Check out The Cheese Cave, it is just unbelievable. I have visited several cheese shops in…read moreWisconsin but this is by far the best. Over 300 varieties of cheese, surrounding you on shelves from floor to ceiling, that's The Cheese Cave. A cheese lover's dream! Unlike the touristy cheese shops, this place has very reasonable prices. And the cheese varieties on sale cans beyond reasonable, and grouped together on a long table in the middle of the cave. Also unlike the touristy cheese shops, the employees here are friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. You can learn a lot about cheese on your visit here. I like spicy cheeses, and I found varieties of cheese with hatch peppers, sriracha, chipotle, jalapeño, and ghost pepper. I ended up purchasing four different cheeses but I found dozens that I would like to try. If I lived anywhere near this place I would be stopping by every week to buy a few new varieties. A very enjoyable experience!

Down a slight ramp and through a glass door there is about a 15x10 room filled with Gouda goodness. Cons about this place is there isn't a private parking lot. However, there is ample 10 minute public parking which is more than enough to get in, get cheese, and get going. Each cheese was clearly labeled and priced. Every employee was friendly and helpful. Sale priced items were put on a chalkboard outside the cheese room. Everyone in my group enjoyed looking at the selection, from curds to hard cheeses. Right off the front entrance there was a room that appeared to have samples but I didn't try any. Obviously they had more than cheese including wine and cheese themed knickknacks. Open until 6 on Saturday's to get your cheese fix. Make sure you stop by because who doesn't need more cheese in their life. TL/DR: Read the first letter of every sentence for a key take away message.

After over 45 years of driving by this place, I decided to stop in. I learned the owner will be…read moreretiring soon and had to stop in. And boy, I am glad I did. Their cheese case has all the regulars but their sandwich board really shines. Not often do you find a braunschweiger sandwich but here you do. I loved it. Reminds me of eating these with my grandfather so many years ago. Old school. No frills. Great price point. Don't forget to try their potato salad-seriously addicting.

I was heading down Hwy P yesterday and saw they were open, so I pulled over quick and stopped in. In addition to some Cajun cheese curds, sliced cheese, and frozen brats, I ordered a build your own sandwich consisting of a hard roll, turkey, roast beef, muenster cheese, lettuce, and butter. The sandwich was very good. I appreciate that you can build your own in addition to the 12 predefined sandwiches they sell. Muenster is my favorite cheese and butter is far less common to find as a condiment than mayo is at sub/sandwich shops, so I was glad to see both of those were options. I feel like I got a fair amount of turkey and roast beef too. The Sweet Summertime (butter, summer sausage, Colby, and lettuce on wheat bread) sounds awesome, so I'll try that next time. The store isn't super huge, but they manage to have a large selection of cheese to choose from as well as some dry goods and a refrigerator with cheese curds, string cheese, and summer sausage. They do have some sliced meat for sale, but most of the main display case is cheese. A single standing freezer contains a nice selection of locally made brats. Prices are a little higher than what you might find at a big chain grocery store, but the quality is just as good if not better.

This place is somewhat "hidden" a block off the main drag through downtown Cedarburg (Washington…read moreSt.). They have a very large selection of cheeses from Wisconsin, the US, and abroad, with lots of unique offerings. We tried a chicken soup Monterrey jack and a mustard Gouda, both of which we really enjoyed. The chicken soup cheese actually tastes like chicken broth from a rich soup, which was definitely a new experience. The room is decorated and bright, and felt like a great spot to stop on a Saturday afternoon. It's a nice change of pace from the usually-crowded bars through downtown Cedarburg. You should be aware that the tasting room apparently can't serve charcuterie boards themselves because of the class of license (maybe no food service cert.) but they're happy to help you enjoy any of the cheeses you purchased in the store and offer you some wine(s) to accompany them. The bartender graciously offered us some crackers to go with the plate and we were able to put together a satisfying little wine tasting experience! The one thing I would like to see is a few more wines on offer for the wine flights; at the time, they were a bit heavy on sweet white wines, which is just not my taste but may be popular in the area. They also have a cocktail list, beers, and their own brand of several liquors, so there are plenty of options. We will be back for a nice afternoon glass of wine and some cheese. It's also a good source of reasonably priced cheeses and wine if you want to have a picnic at the parks nearby.
