Gentlemen: We have a summer home in the Newfound Lake area, but travel to Plymouth, quite often,…read morefor various reasons. In the past, whenever we needed anything related to windows, glass doors, leaking window frames, and so forth, we have tried other contractors but have always used Granite State Glass (aka GSG), to the present spring, 2019. Granite is probably the largest business in NH devoted to all types of glass/window/door problems, and they really know their business. They have numerous locations, all over New England, especially NH, and they operate a very dependable, reliable and respectable business. This past winter, one of the windows in our condo sprung a leak, and we tried several contractors via HomeAdvisor, on their websites. We have also worked with Angie's List and had been paying member dues for years but that now stopped.
However, both of these services list, by and large, individual contractors, rather than firms such as GSG. We have tried such contractors, and too often, found them lacking in comparison to GSG, how so? GSG is a big business with offices all around NH, and they employ the very best experts in the glass business, as well as very accessible home offices, such as in Plymouth. They are responsible as a real business, there are office staff to coordinate visits, as well as very knowledgeable staff and technical consultants who can determine the real problem in your house/condo. You are dealing with a really, reputable and responsible firm in GSG, rather than a single individual/contractor who will promise the world, and then (too often) deliver nothing or less than expected, by and large. In dealing with with individual contractors, too often promise to start the work next week, and then you will never hear from them again or be able to download their, supposed reviews on HomeAdvisor or Angie's List. Or, they will refuse to provide a written proposal and estimate of costs before starting any work. Why would you deal with such, private contractors with no footprint or storefront? Deal with a real business, with years of experience, several sites of operation, and a team of professionals who are always there to answer the phone and explain the status of your work needs. Remember, you get what you pay for and if you are not willing to pay a bit more than with a typical, private contractor, then you will get less in service and the work needed than otherwise. These people will do everything, humanly possible to get your work done asap, at a reasonable price, and they will really solve the problem because they know their business like few others. They are true professionals in the glass, service business.
Sorry for the length, I don't write reviews often but GSG is really a gem of a business. You should try them first, forget about HomeServe and their, private contractors, who will lead you around in circles to no good end? Thanks for reading.
