Recently, we received an email stating that students are not permitted to enter classrooms before the scheduled class time so that instructors can "prepare the learning environment." However, in reality, many professors arrive exactly at the start time or even after class is supposed to begin. Meanwhile, students are expected to stand in hallways or find somewhere else to go even when we arrive early after work to study. The only alternative spaces are the library or cafeteria, both of which have very limited seating. It feels unreasonable to pay out of pocket for an education and not even be allowed to sit in an empty classroom while waiting. We then received another email about elevator use, which is understandable for accessibility reasons. However, the message stated that misuse could result in parent/guardian contact. This is a school of adults, and many of us are parents ourselves. Including language like that clearly shows how little the administration thinks of its students and reinforces the feeling that we are treated like children rather than responsible adults paying for a professional education. Another major concern is the lack of respect and support from some faculty members. For example, Professor Jayne Kier is extremely unapproachable. Students feel uncomfortable asking questions because responses are often sarcastic, dismissive, or met with long, intimidating stares. There is little guidance provided, yet students are made to feel as though they are wrong for seeking help. This creates a stressful and discouraging learning environment. Lastly, it often feels like students cannot safely voice concerns. When issues are brought up to administration, they are dismissed as complaints rather than taken seriously even though many of us are committed, adult learners who care deeply about our education and future careers. It is incredibly disappointing to be treated this way as paying adult students. We invest our time, energy, and money into this program, yet we are treated as if we are receiving a free service and should simply accept it without question. The tone and treatment are not only disrespectful, they are humiliating.

It's important to note that this is a family-run operation, and the Dean of Admissions is the daughter of the president of the college. Her lack of professionalism and basic leadership skills is astonishing. I would refer to the heads of the Admissions Department as callous, selfish, and pretentious girls. When you meet them, they appear to be respectable and educated women, but after maybe a month or two of working with them, you'll realize they're nothing more than immature girls who seemingly refuse to run an office efficiently. One of the first examples of this that you'll notice is in the workload expectation itself: these girls will demand that you "balance" and "time manage" your way through countless virtual or in-person meetings, incoming calls, current students needing help with financial aid (which goes way beyond what should be in your scope -- especially considering you're not on the financial aid team), document collection, and then still make 100+ daily calls to prospective students -- all of which is monitored and tracked. At this point, you'll probably realize one of two things: A) you're not getting paid enough for the insane amount of work and infeasible expectations (which they'll never admit are infeasible), or B) you quit -- which is honestly very common. If you go with option A, you might try speaking to management to ask for fair compensation or even just help with your workload -- both of which will be a waste of time. They only give support or raises to people they personally decide are "deserving," which basically means unless you're part of the management team, you can forget it. The four girls that make up the "management team" are the only ones who get even half an ounce of respect from the Dean who runs admissions -- but even they aren't safe. You may catch a glimpse of her treating her own directors like they're brain-dead, and they just nod along and take it. Something else you'll notice quickly: the directors don't do much besides micromanage and look out for themselves. Some hide it better than others, but they mostly act as a bridge between you and the Dean -- which can feel like a blessing, because once that buffer breaks, you'll find yourself sitting in 2-3 meetings a week to "review your activity." Sometimes these meetings are fine -- they'll warm you up with small talk or tell you you're hitting your "mini-goals." But then, out of nowhere, you'll have your first bad meeting, and that's when things change. They'll speak to you in such a condescending and disgusting tone that it drives some people to quit that same day -- or at the very least, start planning their exit. And here's the worst part: you'll love your team aside from them. The rest of the Admissions reps genuinely try to help each other. That's the only reason people stay -- because you're bonded by the trauma of this workplace. The teamwork and support from your peers are what keep things afloat -- not leadership. Without that, this department would collapse. There's also this fake sense of "growth" they try to dangle in front of you -- offering made-up job titles as an incentive to stick around. But those titles are meaningless. They give you no real influence over the department, or even the specific program you work on. It's just a form of bribery, usually handed out right after someone quits to make it look like there's upward mobility. But there's not. The title means nothing -- it's just a tactic. You'll also notice that when things reach a breaking point, they suddenly go into fake "damage control mode." That's when you'll see random praise, fake check-ins, and surface-level appreciation gestures -- all just to keep the department from falling apart. It's obvious and exhausting. The sad part is, once they see this review (yes, they obsessively check reviews as well), they will all deny accountability because it doesn't fit their narrative of what kind of team they think they've built. Instead of reflecting on why so many people leave, why morale is so low, or why their department has become a revolving door, they'll spend hours trying to figure out who wrote the review and deny everything among themselves. Reflection and change won't come -- just more finger-pointing and more turnover. Never in my life have I seen or heard of it being normal for people to quit on the spot -- often after just a few weeks, and in some cases, even just a few days. That's how bad it is. Do not waste your time, value, or integrity here. You deserve better -- and trust me, so do the people who are still stuck in that department.

This is the first school as well, that needs/wants to speak to a parent of a 21 yr old about financial aid and loans?!?! Why?!?! That makes absolutely ZERO SENSE!!! It's YOUR JOB as a school that claims to be the "best" and "accredited", etc., to want to help out students who want to attend your school for a better life and instead you're making it difficult, wanting them to go into debt when they graduate by paying back every single loan you want them to get. Be honest with the prospective/current student and let them know that you won't be accepting their "current SallieMae loan and that you want them to take out a series of loans so they can pay for their schooling!" I even had some professors, create their own external websites instead of using Brightspace, which has made me and many other students fail their class due to how irrational they were. The school just makes it completely difficult to pursue a nursing degree. Too many people I know are dropping out or have been there for more than 2 years. I was better off applying to a 4 year school. They make you take unnecessary classes for the nursing degree which aren't required at any other college across the country, this prolongs your stay, and if you mess up and get below a C just say goodbye. Any bad grade you get won't get replaced by the new grade if you take the class over. Biology classes are split into two for lecture and lab meaning you have to pay double the price. Many professors in the medical department are very condescending , they hear about you pursuing nursing (which 80% of their students are) and they make it their goal to be spiteful and to discourage you on your journey. Professors, Dr. Philip Costa and Dr. Rosa Ronquillo were by far the BEST professors ever!! Also, im unsure why but most of the English professors in this college are depressed. Although my advisor is wonderful , she has withheld information from me before regarding the classes I needed to take in order to get my degree which prolonged my stay. This leads to my other issue I have with this school, if you don't enroll in high demand courses before a certain time you will not be able to get into any of their classes even if you apply weeks or even a month before the classes starting date. My advisor knows this information so her informing me last minute about classes I need to take is very frustrating . As for other advisors, I have never heard anything good about them. My best friends advisor put him in the wrong major , which he then had to do an additional 2 years. Another classmate (also pursing nursing) told me her advisor told her to just drop out instead of supporting her (she eventually dropped out). I've seen so many of my smartest most intelligent classmates cry over the course of two years because of the stress and classes. I don't give up so easily but if I did I would've been dropped out. I think anyones experience here would be much better than mine and faster if pursuing an easier major with less advanced classes like liberal arts or something. The graduation rate is 24%-30%. I've already been a CNA for years and was looking to recertify. This is probably a waste of time, it usually is for bad businesses that don't want to spend any money, just mill out people and make money. If you're going to sign up for Access Careers in Hempstead, here's a couple of things to look out for before you make the commitment and spend the money. The population of students in my class mostly worked during the day and came to school at night. If you are one of these people trying to save money to scrape together the money to attend this school they accommodate you as such, like you're poor and you're lucky to be there. You will receive such amenities as not having the lab supplies you need every time you have to go in there. Now the director Mini, turned it on the teacher, which true it would have been helpful, but, it was obvious that she had never checked in with her operation like a director/ supervisor is supposed to. That's 101 supervisor stuff. It's Mini's school. She blamed one of the only good employees she had for everything, my teacher one of them. The classrooms and bathrooms are dirty, the desks cheap. They're those metal fold up chairs for picnics with small writing surface over one of the arms. Your uniform will be a plastic shower curtain with the Access insignia. The building smells disgusting. There's no sanitary receptacles in the bathroom, but the toilets will overflow if you drop anything in there. There is a letter in all caps written to students to keep it clean with picture of a clean toilet bowl next to another toilet bowl with urine in it at flies swarming around it. Charming. The director told me she uses that bathroom also, she doesn't seem to think it's gross or smells bad. How? She proceeded to ask me why I'm just opening my mouth up about it now. Blaming me now. I wanted to finish the six week program and move on, they had my money. I'm glad I didn't speak up, it was in my best interest, the response I received today was deflective and defensive . Many things need to be fixed. I called the director to give my feedback, but, she didn't take to it well, hanging up on me. I think you have right to know that stuff now. I think you should know she is aware of the unacceptable state of her school. If she does something about it, good. She is aware though, so if you have a complaint don't let her tell you it's the first time hearing it and she's just shocked to death that no one told her. Don't ask Leani for anything, she's mad you asked. Also say goodnight to her when she says goodnight to you or she'll come back and reprimand you like a child whether you're mid chew or not. Don't ask Mini for anything either, she will not take responsibility for rigged together operation Access is. Like I said I've been a CNA, I paid 300 dollars less, and it was a great experience. My school was clean and everything. The school is the way it is because of choices. The trashes in the classrooms were always overflowing, and a lot of times it smelled and it smelled up the classroom. I used to just take it out, the garbage pails smelled so gross. Ultimately, everything was everyone else's fault except Mini's, the director. She didn't notice the classrooms were dirty. It's the cleaning crew's fault. I was there for 6 weeks, the lack of noticing how gross the school was was there way before I got there. The labs not having the materials they needed, not a lot of noticing going on until I just brought it up apparently. Today, today was the first time the dirty school will be noticed as being dirty, the bathrooms will be noticed perhaps as being absolutely disgusting today. Mini never noticed before. She blamed her cleaning crew. The teacher was asking office workers for supplies, she was unaware until today. She blamed the teacher. She blamed me for not doing all the noticing she should have been doing herself. It's her school. I've been a boss of huge projects, in charge of 40 plus people. Their success was my success. You have to take responsibility for what goes on under your supervision and do your best to make it better, not keep it status quo. I was fond of my classmates, they all worked hard and were trying to better themselves. My teacher Mrs. Herbert had been nurse for many years. I was a CNA for many years, she did her best to try and emphasize the importance of maintaining the dignity of each resident and to empower us to do our best and take care of ourselves. Honestly, I'm furious. If you can find a better school with better conditions with people who take responsibility for their short comings and make changes. Do it. There are good schools, Access Careers in Hempstead is trash. Good luck everyone, you deserve to be treated well, no matter what tax bracket you're in.
