I have been taking my dog here for 12 1/2 out of her soon to be 13 years of life. She was recently in on Monday for a vertigo episode and prescribed trazadone. Later that day she started hacking, they said nothing to worry about, I call back to say it's white foam, message was to be passed, no response before close. Days continue of hacking and no sleep. (Wasnt happening before the visit). I continued to call Tuesday, Wednesday, and Today (Thursday). To be told someone was supposed to call me, they were also supposed to call on a scheduled follow up on Weds but that never came. I have been worried if she was allergic or something was going on from days of panting. What I was told after the 10th call was that she will need to come in for an x-ray.. REALLY?! An X-ray. That couldn't have been communicated days before as I sit around helpless. All these calls are me reaching out to them and 0 calls in return Very upsetting. I've decided to spread my experience on my local FB group (I heart emoji PLX), where I have 3,300 + local members and this experience has already stopped one from scheduling an appointment. read more

Where do I begin, I truly cannot sing their praises enough. Everyone in the office has been amazing, I know I'm omitting names and I'm sorry but Kait, Liv, and Sam have been angels. Dr Faulkner has truly taken care of all of our babies and most recently our old girl who had a bout of cancer. They're so accommodating and kind and helpful taking the time to address any concerns and help our baby in any way they can. So grateful we were able to find such a great veterinarian and clinic staff. Even just cute little extras to make us smile and feel more at ease with the entire process. I'd been going to a nearby veterinary hospital in South Akron for many years because of their alleged bargain prices and multi-generational years of experience. When my 12+ year old doggo stopped eating, and no appointments were available, I was forced out of my mediocre comfort zone into trying to find another urgent care vet. This is now the only place I will ever go. I didn't realize how UN-compassionate, un-bargain, and unsanitary the former vet was until I came here on one of the saddest days of my life. The facility is quaint, clean, and just has that cozy feeling. I didn't get the outcome I was praying for that day, but I met the best veterinarian in the world, so that's something to write about. Dr Cummings and her staff helped me make the hard choice a lot more bearable, and was more affordable than expected for a new patient and many, many hours spent in a tear soaked exam room past closing time. read more

My original vet became disabled and recommended Buckeye to me. At first I was nervous because my animals have gone to the same vet since I was a little kid. But then tragedy struck and my cat, Holly, got cancer. Dr. Vega and all of the staff were so supportive through her battle, making sure she got the best care and all the right testing and treatment to give her the best chance and the most life, quality life, she could get. Holly's time came as an emergency on a day that Buckeye was booked solid for surgeries. But they got me in immediately. No one rushed me, everyone spoke quietly and calmly, and my kitty went peacefully. I will always remember this and Dr. Vega will be my vet for the rest of my life. read more

I used to think this was the best but now I find them going a bit downhill. The meds charges ar high. I can get them through chewy much cheaper through their pharmacy. Their overall prices are high compared to 2 of my friends who took their dogs to other vets. Now, they are stopping Saturday appointments which always was a good time for me with work schedule. The staff used to more friendly, I don't know if they they have turned over staff but I have not seen the lady who used the word kiddo and was so sweet, and a few others. Maybe they are on different time schedule but I have been there a lot and I would think I would have seen them and have not. This new staff is not as loving to the animals but more clinical. Overall, I see a big decline from what they use to be which was the top of the line. read more

This place is amazing! My 6yr old dog was going back and forth the Vet in Avon Lake for a month and was told he just has anal gland issues. I moved to Portage Lakes when all this was going on. I was referred to Buckeye.. 1 visit they knew something wasn't right because all of his Lymph Nodes were swollen. We found out he has Lymphoma Cancer! I'm so thankful to the staff and Dr. Vega for their patience with us and take their time with us. Any time we call and have concerns they give us answers on the spot. If anyone ever asks what Vet to go to this is the place! read more

I've been a customer at Buckeye Vet for over 10 years .Very happy with the service ,Never had a balance! *Until today ! I have a new puppy and I scheduled a appointment in August ,I got sick and had to cancel, *I rescheduled on 9/19/2023 ,I called the Day before cause it was weekend to tell them I had Covid and was sorry I had to reschedule and ,They weren't happy! *I as well as my 2 boys have Covid. And I couldn't get my puppy to them (Didn't want them to be exposed) So I was TOLD that from now on I am have to put a deposit down if I want to schedule a appointment I've been with them for approx. 10 years that they lost 6 appointment because ,I canceled! She was very as a mater of fact! its not like I had a habit of canceling.( Example if I was to put a deposit down and got covid I would have lost my deposit for something I had no control over)! And I called the day before to cancel ,BUT how was I to know I was going to get Covid. I AM VERY UPSET! ,the person I talked to was not very nice ! So after deep consideration I will NOT be going back nor Family member's , I hope they are nice to other sick people ! read more

Dr. Cummings is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. I always feel like she truly cares about my four-legged children. She provides super detailed information about my dog's condition and even prints out the written information with pictures in color, which is greatly appreciated. Having been a pet parent for more than 20 years, I find that many vets speak in jargon and it is not always easy to understand everything they say, but Dr. Cummings takes more than enough time to explain what we need to know in plain English. One minor complaint: The staff did not inform us when Dr. Cummings was not available and they had us meet with a different vet for a follow-up visit. As a result, we had to come back for another visit and have an additional exam, which cost us more time and money than necessary. It would be appreciated if they could ask their clients in advance if it'd be okay to see a different vet. read more

I chose Buckeye Vet from Yelp reviews, and it was a great decision! My cat is super chill every time we go and always loves getting attention from the vet techs. I was able to get all of his kitten shots easily, and they took the time to answer all my dumb first time cat owner questions. Also super easy to get to from pretty much anywhere so I don't have to hear cat crying for more than 15 minutes one way. read more

Every time I take my dogs to Buckeye Veterinary Clinic I always feel like they're in the best care. I never feel rushed through appointments or the staff is bothered when I ask questions. The staff is very knowledgeable and comforting. I drive 30 minutes to Buckeye because the staff always impresses me with their compassion and care. Somethings are a little more expensive to have done at Buckeye, but I don't believe they hike up the prices to make a dollar of the costumers. I truly feel Buckeye is dedicated to provided the best, safest, and comfortable care for animals. Sometimes that means overnight stays, check-up appointments, etc. I've always been given two payment options..the expensive and cheapest option. It always makes me laugh when Buckeye calls and asks for Nacho's or Pinto's mom. Yup, that's me! read more

Friendly staff! Two reasons I gave the 3 stars...when I first took my brand new puppy there they gave me this pamphlet about new puppies and different training techniques. I thought that was really nice but then I got home and looked at my receipt and they ended up charging me $7 for that piece of paper!!...KEEP TRACK OF YOUR DOGS MEDICAL RECORDS!! I took my dog there to get her second dose of heart worm medication and then they told me she also needed a rabies shot, i told them she already had her rabies shot, with them about a month prior! I had given them her medical record paper and it said she already had a rabies shot. So make sure you pay close attention to details like that because they don't! read more

I took my cat here after not being to the vet in 6 years (shame on me). I appreciated that they didn't make me feel bad or guilty about this because I was already feeling guilty about it from myself. Very friendly, gave me lots of good information including what to keep an eye out for as my cat gets older and they were happy to answer questions I had. Cat wasn't happy to be there but he wasn't "scarred" by the experience, as soon as we were home he was acting just as he normally would (which wasn't the case when he was younger). Unfortunately most of my friends in the area don't live close but I recommend Buckeye Vet anyway in case they're willing to do the drive! read more

I used to love this place, but lately there have been too many mix ups and mistakes on their part. Seems lack of communication between staff members and staff either not bothering to read charts and records or not bothering to record properly. Last summer they almost killed my cousins dog by giving it a pill to prevent ticks from biting after giving her a heart worm shot. The two do not go together. Luckily the dog was fine. They said our basset has heart worms even though she has no outwards signs and x-rays were clear, they pushed for the aggressive and more dangerous treatment plan (also more expensive) we did our homework and told them we wanted a simpler treatment plan that is also less dangerous to our dog. We had an appointment which they canceled saying they needed our girl all day. My husband asked them three times were they sure they needed her all day, because the treatment plan we were using did not call for that, each time he was told yes, they needed her all day. Well my husband took her in this morning at 8 waited 45 minutes only to be told by the vet that, oops they had made a mistake and they did not need her all day, oh and by the way the medication she needs was not in but he could come back later to pick it up it should be in by closing. He was late to work all because someone did not bother to either read the chart or update the chart. But that's alright, just come back later to pick up the medication because we don't have that either? That should have been in last week! Don't get me started on them sending home heart worm pills for our collie that have Ivermectin in them. They claim they are safe for collies, but breeders and other vets say no. That the toxin builds in the collies brain over time and will cause seizures or death. In the past they have always given her the Ivermectin free heart worm preventative, we are not comfortable giving her the heart worm preventative with Ivermectin in it, but they do not care and did not offer an alternative. read more

Dr. Cummings is wonderful and the reason I kept returning. Unfortunately, I started being scheduled to Dr. Banta who, not only told, me my (at the time) 12 year old cat had no hope and would be better off euthanized, but also, told my my kitten didn't have ear issues despite her constantly pawing at it right in front of him. I received a second opinion on both cats. Dr. Banta told the vet I was going to for the second opinion that my cat was in terrible condition. The new vet was pleased to see my cat active and bird watching out the window in the exam room. My 12 year old cat will be turning 14 this year. So much for a lost cause. My kitten had a sinus infection that antibiotics cleared up. She hasn't had an issue with her ears since. As much as I liked Dr. Cummings, it's not worth the risk of getting paired with the other "doctor". I won't be returning. read more
