The Parlour has great coffee and service

It was a delight to stay at the Charmant for two nights while staffing a US Veteran non-profit fundraiser. The hotel is an authentically restored historic building that used to be the fifth largest Candy factory in the country. Charmant is "charming" in French and the namesake of one their famous chocolate candies. I noticed a very attentive and gracious staff at the front desk, the servers on the rooftop terrace & the Parlour, and especially the Valets. The second night the Valet/chauffeur Derek really went above and beyond recovering a lost item, and after a long day two colleagues and I sat at the Lobby Bar and Lounge for dinner and met the nicest gentlemen who happened to be a Vietnam Veteran. I recognized him during our conversation as Don Weber, a business executive and philanthropist who helped develop La Crosse Wisconsin to the gem it is today. His story is too unique to summarize, you can watch it online https://youtu.be/5t7qCrm1e3I. We have common friends and Don (who owns the Hotel Charmant and the nearby Waterfront Restaurant) treated us to dinner and drinks, probably the best I've had in a hotel lobby. The Charmant Old Fashioned was outstanding, and they even made my favorite drink from scratch, Caipirinha, Brazil's national cocktail. This is a wonderful hotel, and the best hospitality I've experienced in a long while! I can't wait to stay here next year!

I ate here four times over three days recently and I don't remember each dish I had because the great experiences sort of melted together because it was so satisfying. The Charmant is one of those places in which you just want to ensconce yourself for a week before even venturing outside.

The Parlour at the Charmant Hotel - a MUST visit. Get ready for your day at this sweet little coffee shop or unwind by the fire at the end of the day. Choose from an assortment of treats to go with your fresh coffee or tea. Clean, and welcoming. I almost hate sharing this secret with everyone!

    Dog-friendly at the bar.

It's the cutest little boutique hotel. I LOVED it, and special thanks to my dear Janet for making it happen as I decided very last minute to visit them. And this unique, beautiful hotel was booked, but she made it happen. Everyone working here is so AMAZING. Thank you for making my trip so memorable. They're just genuinely friendly and super sweet. If you need a getaway somewhere far away and not feel lonely, you should come here. They have the cutest coffee shop, restaurant, and bar. Pretty much everything. I almost considered moving. I was in Wonderland, exactly what I needed, away from everything.

Very nice boutique hotel with an industrialized French and modern vibe. We stayed during winter months and in a room not facing the river. Our room was small but well done. They have free valet parking and you use a text messaging system to call for your car. Once in a while there won't be someone at the valet stand or front desk to give your keys, but eventually someone shows up. Safety measures were appropriate and honored. We enjoyed drinks at the bar and had brunch in their restaurant. Both great experiences. Food and service are excellent. They continue to have happy hour during the weekdays. They give guests free coffee every morning in their parlor. For a unique and classy experience, definitely stay here. I hope to return during the summer months to enjoy their roof deck bar.

WOW...just Wow!! I don't want to oversell because I know that it can set people up for disappointment, but I was just blown away by this hotel! First of all, it is in one of the best locations in La Crosse. So close to terrific restaurants, a fantastic distillery/restaurant (see my review of the La Crosse Distilling Co which is essentially located behind the hotel), and sits in the couple of blocks between the waterfront and downtown. We walked everywhere pretty much (should have brought better shoes) and that was fantastic. Secondly, the hotel itself is in an amazing old building and from the moment you walk on the brick walkway and into the hotel it is an "experience". From the decor, to the multiple areas in the lobby/bar and restaurant to enjoy a beverage, some conversation, a special event it is beautiful and warm, retro and modern all at the same time. As a heads up there were a LOT of parties/events being celebrated over our weekend there so plan ahead and make sure things like the Rooftop bar or Parlour are even open for your visit if those are important to you. We were really looking forward to the rooftop bar, but it didn't open until 3pm due to an event, and then a storm moved in and they were closed. We were highly disappointed by that as we'd talked about celebrating our husband's birthday with our daughter (who lives in La Crosse) up there, but definitely another time. The rooms are very spacious (we had a double queen room on the 4th floor), extremely well appointed with wonderful decorative touches throughout, and the beds were like heaven!! Noise-wise the room is solid, but it's pretty easy to hear people in the hallway. That wasn't a problem but we had some kids in the rooms across the hall and I noticed that. The only recommendations are around a lack of fan in the bathrooms (sound just bounces around with all the hard surfaces and I'm always a big proponent of bathrooms fans in hotels) and there is no holder for the hand towel and requires it to sit on the countertop. That isn't ideal. They could use better hardware for towels in the bathroom especially when you have 2-3 people in a room. Otherwise you'll just keep using new towels instead of reusing, or towels might get thrown on your furniture in the main room to dry...not what they would want I'm pretty sure ;). Other than those small recommendations it is stellar! From the chocolates when you check in, the atmosphere and comfort of the public areas and rooms, the options for food and drink, and the location of the hotel, I would not only recommend this hotel, but I will be back many times I would imagine :)

We had a nice stay here. The building is beautiful and there are lots of nice details (like getting a peice of chocolate upon check-in). We loved the parlor coffee shop on the first floor- so cozy! You get 2 free coffee tokens in your room that you bring down to the parlor to use (no coffee pot is in your room). What we enjoyed most was that you could take cruiser bikes out for free. We rode miles on a bike path that took us through the marsh lands and over bridges. We clearly don't get on bikes very often, because we just had a blast! Overall, the stay was lovely and worth the money.

No frills, rooftop bar. Good drinks, ordered a Mule and it tastes like mint though I couldn't taste the Vodka. Didn't recognize the label.

What we though would be a few days trip ended up being a month-long roller coaster ride and through it all, the Grand Stay was incredibly accommodating. My brother, sister and I stayed in a 2-bedroom suite, which is spacious, comfortable and well-appointed and the kitchen was most helpful. Taylor & cleaning crew swapped out towels and took out trash when needed, Tracy, Tiffany & Monica handled last minute revision updates without hesitation, and Anthony kept us laughing at breakfast. When running into Justin (maintenance), he was always sure to ask if everything is ok. The 3 of us would begin our day very early in the morning in the back of the breakfast area getting work done on our computers, then upon return, very late into the night, in our unofficial office and Gina always made sure we had fresh hot water for our tea. The hotel is located on the beautiful Mississippi River and is within walking distance of the historic downtown area. Our room was clean, the breakfast hot and the lobby/community areas relaxing. Oh - and thank goodness for on-site guest laundry! The crew at the Grand Stay all worked together to make a difficult time as easy on us as they possibly could, and I will even go as far as to say we made friends during our month together. Sincerely, the "414 Team"

I called and didn't leave a message and they called right back to see if I needed help. I told them I would have two dogs which they appreciated me alerting them to. The only floor that is not was the 4th which was fine. The biggest bonus was that there was no extra pet fee which I thought was great! Place is newer and the rooms still smell new. They are very clean, well maintained and don't have the typical creepy bedspreads. For allowing pets, the rooms don't smell like pets. Dogs can be everywhere except the pool area and the breakfast area which makes sense. The girl checking us in was so helpful, friendly and genuinely outgoing. Very nice, brought us additional towels and was just a gem to talk to and make some recommendations. Pool is on the smaller side, but just fine for our child to jump in and splash. Heavily chlorinated, but clean. Very small towels. Some smaller tables in the area and chairs. Breakfast is grab and go and decent for what it is. Juice, to go oj, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, muffins. Better than your typical grab and go. Very nice hotel. Excellent rooms and exceptional staff. Would definitely stay again. Very close to Grandads bluff.
