greasy, and had good flavor. Came here on a Friday afternoon and there's already a line forming at this restaurant. Everything looked great from the fried gizzard, to the various pieces of fried chicken. You can pick from thighs, breasts, or wings. We opted for the wings, jojos, and mac and cheese. Everything was very tasty, although the chicken pieces and the jojos wasn't as crunchy as I hoped. Honestly I don't understand the hype. Got a platter and the chicken was room temperature at best, the Mac and cheese was cold and so congealed it looked like it was mixed with cottage cheese and had no flavor at all. It was more like buttered noodles instead of Mac and cheese. It's not like it was sitting out either as I sat right down immediately to eat it. The best thing about the platter was the biscuit. It's plenty busy, so be prepared to get your name yelled out loud and get called everything from my dear, sweetie, hon, honey, you, and hey you. I thought it was adorable. I ordered the platter with a chicken breast and 2 sides, cole slaw and mac and cheese. Both sides were really, really good. I could've and should've just eaten those two. The star of the platter should've been the fried chicken. And as fried chicken, it was pretty dang good. I have been going there on a regular basis then they started ignoring me and giving me attitude, very typical from previous experiences with the owner and her daughter. I don't feel they handle the food properly to prevent bacteria that is probably why I got sick eating the sandwich. read more

The chicken coop, I've known you for a very long time. My mom used to have a little scrub shop waaay before the renovation with the food court. You guys always have the best fried chicken, gizzards, kielbasa, and of course the jojos potatoes. I always spend quite a bit of money here because I'm not here every week. So to compensate for that, I usually get a 1-2 lbs of jojos, several pieces of fried chicken, probably a pound of gizzards, and sometimes a good hunk of the kielbasa. When my fiance (the vegetarian) wants some jojos and a side. I opt to go for the "family meal" which is a good amount of pieces of chicken, 1 and a half lbs of jojos, and a large side. The GPS was bugging out because we were driving around in circles in the parking lot looking for the Coop. We eventually wandered into the Amish grocer and, oh my god, I could have died and gone straight to heaven. I'm saving that for another review! We finally make our way to the Chicken Coop (it's inside the mall that we didn't even know existed). So many things to choose from. I ask what's good and the women at the front respond with, "Literally, everything." Well, that's called being confident about what you're serving. I order some jumbo wings and a gravy bowl.
