Delicious corn nuggets
Kathy J.

This has changed names to the Chicken Coop . It's a small place with very nice people working there. You can smell that wonderful home cooking before you open the door. The folks who work there were very friendly & helpful. I had called my order in and it was ready when I got there. We talked about them cooking fried chicken livers ( I'm even more excited now) so that's something to look forward to on my next visit soon. Now let's get down to the important stuff. I ordered an 8 piece fried chicken, 2 orders of corn nuggets and an order of fried okra. On the 10 mile drive home I could smell the goodness. I wasn't disappointed at all. However in our home my husband is the fried chicken connoisseur. He was happy for the surprise. We both really liked the flavor and moistness of the chicken. It has a little bit of spice that gives it a bit of a kick. The pieces are large with plenty of meat. The okra & corn nuggets were crispy and perfectly cooked too. Did I forget to say how sweet these corn nuggets were... they are scrumptious and plenty in an order. We both scarfed them up. I will definitely go back for more. SOON! I highly recommend stopping here for some good food.

Arthur's fried chicken. Some of the best I've ever had!

When you get caught between the moon and New York City the best that you can do is fall in love with some of Arthur's fried chicken. This is just a little store in front of a trailer park, but dad gum! That's some good chicken! Seasoned spicy too! There are a few tables inside and a few beer and drink coolers. They also make sandwiches, but do yourself a favor and eat some chicken! Better than Gus's! The burgers are excellent.

If you think small-town restaurants can't surprise you, this place will prove you wrong…read more A friend and I chose it because it's exactly halfway between us for weekend meetups. In a small town, I usually expect decent food at best--something reheated off a Sysco truck. Instead, this place completely surprised us. The food was outstanding. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We were told the food is prepared fresh daily and the menu can change, which explains a lot. Portions are huge--we actually ended up sharing plates just so we could try more items. Service was excellent: friendly, attentive, and helpful without hovering. The staff was happy to talk about what they've tried on the menu and what they recommend. There's limited outdoor seating, but if the weather cooperates I definitely recommend grabbing a table outside. From what we saw, the inside looked very clean and well kept. This has officially become our new weekend meetup spot. We're already going back this Saturday, and I plan to keep trying something new until I've worked my way through the whole menu. One last thing that meant a lot to me: they allowed me to bring in my sugar-free root beer. Since that's the only beverage I drink, that little bit of flexibility made the experience even better. Highly recommend.

Yet somehow, I'm also enjoying an elegant dinner that I didn't have to cook myself. The drinks are reasonably priced, and so is the food -- especially considering each dish is truly a work of art. You can absolutely tell this restaurant loves what they do, and they do it beautifully every single time I've been here. It may not be for everyone, particularly if you're used to heavily processed fast food at "fast food" prices -- which, honestly, aren't much cheaper these days. The difference here is that the meals are thoughtfully prepared, healthier, more filling, and far more delicious. If you appreciate quality, creativity, and care in your dining experience, this place delivers every time.

I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!
