This is a gem in the schoharie valley. Farm grown vegetables, a beautiful garden center and a cafe with delicious savory and sweet options. There's even gift shopping throughout the store. Prices are reasonable and the food all delicious!! Worth the trip. read more

After a picturesque drive down 88 and a short distance off the exit we arrived at The Carrot Barn. There was plenty of parking. The inside is so adorable, it's a mixture of grocery store, retail store and dinner all in one. They have a really nice selection of local food and other goods. We were hungry so we headed straight to the back to the food counter. The menu is not overwhelming and has so many great lunch options. We decided to split the chicken salad sandwich, tuna wrap and clam chowder. I will be going back very soon to have the chicken salad and clam chowder! The chicken salad is chunky on delicious bread. The clam chowder is a thin broth with chunks of potato and clams, it may be the best chowder iv had. The backed goods case was calling my name and the store clerk recommended the carrot chocolate chip cookie, it was fluffy and delicious. On the way out we picked up a bag of carrots that we roasted at home. 11 out of 10 recommend this place. read more

Our favorite place for apple cider donuts, and are quite said when they stop making them from Memorial Day to Labor Day- when it's too hot. They are light, crispy and just the right sugar. They have wonderful baked goods and excellent produce! They also have beautiful plants they grow in the summer and fall, and currently have wreaths, Christmas trees and Christmas balls! Definitely worth the trip! read more

I always stop here for veggies, fruits, and milk and I always come home with something extra. Everything's so beautiful and great quality. I've never tried the deli portion-but it looks great! Been going here for ages. Recently ended up in a pickle in the parking lot of the Carrot Barn and the owner and and his son were so awesome and did assist my mom and I that day. It is so important to support local businesses if we had our issue at a big box store I know they would have left us hanging. Forever customers of this establishment! read more

Perfect stop after hiking. Parking lot is sketchy not paved and very packed so careful backing up! There is a market inside with home goods gifts produce fridges with cheeses ans sauces and freezers with cuts of meat. Don't pass on dessert. We shared a cider donut and lemon blueberry cheesecake. I also had a cup of spicy red chili and the crossaint apple and turkey sammy. The cranberry Mayo is divine. Kudos to the staff as she recommended the croissant and cheesecake! We also bought a gallon of apple cider but the price was steep. Outdoor seating is plenty but stuffy as this is a covered greenhouse type setting . read more

Unassuming place which is more of a barn than restaurant but a cute place nonetheless. You can eat your food in the greenhouse at the tables that are seemingly placed haphazardly around the place. Large portions and tasty food. read more

I have to stop in for their Tomato cucumber cheddar sandwich when in the area... one of my favorites. All the other ones we have tried over the years are excellent, as well as the apple cider donuts and cup cakes (my wife). Other veggies and stuff are fresh but a bit pricey in some places. read more

Personal service above and beyond. They go the extra mile and made a home delivery!!!

Love this place, but the bakery is going downhill - sadly. Specifically the cookies and brownies. Nothing is fresh anymore. The cookies crumble in your hand. Sizing is no longer consistent. I hate to have to write this, but every time we stop, we hope for the best and our hopes get dashed again. It is almost as if they are baked then frozen and thawed when needed. I should take a picture of my dried out fudge brownie with the old look to the chocolate of the brownie and flaking all over. Nothing is moist anymore. If you read this Carrot Varn, please take a long hard look at the bakery. Maybe try a mystery shopper & see for yourself. The rest of the establishment is still wonderful. read more

Great selection of fruits and vegetables. Also baked goods and sandwiches. Friendly employees and nice atmosphere.

This is a nice spot to meet friends for lunch! It is my regular pit stop as I make my way through the Schoharie valley!

As part of our desire to try cider doughnuts in new locations, we thought a nice sunny Fall day called out for a drive to the Carrot Barn since their doughnuts were rated the highest on a recent "4th annual tour de donut" conducted by the FUSSYlittleBLOG. These donuts are very good and I would have no problem recommending them. They had a good crust on the outside and a goodly amount of sugar. There was an ample amount of apple flavor along with other spices that were reminiscent of pumpkin pie. The texture was not too heavy but was more cake-like. There was no taste of oil. Overall, good enough that I ate two in the car before we left. The Carrot Barn has much, much more than just donuts. There are plenty of vegetables and fruit grown in the Schoharie Valley. We picked up some sweet potatoes that look nothing like what you find in the big grocery stores. We haven't tried them yet, but I'm looking forward to doing that. They also have a few tables where you can sit and have a sandwich or other items. read more

my mom and I were looking for a day trip from Saratoga Springs and I had read about this area. It was about 40-45 minutes away and a pretty fall drive. This spot is a barn that sells fresh produce and other grocery items that also has a bakery and cafe. The apple cider donuts were terrific and super popular. We stopped for a donut, then went to do some sightseeing, and came back for lunch.... along with everyone else. I was shocked by how crowded it was. Luckily, the line moved along and we didn't have to wait extra long for our food. We were also able to get a table. The food was worth the wait! My mom got the turkey apple salad and I got the sandwich version. Both tasted fresh and had a good balance of ingredients. The menu had enough of a variety that I think most people could find something they enjoyed. Definitely a place I'd return and I want to try some of the desserts like the donut bread pudding when I do. So nice to find a local place with quality food to support! read more

This is a great spot to grab lunch, some baked goods, and pick up produce and flowers. I had lunch with friends here. I had a croissant with turkey, apple, and brie. It was so fresh and yummy. My friends were also really happy with their meals. One of my friends is a local and she said that the quality is consistently good. The ordering/receiving of food can be a little long, but it's because they're not just giving you something premade. I appreciated the soda choices, but overall drink selection was a bit sparse. There were some tasty chip choices too, a tempting add-on while you wait. If you're going by Schoharie, this is definitely a sweet spot to stop. read more

Great, unique place! Part grocery store, part farm stand, part country store, part restaurant! Lots of deli-style options: soups, salads, and sandwiches. Also a TON of dessert options. Definitely a family owned/run place. Pictures all over the place and an overall homey feel. I tried the Chicken Caesar Pita and a bunch of desserts. Everything was delish! I love that many of the ingredients they use are grown right outside. And I think a lot of the meats are from local farms as well. Nice fruits & veggies. Good selection of frozen items. The potion & lotions smell old. Cafe fare is very good but fillings are on the sparse side. Long wait. Still worth it. Cake we purchased was way too sweet & had an off flavor. Had to throw out. Not as good as it once was. read more

When visiting in the area, The Carrot Barn is my go to for a very satisfying lunch. The relaxed atmosphere, good food and welcoming service make it a no brainer. Yep...those cider donuts were truly good, lacking only the oily film left in your mouth after eating these sweet morsels. These were great. The home accessories were morbidly overpriced, but added to the country farm atmosphere. There were quite a few non-local products here, from Maine actually. More high-priced fluff. With plenty of locally produced similar stuff that's available in this great area, steer clear of these...go local. The produce was abundant...apples, pumpkins, leafy greens, cauliflower, potatoes, all for sale. We filled our basket, and topped it off with pressed apple cider to sip warm that night. We stopped here in the fall, but will have to visit again during the summer, as I'm sure it's a different experience. Take a moment to go inside. read more

I really love this place. You can shop for produce, plants, flowers, but also have a nice lunch, latte, and absolutely delicious sweets. Only drawback is staff being a little cold and clipped (maybe they're just busy all the time) and just be sure you're buying local. It it's not in season or has a sticker like a local market, ask! Super place to go for lunch. Would love to see a salad with feta, nuts, and berries! Their house dressing is divine and the small piece of fresh bread is a nice little extra, but it IS really small. Perfect for me though. Definitely something not to miss if in the area. read more

This is a very nicely run local farm business and we love to patronize. I have given up on buying pre-potted plants and instead grow my own from seed, because I keep getting PLASTIC pots which crack easily and then often can't be recycled. I was SO happy to see that I could treat myself to a mum because they did NOT use a plastic pot. It is a beautiful mum. I have also enjoyed really delicious sandwiches here in the past. Thank you Carrot Barn for recognizing the harm plastic is doing to our world! read more

Great spot for lunch, they have tasty sandwiches. Fresh produce and local products! Delicious fresh corn in the summer!

Visiting Schoharie County in the autumn has become one of my absolute favorite activities in recent years. The short drive from Albany reveals pockets of small-town life, breathtaking views of the mountains, and a host of farm-led businesses. And while the area boasts several quality farm-stands and shops, The Carrot Barn strikes the perfect balance, making it the best. At it's core, The Carrot Barn is a farmer's market. Fueled by the diverse crops cultivated by the nearby Schoharie Valley Farms, The Carrot Barn offers a truly beautiful selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants. There is something oddly comforting about purchasing produce coated with specks of dirt, realizing that what you are holding in your hand came directly from our earth. Beyond the fresh fruits and vegetables, you'll find locally produced meats, cheeses, and yogurts. The Carrot Barn's selection of pumpkins, gourds, and other autumnal specialties stands alone in terms of selection and quality. If you're in the mood for a quick bite, The Carrot Barn has you covered. The shop offers a small seating area and a menu of quality sandwiches, soups, salads, and quiche. You're not going to find gourmet style items here, just simple comfort foods done exceptionally well. After lunch, it is essential that you pick up plenty of sweets from the on-site bakery. I'm probably like you - when the autumn hits, all you can think of is apple cider donuts. And while The Carrot Barn offers freshly made donuts, the carrot cookies are the main attraction. Most recently, the bakery offered carrot cookies in the varieties of chocolate chip, oatmeal walnut, and, my absolute favorite, coated in standard white icing. Without question, the carrot cookie with icing is among the best baked goods in the Capital Region and truly one of my all time favorite treats. If I could give the Carrot Barn more than five stars, I would. There is just something about this place. Perhaps it is the magic of autumn or the fresh mountain air, but there is an intangible quality about The Carrot Barn that makes it a truly wonderful operation. read more

I'm into it. Nice gift shop combined with a really good bakery and it's an OK lunch destination, too. The gift shop section has a really nice variety of stuff. A lot of places in this area are a bit too kitschy for me, but Carrot Barn has a good mix of interesting stuff and surprisingly extensive choices of sauces and the like. Some really naughty candy items as well as a great, fresh produce section, too. My life partner and I had a quick lunch here after we did a bit of shopping: An unremarkable Chicken pesto sandwich, followed by two delicious apple cider donuts. They seem to put a lot of emphasis on the bakery while the main food items are just OK. All in all a great stop if you are in the area and my favorite gift shop in this region. read more

We stopped here on a whim after visiting the Native American museum and what a surprise and delight! Huge selection of Stonewall Kitchen jams, sauces and lotions, plus their lotions and soaps. The veggie selection was vast and varied, we bought a lot of items here. The cafe looked amazing with the fancy desserts, meats, soups, coffee. I was impressed to hear that "The Carrot Barn" is a throwback to when the farm supplied carrots to baby food producer Beechnut. Beechnut eventually left the area so Schoharie Farms had to change and diversify to stay afloat. I would say they've done a marvelous job, and this market can be a destination on its own, but couple it with the caves and the Iroquois Indian Museum and you have a whole afternoon. Glad we stopped; this place lives up to the hype. read more

such a cool local market and lunch spot. every state has a carrot barn type place but we've never come across one that had the feel of the carrot barn. whether it was a mix of where its at, the crisp cool weather, the fall leaves, along with local food,... i wish non locals could experience this even just once. aside from the killer chili and sandwich, theres no one that can touch new york when it comes to apple cider donuts. we've tried them in oak glen and julian california. something about the look, texture and taste of an apple cider donut in upstate ny that no one can get close to. read more
