Staff in there seem to be knowledgeable about a) the phones, b) the network, and c) Orange itself. C is probably the most important as it allows them to know how to sort out any problems that you may have with registering the phone, and what they need to do should they get kicked off the call to register a handset. As with most phone stores a big problem is when you are trying to buy something and you've got a few people in front of you who are asking for advice or trying to do something particularly complicated. Its always worth having a look in there if you are after a specific handset as they often do exclusive deals on some handsets.

My mum was asked to be Godmother for a friends daughter and the christening was arranged shortly…read moreafterwards which didn't leave much time to find a suitable outfit. After trailing around the shops in Birmingham, it became apparent that shopping for a suitable yet stylish outfit for a Godmother to be was not going to be an easy task with such short notice. Too small, too big, not smart enough, the list goes on! It was coming to the end of the day and we needed to buy an outfit. We opted for a skirt suit, the skirt fitted perfectly but the jacket didn't look as fitted as it could. We found Karlus' website online and made an appointment. He was really helpful and made my mum feel at ease. His attention to detail was perfect and my mum looked great on the photos. We have a wedding coming up and will definitely be using him again in the future.

He s recently moved to a swanky new studio on Vyse st above a jewellery shop. I usually make a trip with some random vintage dress I've bought that doesn't fit or occasionally with my favourite pieces that are now too big for me ( I've been shrinking a bit recently). Karlus listens intently to what I need and always delivers the dress improvements to deadline, sometimes staying late so I can pop in on my way home from work. He tailored a beautiful vintage suit that my other half found in a vintage barn and it now fits him perfectly...not bad for £30 charge. I couldn't recommend him enough and he ll be tailoring the other halves wedding suit and my mum s dress for our summer wedding!

Cirrus are very, very good at what they do i.e. getting people to part with their cash in exchange…read morefor diamonds. When I got engaged, a colleague in the Jewellery Quarter recommended Cirrus to me as she got her engagement ring from there and was full of praise for them. When I visited them, they were very busy - which, again, can be taken as a good sign, but I felt a slight whiff of the factory-production line about the whole thing: the staff were clearly well-trained to meet and greet, say all the right things and Bobs your uncle, you're £1,000 lighter in the pocket. They were very informative, however, and I felt like I received a free crash course in diamonds: clarity, carat, cut etc etc. Their prices were a bit steeper than other, smaller places that I then went and visited, so I'm quite pleased I shopped around afterwards. They do know their stuff and they are extremely good at sales, but I would recommend shopping around a bit with other jewellers before you part with your hard-earned cash.

Perhaps it was my own fault to take my then-fiancée with me to a jeweller, instead of picking out something myself. She made trying before buying into an art form and, while I love you, dear, it was, ahem, very trying. They were the most un-boy hours of all time. But as soon as we visited Cirrus, everything seemed to click into place. It's a diamond vendor first, and while complete rings are available, it's really about picking out a stone as an initial step. The staff were patient, helpful, appreciative of the emotional and financial leaps being made and had an eye-twinkle to match the diamonds. It really felt like a personal service, complete with a call they'd promised to let me know when the finished product was ready. It was all turned round quickly and available for collection when they said it would be. Best of all, through sheer experience, the staff had been able to glimpse something hitherto only perceivable in my now-wife's subjective and, at least to me, unknowable, mind's eye. Top marks, well, four stars... but only because, you know, I could have bought a huge telly instead. I forgive them, though. Just.

For those unfamiliar, it's a bit like Cash Converters but focuses mostly on DVDs, computer games, mobile phones and other small electro-gadgets (iPods etc.) For those unfamiliar with Cash Converters, CeX is basically a great shop rammed full of cheap, pre-owned DVDs etc. There's loads of bargains to be had, such as series (I try not to say 'season', damn Americanisms!) box sets of things like 24 and Family Guy for between £6 and a tenner. I'm pathalogically bad at computer games that came out after Donkey Kong 64, so I couldn't tell you much about what games they've got, but there's a lot of them. The selection of films they stock, considering they're all pre-owned is vast - everything from blockbusters to obscurities. There's also a membership scheme in the form of a small key fob which lets you exchange goods. Before this place there was practically nowhere to buy DVDs in West Brom, certainly nowhere dedicated. Now all it needs is a bookshop and a proper record shop.
