Great, maybe slightly overpriced wine/cider/liquor store. Was recommended to me by some friends and I decided to check it out. They have a surprisingly large selection for such a small store and the people working are INCREDIBLY helpful. I asked for their Jenny and Francois selections and the associate pointed out every single bottle they had available including a couple I tried and loved. This is definitely a store where you can trust the workers' recommendations, you may just pay a few bucks extra per bottle for it. Reminds me of sea grape in nyc or everyday wines in Ann Arbor. They know their stuff. I did feel like they were pushing the high $$$ bottles though - for example one of my favorite wines (a Jenny and Francois orange - hey Linus- at $20 a bottle) was one of the last recommendations they gave even though he claimed it was "one of their best popular orange wines". Idk, it just felt a little bit like cost was not a consideration when providing recs; im sure some people are money blind but the vast majority of people I know would prefer a great value $20 wine over a $75 splurge. Overall these people know their stuff; but their stuff might be pushing expensive bottles. Either way you can def trust their recs. Decent hours, I think 11-8 or so? read more

Best wine shop in Ithaca. Small but well-curated, with a good mix of easy drinking cheaper wines and some higher end bottles, plus a lot of stars of the natural wine world. They also carry some of the best New York State producers, and have a small refrigerated selection too, in case you want to grab and go right to a park to pop that bottle. read more

Selection of wine is fine, they do have some more niche wines and a good selection of French/German wine and even some half bottles. However that's as much as I can recommend this place. My boyfriend and I had perused for a bit before he settled on a couple of half bottles to try. When we went to check out the cashier made some really condescending remarks. He just had such a pretentious attitude and mannerisms that it was off-putting. We were both very friendly and didn't say anything that might have prompted him to speak down to us-- but we felt so uncomfortable that neither of us would like to go back. It was my first time in the store so I was excited to see what they had but overall the experience was soured by his attitude. read more

If only there were a way to transport Cellar d'Or to Manhattan! Where else can I find this many ciders on tap, plus such a sizable selection on the shelves?! We tasted quite a few of the ciders on tap and were impressed by the various flavor profiles. The guy helping us was very friendly and helped us find ciders to fit our tastes. Bought two growlers to bring home and now I'll have to find a way to ration them to last the rest of the summer...?! Should've bought more! read more

Took my order. Created a label. Shipped it who knows where. Sold out of the wine and didn't bother to call to let me know. I had to chase them. And then they turned it around. Despite my being very upset with them, they pursued tracking down some more of this elusive wine, found it, contacted me with an invoice all set up to go and shipped it quickly and efficiently. (26/100) This place is pretty cool. We stopped in to look around and walked out with 6 bottles for $60! Awesome. There are about 10 bottles to choose from for this deal. I chose two whites, two reds, and two ciders. We were able to try one of the ciders before buying, as it was being sampled in the wine tasting. Tasted like oaky apple pie-yum. The staff was polite and helpful too. These bottles will look lovely in my wine chest when we get home-just not sure for how long. Hehe. Stop on in. Music immediately set a perfect vibe in the store. All wines, ciders, and spirits were artistically places on the shelves with simple aesthetic price tags on each bottle. I used to be a fan of this place, but some terrible customer service has ended that. I had ordered a bottle of wine that they were advertising in their latest mailing. It was supposed to arrive last Friday. I showed up, but was told that they had sold out of that shipment. The next shipment would be Wednesday. Okay, a bit unusual, but I figured that these things can happen. I came back the following Thursday, to pick it up. The young guy goes in the back for a few minutes, comes back to check the computer, goes back to his search for a few minutes, comes back out, then pulls one off the retail shelf. So they didn't bother to fulfill my online order. If I had come any later, and the shelf stock had sold, I guess I'd have been out of luck! I mentioned to the guy that their system of organization seemed to be making his job harder. He did NOT take kindly to that. Pitched a little hissy fit. Between my online order and today's purchase, I had just dropped $100 on that place, and he couldn't manage to avoid the bitter sarcasm? I called to find out if they had particular wine that I preferred. I was told that they would order it and have it in a couple of days. When I called back I was told it would be the middle of the following week. When I called then I got an answering machine and left a call back number and a message. It is now been five days since then and have heard nothing from them. I thought it might be convenient to get my wine from them as it is a short walk from my residence. I was mistaken. When I made the order he told me he had it in stock. Two days later(promised day of delivery) he told me it just came into the store, meaning he fibbed that it was in stock two days before. Great place. The owner and the other staff are super knowledgeable about all the wines. You can ask them about each wine in the store and they can tell you about it--they have tasted all of them. You won't get this service at the big stores, like Wegmans Wine & Spirits. There is cider on tap, free wine tastings Friday Evenings, and they have great high priced wines, and also great low priced, high value wines! Be sure to bring your 6-pack wine carrier when you go, because you'll likely be purchasing some great wines for you at reasonable prices. read more

I bought a $50 bottle of wine here and took it to a party in DC. WHen we opened it, we discovered it had turned. It was undrinkable. I went back to let the folks to let them know in case they had more bottles from this batch. I was grilled to such an extent about the details of what was wrong, I had the feeling they didn't believe me. It was insulting. I usually love going there but now will most likely avoid. An apology would have been nice much less a refund. North side refunded me when I once had a bad bottle, no questions asked. read more

I am very happy as a middle tier wine club member. Out of the 8 bottles I've had delivered only one was just OK--the rest were terrific. It's something I look forward to getting in the mail: four bottles with sheets explaining the origin and history of each wine. This place is top notch and Ithaca is lucky to have this shop. The cider here is fantastic, the ginger-flavored Scottish cider is a personal favorite.

Full disclosure: I didn't actually buy anything so I can't comment on the actual goods. I haven't written many reviews but the crap service inspired me to. I can, however, comment on the service or, in this case, the lack thereof. I recently moved to Ithaca for a job and was exploring the Commons before Christmas when I saw the sign outside that mentioned cider. I thought this place looked fancy and expensive so I walked away, but the sign really made me want cider so I went back. There was a woman behind the register and a man "helping" another customer (the only other one in the store). By helping, I mean they were chit chatting about some random subjects that weren't wine or cider. So I wandered back and forth looking at the incredibly vast selection of ciders (too vast even - probably why I needed help). I kept pacing and trying to decide. I was waiting for an opportunity to ask for help, because neither employee seemed to notice me or they just didn't care and I didn't want to be rude and interrupt the conversation. And the man seemed to be the one who actually knew the product. Three elderly women entered and perused for a minute or two before the man ended his conversation to offer them assistance. I was there for almost 10 minutes and was practically invisible. I'm not sure why I was ignored and they were paid such prompt attention but, in frustration, I decided if I really wanted cider, I would purchase it elsewhere. No desire to patronize a business that probably judged me based on my jacket and young(ish) appearance. read more

I disagree with the price rating, those guys have wine priced for most budgets if you specify. The guy that I usually deal with, Eden, knows my taste and my price range ($10-$20 per bottle) and always give me good recommendations. I'll tell him a general idea of what I'm in the mood for and he'll jump out of his seat and describe 3-4 wines he has personally tried in my price range and he has never disappointed. good selection of local wines and cider but DO NOT try shipping anything from this vendor who will not ship in a timely manner, nor will they provide you with tracking numbers or information or respond to you if you try and follow up. Really frustrating since my money is already spent and I have no idea when (and if) my wine will arrive. ...Even worse, after I posted the review I found out they had not even sent the wine until i called -- no apologies and lied about when the wine shipped.
