Buckeye Veterinary Clinic - My pup, Lucky!

My original vet became disabled and recommended Buckeye to me. At first I was nervous because my…read moreanimals have gone to the same vet since I was a little kid. But then tragedy struck and my cat, Holly, got cancer. Dr. Vega and all of the staff were so supportive through her battle, making sure she got the best care and all the right testing and treatment to give her the best chance and the most life, quality life, she could get. Holly's time came as an emergency on a day that Buckeye was booked solid for surgeries. But they got me in immediately. No one rushed me, everyone spoke quietly and calmly, and my kitty went peacefully. I will always remember this and Dr. Vega will be my vet for the rest of my life.

Later that day she started hacking, they said nothing to worry about, I call back to say it's white foam, message was to be passed, no response before close. Days continue of hacking and no sleep. (Wasnt happening before the visit). I continued to call Tuesday, Wednesday, and Today (Thursday). To be told someone was supposed to call me, they were also supposed to call on a scheduled follow up on Weds but that never came. I have been worried if she was allergic or something was going on from days of panting. What I was told after the 10th call was that she will need to come in for an x-ray.. REALLY?! An X-ray. That couldn't have been communicated days before as I sit around helpless. All these calls are me reaching out to them and 0 calls in return Very upsetting. I've decided to spread my experience on my local FB group (I heart emoji PLX), where I have 3,300 + local members and this experience has already stopped one from scheduling an appointment.

The staff triages ALL incoming pet patients, and the worst cases get seen 1st - as it should be! I took my dog there for a torn-off toenail early afternoon on a Saturday (10/3/26). I knew we weren't a priority case and would probably be waiting a few hours to be seen. We checked in and waited for a vet tech to come talk to us. After the vet tech took our info., we made ourselves comfortable. While we waited, there were vending machines with snacks, free coffee and cold water. The facility was clean and didn't smell like animals were the main clients. They even had a TV playing the Ohio State/Iowa game. Staff was professional but also kind with every member coming over to greet me and my dog, Izzy, as we waited. I watched as other families and dogs/cats came in and were rushed past us to receive critical care. I was so relieved we weren't them but said a little prayer each time for those families and fur babies. It took us 3 hours to be seen but the doctor was kind and knowledgeable and said she was working to get us out of there ASAP. We left with Izzy's foot neatly and securely bandaged, the meds. we needed and the hated 'cone of shame'. Gotta say, one of the best visits to a doggie emergency room ever and I've been to a few in the Akron area in my tiime. Thank You MedVet Akron for taking great care of my Izzy and for your care and professionalism under extremely stressful circumstances.

My gf and I adopted two cats from Paws and Prayers about a month or so ago. The morning after they…read morewere brought home, it was noticed that one of them had a unhealthy-looking booty. We assumed she had impacted anal glands, so she was taken to Primary Pet Care (in Fairlawn) the next day. At first glance, the vet at PPC said that the cat was very sick and she needed to be taken to a full service vet for workup (PPC is a really great place, but they do more routine vet services). The cat was then taken to Visiting Vets, who got her in right away. The cat was severely jaundiced. They ran several tests and observed her overnight. Turns out she had liver failure, and was not going to make it. The day after observation, they said she either had FIP or advanced fatty liver disease - both fatal. I live out of state, so I was not there for this whole ordeal. Fortunately, the staff at VV is so great that my gf was not alone during this whole process. That day, they recommended euthanasia, since the cat could not keep down food and was in a lot of pain. My gf got to spend a lot of time with the cat before the procedure. And during the procedure, they allowed my gf to stay and hold her paw and pet her. The entire staff, including Dr Peckham and the techs and front desk staff, were oh so fabulous. They were very comforting for my gf, and I even got calls from the techs and the vet. But that's not the end. As stated, they didn't know if it was FIP or fatty liver. The former is contagious (well, the coronavirus is... it's complated. Google it, if you really care), whereas fatty liver is not. Because we have other cats, it was important to know if it's FIP or fatty liver disease. Dr Peckham performed an autopsy at no cost and called us to say it was fatty liver, which gave us some peace of mind regarding the health of our other cats. I have no idea how much cat autopsies cost, but I thought it was really sweet of them to do it at no cost - they were concerned that, if it was FIP, there could be serious health issues at the cattery from which our cat came. And that's still not the end. A few days after our cat was laid to sleep, we received a card from VV with handwritten notes from the entire staff and Dr Peckham. It meant so much to us - we still have the card and won't be getting rid of it. And yet, it's still not the end. A week or so later, we received a beautifully wooden box with our cat's ashes in them and her name engraved. Also, there was a nice poem with it as well. To our surprise, we were also given a little cast with our cat's paw prints. We did not know about this last part, and it was such a beautiful surprise. Notably, I don't know how much of this was performed at VV or at their cremation partner (assuming they have one) - either way, it was a huge part of our VV experience. This was our only VV experience, as it's not terribly close to our home. But what an experience. Couldn't be more thankful of the staff and just everything they did for us, medically and otherwise. I give Visiting Vets my strongest recommendation.

It's not just the routine healthcare we appreciate, but it's the difficult issues where we've found comfort in knowing proper, loving care has been administered. Our dog, Jax, was been coming here for years for routine checkups and immunizations, but when it was discovered he had cancer in one of his dew claws, we were grateful that the cancer was skillfully removed with great care. Jax recovered fully. Then when Scout, one of our elderly cats, was so ill that he couldn't go on, the staff made him and us comfortable as we said goodbye to him. Their empathy and final care was so appreciated. And now, Steve, our Turkish Van of 13 years, has become ill and has been seen by both Dr. Ryan Gates and Dr. Eric Allie. I am so grateful to how kind, gentle and patient they were with him on both visits. Both vets were also patient with me, as I had so many questions for them, and they provided answers to everything. My wife and I deeply appreciate this clinic and staff for all they have done for our beloved pets.
