A couple of recent changes... Firstly, they changed their number and secondly, I think they now offer appointments once a week. If I recall, appointments may be made on Wednesdays. This is awesome because otherwise it's first-come-first-serve and can take a long time to get seen. I ordered a refill for my greyhound's anti-inflammatory online and requested it for two hours later. When I arrived it wasn't ready but they quickly prepared it for me. Their rates can not be beat anywhere. The staff are all nice and treat animals with love and care they deserve. They got new seating in the waiting room which are more comfortable. we have spent over $1000 dollars in one week for our animal we needed medication for our puppy after got diarrhea from their vaccinations. We paid for in advance to pick it up we made it back to vet but unfortunately 2 minutes late they were not in their car had just locked the door and and would not go back into the building to give us the medication. We already paid for my husband was reasonably upset & they called the police to call my husband to tell my husband and that we were no longer allowed on their property or in their business and yet they have still not given me my money back for the medication that they didn't even care if our dog needed it or not because it was two minutes outside hours read more

I had my dog put down. Was put in room and procedure explained. They took my dog out of the room to place catheter for euthanasia meds. Brought her back to me and took forever to come back in the room. Which I felt was extremely insensitive. My dog was in so much distress because of her age and confusion. I feel like once the catheter was placed the Dr. should have been available to see her and administer the meds. Instead my baby's last moments were spent severely distressed to the point she was breathing weird and screaming while we waited for the dr to come in. Knowing that was the last feeling she had before passing was extremely upsetting to me. I have seen numerous euthanasia sessions and the meds are gently and slowly administered. This just seemed rushed and harsh and too much for such a small dog. She literally collapsed like she'd been struck by a bullet. Then the second dose was given the same way. The dr. Then listened for heartbeat and told me she passed. Then left the room. I've only seen this dr twice and maybe it's just her natural demeanor but it's certainly not conducive to this type of profession. Her bedside manner is horrible. She's stoic and harsh. I cannot recommend taking your animal here. But maybe she was only like this with me. I don't know. I wish I would have taken my baby somewhere else. Euthanizing a beloved pet is a traumatic event. Dr's should consider that in how they interact with the owners. I felt zero compassion from the Dr. and it made an already upsetting experience even worse. If I had it to do over again I'd definitely go somewhere else. read more

In the course of 6 years I have had 6 appointments at Primary Pet Care...4 at the Fairlawn location and 2 at the Stow location. The appointments were primarily for well visits and vaccinations. In my experience, throughout the 6 years, the front desk, reception, employees have almost always been rude and treated customers with disdain. The main reason I started using Primary Pet Care was due to its policy of having walk-in appointments. Certainly in 2020, I knew that a walk-in appointment would not be possible. I was hoping by 2021 that they would return to walk-in appointments. Instead I discovered that they have decided to change their business policy to never allowing walk-in appointments and clients are now expected to schedule their appointments at least 2-3 weeks out. In addition, they have chosen not to open their lobby. Even in July 2021, you must call or text that you have arrived and then wait in your car until they are ready to admit you into the building. I have been told that once admitted to the exam room, you will be expected to sit in a chair away from the exam table. You will not be permitted to be near your pet while he or she is being examined. When these policies were verified to me by the office manager, Jody, and I expressed my disappointment about several of them, she decided to refuse service for me. When I expressed me surprise, she said that I seem to be very unsatisfied with the organization and she went on to say that I have a history of refusing medicine for my pet. When I asked her what medicine I had supposedly refused, she said that the notes did not provide that information. When I looked back at my past bills, some of them say that I have declined flea/tick prevention (which was because I was providing it myself) and Bordetella (which was because I was not planning on boarding my pet for the next year). I have never thought that Primary Pet Care provided great service. I did think their service was adequate, but what I appreciated the most was the convenience of walk-in appointments and reasonable prices. After the service that I received today, they don't deserve to stay in business! They already have trouble keeping doctors on staff, and, if this is they way that they want to treat their customers, then the Stow location will most likely close just as the Fairlawn location did! read more

I've been coming here for years. I've had no issues till November. I set up an appointment and i left work late so i was late to my appointment. I brought my now senior dog for her shots and concerns. All my concerns she basically just went with what i said what i thought and showed me pricing for biopsy's. In my opinion she didn't do a thorough look at my dog. One of my concerns was that she was in pain sometimes and she said it could be arthritis so i was given medication. A few days later there's a huge mass on my dogs shoulder (it wasn't as noticeable before). I called and left an upset voicemail and said i wanted to have an X-ray done because it looks like her shoulder is dislocated. No one called me back so i just did what the vet said. Few months later my dog is in so much pain trying to walk, she's walking lopsided, and the mass is bigger. I couldn't get her at this vet so i took her to the hospital. They said it could be a tumor and needed X-rays. I couldn't afford it so i was lucky that primary pet care allowed me to drop her off the next day. They found out it's a tumor that grew into her scapula and was going into her lungs. Could be bone cancer. I couldn't afford treatment so they put her on hospice. They gave her a shot and made me buy more pills that i already had. I said i have these pills but they said i should still buy it. I had no time to think if i wanted to put her down or not so i spent the 150$ for the medication. I noticed she had diarrhea from the gabapentin that the hospital already gave me and i told them that. They said it could be stress induced. She's never done that in her life. She has anxiety and has never done that. But they still told me to give it to her and if she continues we can put her on a probiotic. Mind you, the doctor never came out to speak to me. So while my dog is on pain meds, has a tumor, she also had to deal with diarrhea. I know i was only a drop off but finding out my first dog ever has bone cancer and not having the doctor come out to speak to me in person or explain anything or give me time to think about buying the meds since i already had them makes me think they didn't care about my animal at all. Especially since i brought this issue up months ago and no one did anything. I had to put my dog down last night and now i have a shit ton of medicine that i didn't need. I took her back to the hospital to get euthanized because they were at least caring in my situation. The staff were nice that primary pet care but it seems like they don't have enough staff or something to actually provide care. affordable and nice staff but I'll never go back. read more

Pricing here is very affordable. They don't have appointments, so you have to get there and hope for the best.... some times you spend an hour there and others you may spend all morning/afternoon waiting your turn (especially on Saturdays)- at least in my experience. The staff is always very friendly and they are great with my dog who isn't one that warms up to strangers quickly. The care is always amazing and it doesn't lack in any way. Also, a factor I really like is they go over what options are available with the prices and you can chose what you do that day and what you may hold off on. It's the only place I've taken my dog in the last three years that's I've had her. Ps. They aren't a full service vet, so if something is out of their scope they can recommend places around that can help if the situation required it. So far I haven't had this experience but I have heard it being explained to others as I was in the waiting room and even though they couldn't help on site they did want to help find a place that could. read more

This is based off of our last experience. Brought our dog in because she was behind on shots a few weeks. The line was huge which is not s big deal. However, the receptionist was less than helpful. Coming in with two kids and a dog I asked if she knew how long the wait would be roughly. She rudely counted out loud, the number of people ahead of me as if I lacked the ability to see or count. And then told me there at 8 ahead of you so it'll be a while. Great! Thanks. Now that we've moved past basic addition and a witty response I was half tempted to wait but decided against it and bit my tongue as opposed to telling her how rude she was. Instead I went on to ask, is there a better time to come back? Her response, " Probably when it's less crowded." Thank you! This lady should really touch up on her interpersonal skills - stat. I like the vet and the the tech and that's why I returned on a later date without kids. The vet and tech on site are great. The receptionist should look for another career. read more

This review is for both the Fairlawn and Stow Locations, since they're so very similar and I've seen the same veterinarians at both locations. PPC is not a full service animal hospital, so I will not dock stars from my rating just because they're not full service. PPC is a low cost animal hospital for routine visits and non-serious illnesses. If you need a check-up, vaccines, or if your furry friend has a non-serious illness, I strongly recommend PPC. Visits here will cost about half of what they will elsewhere. They do not perform surgeries and I do not believe they have an X Ray machine. But they do perform spays and neuters, which are priced very competitively - I definitely recommend looking at PPC for fixing your cat or dog. Also, I love the vet techs at PPC. They're so friendly and really take the time to answer questions and make sure everything is clear. However, if your cat or dog is very sick, you may want to choose a full service animal hospital, such as Visiting Vets, Metropolitan Animal Hospital, or Stow Kent Animal Hospital. Notably, one time, we brought our cat to PPC and she ended up being seriously ill, which we did not know at the time - and PPC did not charge us for the visit. They saw she was gravely ill and said "go to an emergency vet right now." I thought that reflected their sincere caring for animals, rather than "we can't do anything for her. Go to a full service vet, and you owe us $25." Based on their signs, I think they only treat cats and dogs. So if you have a different animal, you may want to call first or look elsewhere. One last thing: they are not by appointment - they are walk-in only. This can be convenient or a pain in the butt. It's typically not been an issue, but there has been one or two times where I ended up waiting almost an hour (out of several visits, so it was not the norm). Also, they don't open very early nor are they open very late, which can be a challenge with work schedules. If you need to get your cat or dog vaccinated, checked-out for minor problems, tested, fixed, or anything else rather routine, PPC will save you a good amount of money while providing high quality service. Went to have a cat checked out for a goopy eye. Their solution was to have a tooth pulled. When I got to the oral specialist the next week, the swelling was still there. But he didn't have a tooth there to pull. In fact he had lost all of his top teeth on the side of the swelling. And the hundreds they wanted me to invest in having his teeth cleaned? The specialist popped the tartar off with her fingernail. Not to mention I waited three hours to see the vet who spent less than two minutes looking at the cat. read more

I took all 3 of my dogs to the Fairlawn, OH location because I was worried about kennel cough. We were 45 minutes late being seen, and the staff vaccinated my male Rot for Rabies and DAPP without asking me and despite the fact that he had the Rabies tag on his collar at the time of the visit. They told me that they don't check for tags on the collars, they rely on verbal communication!?!? They are the ones that hand out the tags when you get vaccinated! They refunded the price of the shots, but not the price of the "exam" that was so thorough that they didn't check his tags... read more

Yes it is a walk in clinic no appointment and yes you will have to wait but anywhere you go with an appointment you have to wait so why not save some money and come here. I have a 15 month old Bengal named "Malachi", I thought he had ear mites from being in a new home. Thankfully he did not. I was most impressed with the vet tech named "Unique", she was very thorough and explained in great detail the climate change etc was more than likely the culprit. It was also sweet to see all the employees come in to see our pure bred Bengal. He was well loved. Being that I am new to this area from Lakewood, Ohio; I would typically take him to his private vet, however they were extremely professional and EXTREMELY affordable. I left with a $78 vet bill today that included 2 microscopic tests, the visit and ear cleaning solution. Just as we were about to leave, they also gave a us a free one time treatment for flea, mites etc. which I thought was a nice touch. I am sold on Primary Pet Care for the future. Don't waste your time. I made an appointment a month ago for blood work. I called to confirm the appointment the day before the scheduled visit. I drove 30 minutes to get there and checked in at the door when I arrived. I was told to wait in the car. I can't say enough great things about Primary Pet Care, I love their staff & I love their prices! This is the place to go if you are on a budget or a really tight schedule and need basic vaccinations or basic care. Although I also love Memorial Animal Hospital, I had been going there 1 to 2 times per month in hopes of getting rid of a continuous ear infection issue my pitt had. Of course they charged me for every single visit & meds that only got rid of the problem for a week or two but didn't prevent it from reoccurring. I had discussed changing to a grain-free diet with them but was told that wasn't the cause. I decided to stop second guessing myself, I work in the vet field but my "work" experiences have been horrific! So thanks to multiple toxic environments, I second guess myself & have no confidence in my knowledge/skills. Yet Primary didn't make me feel stupid when I suggested changing Destiny's diet to them. I explained why I felt this was the right choice & asked for their input- not only was I correct but they helped me find the right type of grain-free food (nothing with chicken for anyone in the same boat! It night say grain-free but chickens eat grain so it needs to be salmon or lamb!!!) Thanks to them & the process of elimination, I'm saving hundreds that I was wasting at Memorial. Do NOT waste time coming here if your pet is in need of serious care. This vet has primary in its name for a reason, and only offers checkups / spay and neuter. I took my cat there and was not informed until after i sat in the waiting room for a half an hour that they could not give her xrays or a diagnosis, and told me i had to go to the animal hospital down the road. I ended up paying $70 for an emergency appointment and put my kitty down the next day. So please only invest money in a vet that has xrays and is able to give a diagnosis if your pet is in a bad condition. Affordable but to a certain extent. read more

I am from Pittsburgh but I currently live in Kent,OH. I really didn't know where to take my puppy Layla, but my brother recommended this place highly. I was unsure because I heard "cost effective, first-come first-served", I was expecting to get what I paid for. So I took my pup there who I had just rescued and trust me she needed "The Works". From fleas to tapeworms to skin mites, etc they took care of EVERYTHING! I was excpecting a bill of atleast $500 and it wasn't even half of that. I take my puppy here now for everything, and it's great that you don't need an appointment. As a first time dog owner, a lot of this is confusing at times, however the vet and staff here are so friendly they are willing to take the time and walk the owner thru everything and actually explain, not just give you biology topics to google when you get home. I took two dogs for vaccine updates. I was worried that there would be some hidden fee and/or the care would be lacking. I was very pleasantly surprised. NO HIDDEN COST and the CARE WAS OUTSTANDING. Everyone was polite and helpful. The bonus was my bill was slightly over a 100 for two dogs to be completely vaccinated and heart worm testing for both. The preventative visit cost was $18 instead of the $60 our previous vet charges. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this vet! I will be taking my babies back here!!! My dad took our 3 year old Rottweiler Brooke to be spayed, we were told she was ready to come home so we picked her up, she was unable to walk and was very stumbly they said it was from the meds we get her home she lays down and literally wouldn't move within a few hrs we decided to rush her to metro where they told us she was bleeding internally and she had to be put down. Brooke was not just any dog she was my dads best friend, she loved everyone and every animal, we once had a stray cat have kittens in the garage and Brooke layed with those kittens and loved on them, I foster and i brought in a litter of puppies there mom was hit by a car and brooke mothered those puppies like her own even tho we had to bottle feed them she did everything else, Brooke loved to chase a lazer light and would push herself into you to get love, she is now gone at such a young age and the heart break my family feels right now not having her here there are no words! The last place I called the receptionist was nice enough to refer me to PPC. I went right at 3 o'clock and was seen immediately. The Doctor and staff we so professional, caring, compassionate & loving to my baby. He was very scared and nervous and they made him feel very secure. Since we are on a tight budget, I was so thrilled to learn that there was a low-cost vet in our area. I used them to have my Sheprador spayed and microchipped, and with both the required pre-surgery check and actual surgery, cost was under $200. The first time we went, on the recommended "slower" time of Tuesday morning for the exam, the wait was about 40 minutes. When you have a large, enthusiastic young pup like I do, it might have been better for me to wait with her in the car and ask one of the vet techs to give me a wave when we were "up". I had to pass by a lady with 2 large dogs of her own. The pathway was very tight and if one of the dogs had decided to spaz out, things could have gotten very serious really fast. The surgery itself is in the back of the building. I had to go there to pay in advance and make the appointment as well as drop my dog off and pick her up. Everyone we met was very nice and very friendly with both my dog and me. I am keeping my regular vet on board, but for yearly shots and exams for a young, healthy dog, the price can't be beat. read more

Just took my 6yr old Pomeranian in today for the first time at Primary Pet Care. The Staff is kind and knowledgeable. The vet aids and vet were so kind and so sweet to my dog. The Professionalism is Top Notch. I would Recommend them to any pet. I have gone to another vet in the past and spent a small mint and didn't have my dog treated as wonderful as this clinic did. That is saying something! Not always is the Most money the Best! If you keep in mind there are very long wait times. You will be pleased you waited and that your animal got treated like family. If you don't want to wait inside you can wait outside or in your car and they will come get you when they are ready for you! What other vets do that? I can only speak to the Stow location but I can't say enough about their willingness to help! I have only had one "bad" experience here and I can't say with any certainty that it was their fault that the end result wasn't good. But I have called at a time when my 16 yr old cat was having a serious issue and it was determined to be cancer. The decision was made to be a loving owner and end her suffering. The Dr was caring and compassionate and reassured me many times that I was doing what was best and showing her mercy. Anyone with a pet that they have had for almost its entire life knows the pain and utter devastation involved in making this decision! I also knew someone who had a small pet that was nearing the end of its life but was essentially suffering. I called and for a small fee, they agreed to end its suffering. It ended up passing on its own, but that was not a cat or dog and they were willing to help! Proof that the animal is the main concern! Thanks for all you do!! read more
