I got the "Shrimp & Grits" but my grits were disgusting. If you don't like your grits fried , this place is not for you .

Biff is the best server we've had in a while! His recommendations were spot on. We had the lobster egg rolls with chili Thai sauce... so good! The greens were the best part of the meal! A fantastic departure from a 5 day road trip of fried, southern, biscuited, gravy-laden and heart-attack inducing food. This place is a gem, a diamond even. This food is excellent! If you're not from here FYI there are brothers in this town that own this restaurant & a few others (harvest moon, Henry Campbell).. I personally like all of these restaurants.. but The Catch is PRICEY seafood, but all the food is fresh and AMAZING possibly the BEST meal I've had at a restaurant in Albany Ga. This is my second visit to The Catch. It is probably one of Albany's nicer restaurants. They specialize mainly in seafood and they have a pretty laid back atmosphere especially since everybody was cheering for the Falcons that night. This means that it's a pretty decent place to check a game out as they have a few TVs above their bar, which is pretty large. But I would not come in just to watch a game though. People here tend to dress in dressy casual style. The wait staff is pretty friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and had some pretty good suggestions as well as some good jokes! I decided to go with the tuna served ahi style which was excellent. I absolutely loved the presentation, as it was cut and arranged in a spiral with some seaweed salad in the center as a garnish.....absolutely delicious and cool looking plating. My sides were sauteed vegetables with complimentary hush puppies. The veggies were really tasty and well seasoned and were actually crunchy and not soggy. Perfect! I didn't have a whole hush puppy, but I can tell you that it was really good probably one of the best ones I have had, but I was trying to be healthy so I was nice and gave the rest of mine away. I also had the raw oysters and they were pretty damn good as well. Really fresh and tasty!! But, its really hard to mess up raw oysters unless you have some old ones so whatever. I had their oysters rockefeller and I will have to admit that it was one of the best oysters rockefellers I have ever had. They were delicious! Had cheese, bacon, and scallions as well as some seasonings. The way that the bacon melded with the cheese and the oysters was absolutely divine. I can't wait to go back to try them out once more. Great place always a good crowd there so you know your in the right place! It's cozy with the small quaint fine dining aspect you would want any day of the week you went out on. The staff including management is extremely attentive and always recognizes returning clients! Great wine selection! I love when they have the king crab legs! I picked up food here to eat back in the room since I was swamped with work on my business trip. Food was ready promptly, and when I arrived he hostess re-confirmed what I'd ordered to ensure it was all in the bag. Unfortunately, when I got back to the room, my salad was not included- annoying since everything else I ordered lacked a fresh or green look. I had blackened scallops, shrimp and catfish with a side of roasted potatoes, hush puppied & an appetizer of cup of gumbo. The seafood plate was average- nothing more spectacular that what one would get at Red Lobster. One of my two hushpuppies was overdone, as were the roasted potatoes. The gumbo was quite good but I sure do wish I'd been able to try that salad. The atmosphere in the restaurant was about the best I've seen in Albany (take that as you will) but obviously it was viewed as a nice, fun place to the local patrons who were all dressed up for a nice night out. I will probably give the place another shot since dining places are limited in Albany; overall, if you're eating in Albany then give it a try but don't expect it to be on par with fine dining in other cities. read more

When traveling down to Albany from Atlanta, I always try to go to The Catch. They have excellent seafood and the service is on par with finer restaurants in Atlanta. There aren't a lot of places to get experienced, high-end wait staff in Albany, but they have done a good job of training. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Traditional seafood dishes to innovative dishes. It's the best restaurant in Albany. They have a lively and popular bar where a lot of local professionals like to hang out. This place is hard to describe. When you approach it looks like a fish shack, and I say shack in the purest sense of the word. From the time I opened the bargain basement screen doors I was skeptical. But upon entering the feel was different. To the left it felt like a fish bar and grill with tvs and a bar prominently displayed. To the right it had the feel of a slightly upscale restaurant with well dressed patrons and waiters. The menu pricing also said this place was much more than a casual dining experience. But alas, environment aside, the food is what matters most. And here they performed admirably. The creamy spinach was divine, and the scallops and asparagus was also tasty. The crab cakes could have been a tad more flavorful, but overall it was a nice meal and an establishment worth frequenting. read more

Our first time at The Catch. My husband and I were pleasantly greeted and seated promptly. Kelsey, our server, was incredible! She explained thoroughly when we asked questions. The Catch was recommended by the staff at the Courtyard I stayed at and this did not disappoint. As someone else mentioned, a very nice and pleasant surprise in Albany, GA! Since I was solo I chose to sit at the bar. The staff was attentive, answered all of my questions and gave me plenty of time to make my wine selection and dinner choice. I opted for the creole grouper, blackened with asparagus and mixed veggies. The grouper was cooked perfectly, very moist with just the right amount of sauce and shrimp topped. This dish rivaled anything I have had here in south Florida. The asparagus were good but the mixed vegetables really surprised. I was amazed just how well they were seasoned and cooked just right. I had a glass of cabernet sauvignon named Carr from Napa and felt like it was a perfect complement to my meal. I was quite surprised by a number of the selections on the wine list. Go here, ask some questions about the dishes, and I'll believe you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for solid seafood restaurant with a friendly staff and warm, but rustic ambience then The Catch is your place. We're in town on business and was referred here by an Albany resident and I will say the place didn't disappoint. At our server's recommendation we ordered the shrimp stack, which can best be described as a delicious, deconstructed sushi roll. It was so good I told our server to ask the chef if this could be made into an entree. For my main dish I had a fried shrimp and oyster platter. It was great but I wish I had gone with they signature appetizer called The Catch Signature Oysters, which is broiled oysters on the half shell with panko breadcrumbs, smoked pepper relish, and pepper jack cheese. Sounds like heaven to me so I'll be sure to order it next time. Net-net: of you're ever in Albany and need a place for dinner definitely try The Catch. read more

Went here a ton because of the $4 dozen oysters on Tuesdays. Wasn't blown away by any of the other food I tried, or the service, but overall solid place to eat (especially if you like raw oysters). This is a popular and famous place. Why? Also I do not know who leaves all these positive reviews, fake reviews or if the bar is so low in Albany. All items are over priced, meager quantities. Gumbo is not gumbo but Campbell's soup from wally world. Very nice and friendly service. The Catch is good example why chain restaurants (olive garden etc.) are successful and locally owned places like the Catch are failures. read more

Below average food, insane prices and atrocious service. Sat at the bar for 15 minutes before I finally had to raise my voice to get the waitress's attention to bring me a menu (I thought about walking out), had to raise my voice again 10 minutes later to have her take my order (I really should have walked out) Gumbo came out pretty quickly, only problem is that I ordered chowder. When the chowder came out, it was room temperature and the consistency of slightly too cool mashed potatoes. Had I not waited so long already, I would have sent it back. Very "hammy". Not worth $4, much less the $7 they charged. (Most items on the menu were $20-30) Luckily the oysters were fine, but incredibly small. Sat near the shucker and he gave decent service and was personable. He was the only thing that saved this from being my first ever 1 star review. The cocktail sauce was jelled, in hindsight, I should have asked why. Was that intentional? Weird and not pleasant I would like to tell you that at least they refilled my drink quickly, but I was never asked for a drink order and they never brought me any water. I didn't feel like begging. I came here once before on business and the hushpuppies were so good I couldn't stop thinking about them. The rest of my food was pretty good, but nothing memorable. I'm back in town so decided what the heck, I need some more hushpuppies. I ordered a side of hushpuppies, fried calamari and marbled potatoes. The potatoes are way to peppery, the hushpuppies are burnt and dry. The calamari is slightly decent, but the sauce that comes with it, an aolioli I think, is just not a good complement. $20 down the drain, so disappointed. read more

The CRAB CAKES. OMG. This place is now my favorite restaurant in Albany. Loved everything! Calamari, shrimp, grouper, scallops! The waiter was knowledgeable about the wine selection and how to reheat the leftovers correctly. Decent beer selection for us beer snobs who wouldn't be caught dead drinking Bud Light. Do you know the definition of Insanity? It's when you do or try something over and over and expect different results.... So we must be insane to give this place another try (3rd time). OVERPRICED!!! Marginal Food at best! Great friendly service all 3 times. $167.00 with tip for four. Only two of us ordered entrees and the other two order smaller side dishes. We all had water, and two mix drinks. Hush puppies were dry and cold. (and they weren't even busy) The other two times was just as bad and super expensive. If you want to eat at similar place and the same type of food? But good! Drive to Thomsville and give Jonah's a try We've eating there at least 25 times over the years. The place is packed with customers from Florida on Friday and Saturday.
