I have been a licensed HHA since 2019 by the Department of Heath and currently attend college for Social Work and am a 4.0 college student and without a doubt dodged a bullet with potentially being trained with inaccurate information and or not all of the pertinent information as it pertains to the classes. If a program fails to provide basic pertinent information such as their will be a quiz during this orientation/ interview what else are they gonna leave out... That's dangerous and creates unprepared and potentially misinformed future EMT's I was invited to attend the Senior Care sponsored EMT program Orientation/ Interview in February of 2025 it was never mentioned that I would have to take a test and upon taking that test I scored a 9/10 and was invited to continue to interview with Senior Care on another day which it was never mentioned that their is a two part interview. I ended up getting covid and was unable to attend that second interview and had sent an email and requested to reschedule that second interview however, nobody replied to me. I signed up for the next sponsored orientation and was invited to attend again Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 and attended. There was no mention yet again that I was required to take the same test that I took last time I came in less than 6 months ago, Obviously I was not aiming to score high on the same test I was aiming to simply pass which I did and got a 7/10 not knowing that that this program does not accept those that score 8 or lower which I found out literally yesterday after I pressed Leah for the truth on the phone yesterday which is bias. Upon speaking to Leah on the phone yesterday I wanted to follow up and see if they would be letting me in this sponsored class and explained to her why I scored low and to advocate for myself to start the conversation off she stated " why did you call us for this you could have sent an email" I felt like saying well i would have if you guys had replied to my last one but kept it to myself. Long story short she stated that we do not accept people into the program who score 8 or below. I argued that passing is passing and that my college GPA and my healthcare experience should trump that exam which is logical and practical argument she indicated that they would not accept and being very cloak and dagger and I asked flat out are you accepting me into this program yes or no and she stated no. My time and money was wasted traveling from Far Rockaway. This program has no respect for my time at all but in the end I do not want to be associated with with a program that engages in the shady and bias business practices but in the end it worked out for the best. I never got to take the course because right after the first "class" (it wasn't actually a class, the whole first session is dedicated to boring logistics and making sure everyone pays one by one) I found out that I'm not able to take the course due to medical reasons. The whole story is long and boring but in short, a year and a half later and I still wasn't able to get a dime back from them after paying them $1600! I never asked for a full refund due to my late notice but asked politely many times for some partial refund since I never actually took the class and notified them right after the first session. They've been super shady in their handling of it, not returning my emails etc. In the meantime, shortly after I paid them al this money the same type of course became free due to city funding but they insist on keeping my money for a course I never took! I even filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau and they never bothered to respond to it. I guess my money is worth to them more than their reputation and how sketchy they look. read more

Ah, ECP. Through the ups and downs of this course, I feel like three stars is the right rating to describe a mixed bag of an experience, though if I had to be exact, I might round to a 2.5 To begin, I took the EMT-B course here, and Todd Rosenhaus was my main instructor, as well as my favorite instructor. However I also liked Armen, Cosmo, Kurt, Michelle and Mary Ann (spelling?) quite a bit. I also had a brief experience with an instructor named Karen, who was very nice. Moshe is an extreme hard ass who I did not like, as well as this other Korean guy whose name I never learned. In general though, all instructors at ECP are knowledgeable, professional, and have the skills necessary to teach you to pass your state exam. However, once you are finished with the course, the instructors aren't too good at maintaining contact. Furthermore, the office of ECP is generally not too helpful. The EMT-B course here will last 150 hours, so whether you're having weekday courses or weekend courses, it will add up to 150 either way. I can't say which one I recommend, but if you have to work full time, for many of you the only option will be the Sunday course, which is held way over in 6715 Bay Parkway at runs 9-5. The lessons here are split up into lectures and practicals, but towards the end of the course, they will be 90% practicals. You're allowed to miss six classes in this program, but you'll have to make it up either through attending remedial classes, or doing online assignments, so there's really no way to skip. Miss more than six classes here and you're kicked out. Otherwise, I imagine the material and practicals they teach here are not vastly different from other EMT-B courses around the city, whether they be part of a university, or an independent outfit. I paid about $1450 for this course in 2017, and $250 of it was for the textbook we used, as well as online access to e-homework we had to do for the course. I think ECP is a little bit more expensive than other EMT-B courses in the city, as some CCs will offer the course for around $1000. Moving on, I want to say that this course can be very challenging to many. I was nearly kicked out a bunch of times because I turned things in late, such as health forms and homework. As for health forms, I highly recommend you look into flu shots, MMR and TB shots before you sign up for this class, as they're all necessary in order to continue with the class. Your instructor himself may be a little flexible with these, but don't count on it. The BIGGEST problem with this course is the attrition rate. We started the class probably with like, 40+ people, but by the day of the state exam, we only had something like 10-15 people sitting the test, which means over the course of several months, 25 people or so failed out of the class. Of those people sitting the state exam, I imagine something like 90%+ passed, which sounds like a pretty high success rate- but the true pass rate for this class is less than 50%, if you're measuring success from day one. I would qualify that lots of the drop outs in this class have only themselves to blame, considering that many people just didn't put forward the time, or even do the homework. However, ECP doesn't make any exceptions for people who fall behind, and they're generally inflexible about hard requirements, such as grades needed to progress with the class. What's more, once you're out, you're out- if you want to re-enroll, you have to pay ECP all over again. There were some other small problems here as well, but a review can only be so long... A quick note about EMT-B and/or EMS jobs in general: they don't pay much, but the work will always exist. EMS is in no danger any time soon of becoming automated, and is impossible to be outsourced, so if you have this credential, think of it as having earned access to a job which will never make you rich, but almost always be available. She kept on cutting me off while I was responding to her answer and got mad when I was only just answering her questions. I had Karen as my lead instructor at the Bay Parkway location. She went above and beyond as an instructor every single day. I took an accelerated course over the summer and it lasted just shy of two months. It's an adult education course and you'll only do well if you put in the work and effort. Karen made the lectures engaging and interesting for the students and all the instructors we had for our practicals were incredibly helpful in guiding us through steps for skills stations. Karen pushed us incredibly hard but only because she wanted us to succeed!! It's our responsibility as students to use that momentum to push ourselves to do better. When I'm out in the field, I know I'm going to hear Karen's voice in my head and that's going to make me be a better EMT when I'm trying to save a life! As a student we do a 911 rotation and ride along in an ambulance for a whole shift. There's no more real world experience than that! It gives you a first hand view of what it is to be an EMT and as a student we were also allowed to assist with patients when it came to skills we've already mastered in class. It was nerve wracking but also exhilarating! I see people saying the course is really difficult and people fail out or don't make it to the final but I highly encourage anyone taking this course to remember you're an adult and you're responsible for how you do. All the material and information is given to you but you have to do the work, that means read along with the textbook and complete all the homework on time Karen more than prepared us for the NYS exam because she wants us to not only pass the exam but be great EMTs when we're put on the field. That's how you know she's a great instructor, she genuinely cares. You're training to go save lives in the real world, this course is the one that's going to prepare you the best to do so!! read more

I took the summer course with Karen Fiorello. To preface- this course is for serious students only! If you've gone to summer college courses before, it's pretty on par with the amount of material you will need to cover. Unless you already took biology elective courses in college, you will need to dedicate a whole day at least to completing the reading and assignments. All the reviewers that whined about how much you have to cram probably have no experience taking college summer courses- so again, SERIOUS STUDENTS ONLY! If you are not confident about how much you can retain in such a short time, speak to ECP about their longer sessions- the session I took was only 3 months. You can always discuss switching courses within the first few weeks, ECP will work with you on that. Adversely, if you're already a biology major, you can take the advanced course. After working as an EMT for five months, I can confidently say that ECP prepared me for almost everything (you know, minus specific company policies and issues). Some things I've learned were not even taught by the programs my work partners went to. Karen was always available on the class WhatsApp chat and all the other instructors like AnneMarie, Rickey, Chris(both of them), Moon, Irene, Shirley, Amanda, ...etc were always happy to provided real life experience advices and tips. Most if not all of them graduated from ECP too. I'm still in contact with some of my classmates and instructors to exchange information about protocol changes and such. Like other programs, ECP mandates a rotation with the option to do a 911 rotation which really helps with orienting yourself to the job. Some of my classmates have even gone on to STRIKE Team (emergency calls and stat transfers only) within a few short weeks because of how well ECP trained us. ECP runs their program very professionally, and will treat you as a professional if you show respect in turn- this isn't high school anymore, people! They try to mirror the partnership and shared responsibility aspect of the EMT life- which I really liked because it translated well to the actual job. I've had partners from other programs that almost got me in trouble because they didn't learn this in their programs. So yes, if you've read the other reviews, you will be kicked out of the program if you mess around or don't keep up with deadlines. Honestly, as one of the people doing well in the class, I didn't like being dragged down by the ones who were not doing well and was actually glad when they got kicked out (especially the ones that slept in class or didn't learn anything- I wouldn't want them as partners at work!). A lot of people may whine about not having enough time to finish their assignments- but all assignments are given in the beginning of the course along with the deadlines and they take approximately an hour or less to finish. I've known other classes that completed all the assignments within a week. By the way, the tests are all designed to mirror the national exam- how questions are asked and what information is more important to know. It's pretty hard to fail the certification test if you pass all the class exams. Attrition might be low in some classes (our class lost maybe 10 out of 30 students but there has been one class of 60 I know of that only lost 4) but in the end it filters out the people that wouldn't make good EMTs for whatever reason- this is a job, after all, that people's health and lives depends on. Overall, I think ECP is one of the better programs if you're looking to become an EMT quickly but competently. I haven't noticed any difference in knowledge and skill level between this program and other programs (even FDNY's EMT program which is one year). Just be sure you're willing to make sacrifices (I.e. potentially your social life) like you would as a certified EMT. read more

I was currently taking a coarse there my instructor wasn't the best. Yosef Travis was not fair to his students his teaching skills were horrible. He did not give enough time for us to study for an exam. He would tell the class the shut up and that's very unprofessional. He gives us a review sheet two days before an exam to study. I emailed the office to let them know I would not be attending this class anymore and I never got a response. I finally called and spoke to a women name Leah she was very rude and nasty over the phone. She kept talking over me and would not listen to what I had to say. All she was concern and yelling over the phone saying that I owe money which was a lie because I paid for everything. They don't let you take exams if your missing a payment it could be a dollar off and they still would not let you take it. They care more about the money then their students read more

This program is a waste of time their only focus is to make money by failing you, the information and practical skills are not hard to learn but the issue is in how inflexible they make the classes and set it up as a ticking time bomb 6 misses and you're out, a miss is if you're late by over thirty minutes or in my case if you are in surgery and provide proof, also the material/ review sheets you study to do exams aren't worth anything as none of that will be on the test, I believe that the pass or fail of this class is strongly dependent on favoritism or some other factors but the fact that they can take your money and not try to work with you, your schedule or unexpected accidents is a major turnoff also my instructor was very knowledgeable but very old fashioned and was scatter brained giving the test reviews 2 days before the quiz and not sending tutorials but will ask you if you watch them constantly like do you know what you're doing you have 6 classes but high school teachers do a better job than you at keeping up, it's like you don't think people have jobs, kids, and are making an effort to learn a new skill scarifying time with family or over time just for you to forget to give a class vital information every week and during make ups that are a waste of time cos how do you make up a class but it's still considered missed!? read more

Make sure to look into who your instructor is. Instructor was not knowledeable and many failed out of his course due to incompetence as a teacher. Fail just one test by just one point and you're out of the class (69 on test with only 3 classes left of program). To take class again is $700. You do not get a chance to take the state exam, you do not get a percentage of your money back. DO YOUR RESEARCH, AND SHOP OTHER SCHOOLS WHO HAVE A MORE ETHICAL SYSTEM IN PLACE. I took this course during Spring 2019 with Jonathon Sherman as the main instructor (179th St location). Jonathon was an excellent instructor - straightforward, fair, and understanding. Format of the class was lecture sections some nights and practical sections others. During the practicals other EMS instructors would assist, and all but one of the other instructors were fantastic, as well. The class is time consuming, both for the sheer amount of time in class (2-3 sessions/week and 4 hrs/session) plus the work outside of class (2+ hrs/class period) and commute time. However, Jonathon and all of the other instructors prepared us extremely well for the state exam. More importantly, I believe that everyone that passed the class is also prepared to become a competent EMT in the field. Would recommend 100%. read more

There hasn't been a good review about ECP in quite some time, and its definitely not a coincidence. My classmates and I had the misfortune of having to endure a six month course with Fred and Eli. Fred is absolutely insufferable and does not care about actually passing his students. He is blatantly disrespectful to so many students and is equally disliked not just by students, but by the instructors as well. This school is not looking to make EMT's, they just want to make money. The passing rate in this school is not advertised, and for good reason. My class started out with about 50 students and ended with about 23. Other students who also had Fred as an instructor, ended with a class of just 11 students. I should mention that I'm not writing this because I didn't pass the course and am now bitter. I passed with flying colors, but it had nothing to do with those two. There are some amazing instructors there who are great EMT's and who actually do care about their students, but unfortunately that was not enough. My classmates and I sought out help from other main instructors there, as well as from EMT's and Paramedics outside of the school. Your CPR certification will be absolutely worthless. I used to work in the recruiting department onboarding new employees for Continuum Health Partners (now under Mount Sinai) and I know for a fact that most reputable EMS companies/hospitals will require that you receive your CPR certification from the American Heart Association, otherwise you will not be hired. What you receive here, will not help you with getting most jobs. I'm lucky enough to have someone who can help me get the correct certification, but if I didn't, I'd have to retake my CPR class. I would not wish the experience I had at ECP on my worst enemy. If you really want to be an EMT, go to another school. read more

I took the fall EMT-B course which went from September to February. The lead instructor of this class was Jonathan Sherman. Overall, I had a very positive experience with ECP. Jonathan is a great instructor that cares for his students. This course can get a bit overwhelming if you do not prepare or study for it beforehand, especially to those students who have no science/medical background. This course over prepares you for the state written and practical exam. The class exams and quizzes are harder than the actual state exam because ECP wants all of their students to pass the state exams. There are many "checkpoints" during the class where if you do not pass a certain number of exams or quizzes you get kicked out of the class. Overall, the exams and quizzes are not that hard if you actually study for them. For the students that do make it till the end of the class, you are guaranteed to pass the state written and practical exams. I passed the state practical exam and scored a 96% on the written. Jonathan's class was also above the state average for the course which I was not surprised about! If you plan to take the EMT-B course, please try to get Jonathan as lead instructor! He is hard on students, but that is because he wants his students to succeed!! read more

They make it very clear that they would rather be anywhere else but in that class, this is very discouraging to students. This place sets you up for failure. They want you to fail, so that they can get more money out of you. It is plain and simple robbery. It's so easy to fail and get dropped from this course. The exams are very tricky. They put questions in the exams that have not even been discussed in class. However, they DO discuss it AFTER the exam. Like I said, THEY WANT YOU TO FAIL. It's so backwards. Makes no sense to me. Eh seemed a little odd but hey we tried it. They overload and cram tons of material and back to back tests and quizzes and you basically have to teach yourself the material. It's A LOT. Long story short midway through the course my fiancé was passing most of the quizzes and tests and completing all of the online assessments up all hours of the night studying and doing the work. The other day they began calling people into this room and dismissing them for poor performance with no refund. I paid approximately$ 1600.00 for this course and they dismissed him with not even half of a refund and not just him Approx 30/40 other people they made out with over $60 k from dismissing people and offering them a discount on a next course (laughable) this program is ROBBERY and pure trash I will be taking this matter to the BBB ! The program directors and the main office are pure robbers when I called some little girl kept putting me on hold over and over and said well we won't offer a refund it says it in something you signed.
