I decided to check out the Bronte neighbourhood so before heading over to the beach, I was looking for a place to grab takeout. The Char Rotisserie looked perfect although this street is filled with options (Three Blue Ducks, Huxton's and Iggy's Bread). They also have a second location in nearby Bondi Beach.
I dropped in on a late Monday afternoon (around 1:45pm). There were a couple others ordering but for the most part, it was pretty dead. Staff is friendly although food takes a bit longer to come out.
There's several menu options including combos, salads & greens, special stuff, char meats, char rolls, char bang on burgers, chicken, char 'n' chips and char cook up. There's lots of vegetable and healthy options but I was here to try their chicken!
- 1/2 chicken & chips ($12.90 AUD) - you get your choice of chicken (rotisserie or Portuguese), sauce (Greek, Thai, peri peri or garlic) and spice for your chips (chicken salt or regular salt). I went with the peri peri Portuguese chicken with chicken salt chips. Chips were addictively good and perfectly crispy. Chicken was hit and miss. Half the meat was too dry but the drumstick and wing were moist and flavourful. You could easily share this meal for two.
Decent but I still like my Portuguese chicken from Montreal more. It's a cheap, filling spot though. 3.5 stars. read more
