I realize I last reviewed TCR in 2017, but my love for the salon still remains the same. While Dani nor Daniella are no longer there, Karla is STILL my go to girl and for good reason! I'd rather let my hair color grow out than let another salon touch my color. Karla is so talented and so great at her job, it is such a joy to come see her and the salon, in general. It's such a bonus day if I get Courtney to wash my hair and for Pope to cut and blow dry. All of the stylists I see here are so great and I recommend them to anyone in the Miami area who is looking for a high quality hair. The salon is clearly a home to so many regulars because it's not uncommon to see other clients catching up with their stylists as if they are all lifelong friends. This is a nice, relaxed environment that makes the hair care experience even better. Go visit, you won't be disappointed! read more

Let me preface my review by stating that I have not had my hair professionally cut since 2011. As an EXTREME introvert, sitting in a chair getting service is a horrifying prospect! In addition, I have truly awful hair. It's about three different textures and it never looks good. I got tired of getting my hopes up that I could find someone that could make my hair look presentable, so I cut my hair myself. Saves time, money and stress. The Mr. has been on me to get my locks professionally tended to, so since we were going to be around Aventura today, I made an appointment here. Kudos to the Changing Room; the vibe is very laid back. While waiting for my appointment, I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I checked in with Leah, who asked what I was interested in. I told her I hadn't had my hair professionally cut in over a decade so I wasn't sure. She started asking if I wanted certain things (can't remember specifically as this isn't my wheelhouse, something like a U turn or face framing?) and I told her I didn't know what that meant, so she said, "OK, a trim then". I would have been open to doing something a little different with my hair if she had explained what she was talking about. The hair washing was great! Loved the scalp massage! Leah then got to work on the cut; we agreed on the amount to take off and she snipped away. I didn't have styling included; for one, I wanted to get out of there ASAP and secondly, I have curly hair and you can't really "style" curly hair; it does its own thing. I watched what Leah was doing and she cut my hair exactly the way I cut it! On the positive side, it reinforced that I am doing a professional job and cutting it correctly when I cut it myself. However, if a professional is just going to do what I do, why bother spending time and money at a salon? Will I return here? Maybe. My hair looks exactly the same as it normally does, just a little shorter. If I can muster up the interest and do some research on hair styles, it might be worth it to come back for a professional cut. Otherwise, I will probably just keep on cutting it myself. read more

The salon is in a shopping center with ample parking. Very clean. All super upbeat women working there. Bridgette gave me a fantastic haircut and gave me bangs!!! Bangs can be risky. Words alone cannot express how much I appreciate the superior service from the staff at The Changing Room. I experienced a little snafu at my last salon that couldn't help me in time for my vacation. Panic stricken, I called hoping they could service me as I have very long hair and needed highlights. Naya the manager was simply amazing she recommended me to a hairstylist as well as provided a breakdown on what the price will be and am now a loyal member for life. I have really long luscious locks but I always donate every 3 years and I finally decided to get it cut and wanted to pick the best place that would give a great short cut and I was very happy to meet Jennifer. I've been coming to this salon for decades. Stephanie has been my hair master & friend since 2011. She is the best hairdresser I've ever had. The Changing Room was opened in July 1981 with three employees. Throughout the years we have moved to new locations due to our ever expanding growth. I usually never write reviews, but I felt I needed to. I came down to South Florida to visit family and before I left home (New York) I wanted to get my hair done and my usual place, but unfortunately things got complicated, so I decided to google a salon in the aventura area once I got there. I read wonderful reviews about The Changing Room, and even know I felt hesitant to go, since I am use to my hair stylist, I decided why not. Lily was the lady who took care of me, and let me tell you, she blew me away. She did my color and made my blonde highlights pop. She added beautiful layers to my hair, and did a killer blowdry. She made me feel ten years younger, and someone at my age, that means a lot. Not only was she amazing with my hair, she was amazing TO me. I was having a horrible day, and to have someone genuinely ask about your day and make you feel welcomed without trying to dig at your funds, was such a relief that it was a natural reaction to want a haircut, or add on extra services. She is professional, honest, and funny. She is the definition of what a great experience of getting your hair done should feel like. I was highly recommended to their hair colorist Rosa. When I came in I showed her a picture of the color I wanted my hair. My original color is very black but I have had highlights for 20 years. I know the process and when they put the bleach with the foil it normally takes an hour to go to blonde. She placed me under the dryer and within 5 minutes my scalp was burning and the top of my hair all burned. When I was waiting for the other stylist to cut and blow dry my hair I started combing through and my hair was falling out all in chunks. I was so upset the manager came and Rosa totally ignored the whole situation. Never stopped what she was doing to check what she had done. After hours of different treatment to minimize the damage she never expressed any remorse. I believe in human error and at least if she would of apologize or come to correct the problem. This lady Rosa that claims that she has been doing this for 25 years need to really stop doing color.. I have been to every Salon in the Aventura in the last 20 years, but this is by far the worst place I have ever seen. After finding this place I will never go to another salon again. First of all, great location, second, its clean, third the prices are very fair, fourth the staff is very friendly and very fun, ALL OF THEM and 5th they have great hour and open earlier than most salons. If you want a hair cut and are afraid of scissor happy people go to Daniella. She wont hack off to much and does a great job. If you want color, see Silvia. She knows her stuff even with crazy colors and difficult color situations. Always on point. I always feel so pampered when I go. I'm offered water or coffee. I'm asked if the water for my shampoo is to hot or too cool. I'm asked if I want all lf my hair conditioned or just the ends and I'm asked if I want my condition rinse out to end with a cool rinse. I feel very catered to when I'm here and all the stylists are smiles and sometimes all dancing around to whatever is played on the radio. Good music there too. Just moved to the area and was a bit apprehensive about getting a new stylist for color and cut. Made an appointment with Emmy S. There was a mixed up with the schedule and someone else was suppose to cut and Emmy was to do the coloring.. After consulting and I expressed that I would prefer for her to do both services, Emmy did not hesitate; she rearranged her schedule to accommodate and the result is amazing. I love my hair color and cut. Emmy has great positive energy, very creative and she made me feel very comfortable and I trusted her with the whole process without worrying about the outcome. I told her to do what she thinks is best for my hair and she did. The ultimate complement is that my husband was so impressed with my new hair when I came home, he loved both the color and the cut! Now that is a success trip to the salon. :) I highly, highly recommend Emmy!!!! I am so happy I do not have to look further!! The Changing Room I would personally rate over 5 stars. The salon, staff and overall ambience is great. I started going there about a year ago or a little more and my Stylist was And is NICOLE. She is amazing from her knowledge, personality and magic hands. She really gets to know you and always recommends the best treatment for you, and always makes you feel comfortable. The best thing is she will always give you her honest input and in the end it's always your decision on what you would do, I am truly very happy and more than satisfied by her services. It is very hard to find a salon and a stylist that will really understand you and what you want and what you should have to do and what you shouldn't. But Nicole is truly a gem I always leave the salon feeling fabulous and great. and I go by a very good saying that I got from dearest Nicole, A girl that changes her hair is about to change the world. I moved from North Carolina to Miami at the end of 1983. I had my hair cut at a Hair Cuttery, or something like that one time. Not bad. I believe you get what you pay for and I want someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to my hair. The Changing Room was in my neighborhood where I was living in Miami and I went there. I moved here when I was almost 30 years old and I just turned 60 years old a few weeks ago. I have never had a problem, a bad cut, a bad attitude, or anything but the best care, the best cut, the best color (60 years old, right?) from walking in the door till the time I am in my car. I still have people stop me on a regular basis to ask where I get my hair done, and tell me how beautiful it is. I see Kim now and she is .......fantastic! All the staff, whoever, who did whatever part of the treatment, for all these years, have ALL been the best. I don't want to CHANGE from "The Changing Room" and I never will. I've been a client there for years. At first I came for a specific stylist, Yami, who since retired. Then I kept coming back because of the harmonious team atmosphere among the employees, which is so hard to find. The family feel among them draws you in and is a peaceful part of the experience. After Yami I was grateful to find Jennie, who makes it a point to know and understand my life and preferences, so the care is always tailored to my needs and preferences. I was specifically impressed this time when Jennie didn't have time to do the blow dry I requested last minute. She went out of her way to find someone who could do a super fast styling as we were fighting against the deadline of my impromptu dinner date. So Teresa stepped in, and rather than being stressed over this last minute rushed request, she made a sport out of strategizing this impossible job and the result was beautiful. Yesterday I went to get layers, my hair is very straight so I thought it would be relatively easy to do. She didn't even section my hair! I was with the stylist Jennifer who was recommended over the phone. She started the haircut by grabbing a large chunk of hair and cutting it really short, she grabbed way too much hair and now the majority of the front of my hair is too short. It wasn't blended at all! I was very clear about what I wanted and that I wanted it to be very blended and not choppy. It was so bad that she had to call another stylist to fix my hair, and it was beyond fixable. Jennifer was unapologetic and left as soon as the other stylist started working on me. The stylist who attempted to fix my hair was more apologetic than her. I wish I knew her name because she was very sweet but there was nothing she could do but tell me that I had to grow it out. I recently received a haircut from a different salon that wasn't particularly what I asked for. I wanted a long bob, or a Lob... but the stylist just cut my hair a few inches below my shoulder, one length all the way around, with layers that were shorter in the front than in the back - (not a bob). I came into The Changing Room to have it tweaked and Lo gave me the Lob of my dreams!! She's super friendly and funny. I emphasized to her that i wanted a LONG bob, one that wasn't above my shoulders or too short in the back. She managed to work around my first failed haircut, and cut me a perfect Lob! Even with my shorter front layers, she still managed to shape the perfect bob while also keeping the back the length that i asked for. She measures out her cuts pretty meticulously and checks often for evenness and it totally pays off. My hair is perfect. I highly recommend Lo for a cut! read more

I couldn't be happier. I just moved back to Miami after being in LA for almost 20 years. How ecstatic was I to see that The Changing Room was not only still alive but THRIVING!! And thank GAWD, because I needed their help BAD. Having extremely full-bodied wavy hair with severely processed ends and 6 months of virgin growth at the roots, I had a pit of anxiety in my stomach walking into this appointment, hoping that Stephanie would know how to tame my rebellious hair. SHE. WAS. AWESOME!!! In no time my custom color was blended to PERFECTION. The damage was gone and the cut was ideal for the day-to-day management of my predictably unpredictable texture. My husband made me and appointment here while we were on vacation. I didn't know one person in this salon and left with the feeling that I have been going there for years. The girls have a great sense of team work, work ethics and they made it very relaxing. Not to mention , I had 4 children with me all under the age of 7. Which were treated like family. I had my hair dyed, washed , cut and styled and it was an amazing experience. On top of that. My kids left their leapfrog computer games their and we were staying in Bonita springs. tHEY SENT them to me!! Overnighted!! I decided to come to the Changing Room on a whim. I've been wanting to switch things up & finally decided it was the day. I was seated with Kelly who talked me through all my different ideas & options until we came up with a plan. She listed to all of my rants & ideas & gave me an honest professional opinion all while being gentle. My hair is not the healthiest & rather than forcing a color job too soon, we decided to go for a chop to take off all of the dead, frazzled hair. Kelly told me that doing a color job would have been way too damaging for my hair & would not have given me the result I wanted. Rather than just doing it for the money, Kelly had my best interest at the forefront & I couldn't have appreciated that more. I could not be any happier with my overall experience at The Changing Room! From the first phone call to book an appointment, I knew that the customer service was incredible and their attention made me feel important. I went in to have my hair done for a bodybuilding competition, and the service, and style exceeded my expectations! I was stunning on the stage! My stylist took my vision and realized it better than I had ever imagined! I left feeling beautiful, well taken care of, and placed top three and all three classes! If it were a hair show, I would have taken it all! I also received a courtesy call the next day to make sure that I was happy with my experience, and I appreciated that very much. I was initially referred to the changing room by my sister-in-law. Her and her family have been using the salon for their services for many years. The first time I visited the salon I was going with Maria who is the most kind and sweet and talented woman. She performed beautiful haircuts and color. When I decided I wanted tape in hair extensions they referred me to Stephanie, and she has been amazing. Stephanie is an incredibly talented artist. She has been doing the most beautiful color and tape in extensions on me for over a year now. She was responsible for getting my hair in top wedding shape. I am so happy that I found the salon. I have been going to The Changing Room for over 40 years and it is only getting better and better. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed and feel as if you are home. The talent of the stylists, the colorists, those that cut hair and the personal attention given by everyone to each customer, from the girls behind the counter to those that wash hair, are unchallenged. I had a rocky first experience here--the stylist unfortunately messed up my hair, cutting it way shorter than I asked and uneven. I was really disappointed, but I appreciated that the owner took full responsibility, refunded me, and gave me store credit as well. That kind of customer service made me feel like they genuinely cared, so I decided to give them another shot. I'm so glad I did! I found them in January when I was years overdue for a hair cut. From the front desk to the hair wash girl to the stylist..... all friendly, all great customer service. Daniella cut wonderful long layers into my hair and didn't cut off a millimeter more than I asked her to. I highly recommend her and this place! After being burned by another hair cut business which i had to wait a while for the bad haircut to grow out. As I walked in the place the reception was very friendly and professional. I was then greeted by Rachel, We discussed on some options on what would work and look good with my hair. Her communication and feedback was on point. Sitting under the dryer as I type this…read more My hair is African American type 4, mid-back length with almost 9 months of new growth. I arrived a bit before the opening time of 9am, and was let right in. I told the stylist (Yuraima, I think) that I wanted a wash, deep condition and set, and she took me back to the sink right away. She washed my hair three times, which is once more than I usually lather it, but okay. After she applied the conditioner, she sat me under the dryer for about ten minutes, and offered me coffee, which I accepted. She even came back afterwards to make sure it was to my liking. At the sink to rinse my conditioner out, she grabbed a wide tooth comb. She rinsed me, reapplied a bit more conditioner, and combed through. She directed me to her chair, where she used a rat tail comb to section, and then patiently and gently comb through my hair. She sprayed some yummy citrus smelling concoction on it, too. To be continued once my hair is done. I sat under the dryer about 45 minutes, give or take, and then Yeimy took over the blow dry and flat iron. She asked me if I was going natural, which I am not, then seemed relieved at my answer, commenting that because my hair was long, the transition process would be "ugly" for me, and that some hair just looks better with a relaxer. I took that to mean that my natural naps would be displeasing to her eye. Minus one for this ignorance. All in all my hair looked as if it was freshly permed but with this South Florida humidity, I don't expect it to last too long. $45 for just under 3 hours, entrance to exit. There were about 6 other clients that came and went while I was there, with just the two ladies working. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the temperature inside was perfect; not too frigid, nor too warm.

Groupon brought me to FeNom, and I hope to come back later on…read more I called 15 minutes before my appt to let them know I was running a little late, and my stylist Alissa was understanding. When I arrived, I really had no clue what I wanted - stylist's nightmare, I'm sure. I had had long hair for so long, I couldn't picture myself with any other hairstyle. After clipping off the bleached ends of my mane, Alissa shampooed and conditioned while we chatted a bit about life. (Note, water did make its way down my neck and back during this experience) Alissa had suggested layers framing my face and the rest of my hair - my only concern was I wanted to maintain some length, which she reassured me I would. Snip snip away! 45 minutes and a styling blow dry later, my head was so much lighter. It was crazy. Well, according to friends, it's still long, but I feel the difference. And it feels so strong and healthy. After about 2 weeks, I'm finally used to the feel of the layers. The only note that I had was the location - if your GPS tells you to U-turn at the light, do not! You want to left turn and then turn left again, following the road back until you see a two-story strip mall. It's an awkward location, and in the evening, there is very little lighting around the building and the stairwells. Nonetheless, I'm pleased with my experience at FeNom, and with Alissa. So, I decided to try it out for my highlights since I use a salon down the street which I also found on yelp that has much higher reviews than this one and has been in business for over 30 years. I wasn't unhappy with the place I use I just wanted to try someone new and read about Jessica the owner. I tried to make an earlier appointment 3:30 but they couldn't do it so I had a 4:00. Regardless I went in at 3:30 because I came from work and running errands around the area with traffic just isn't easy. I walk in at 3:35 and what do you know not one person in the salon getting their hair done. Perfect ! In a weird way so, I can actually start earlier and get out earlier .I sat down and told Jessica what I wanted plain and simple. I showed her a picture of my hair, and said just match that please. Full highlights with her are $175 higher than most places in the area for a hole in the wall salon, but she had good reviews. Next, she started going on a rampage about my hair I need this, and that, and this and that. I told her I had a baby and at 6 months lost hair around the frame of my face. She told me no it is because my hair is damaged and needs a treatment for that. REALLY??????? So, my gynecologist whom went to 15 years of college is wrong? But, Jessica knows more because she never had a baby. Strike 1. I talked her out of the doing . She then comes back with a price of $247 that for highlights/gloss mind you no blowout, no haircut, and no deep conditioning treatment. I never felt so uncomfortable you know those people that try to sell snow to an Eskimo? Well, they must be related to Jessica because she is greedy, and tries to sell you everything possible to the point it is almost obnoxious. I walked out of the salon and booked an appointment back with the girl I always use for 1/2 the price and the same amazing job ! The ironic thing is that salon has higher yelp reviews and is 40 blocks south !!!!!!!
