Tuna poke bowl
Leslie V.

Great outdoor seating and very casual vibe. Loads of drink choices and unique canned beer selection. The clam dip with chips is tasty. The tuna poke bowl is visually appealing and delicious. The oyster are just the right size and cold and fresh. This was a good experience.

Stopped in for a quick bite without checking the Yelp reviews first, which I usually always do. We sat outside and the view of Provincetown Harbor was absolutely amazing. There's plenty of seating, both shaded and in the sun, which made for a really nice atmosphere. The food was average overall and seemed more pre-made than homemade or gourmet. The classic margarita was on the smaller side and a bit too sour for my taste. The classic mojito, on the other hand, was refreshing with plenty of mint and quite good, though not exceptional. What really stands out here is the atmosphere it's the main reason to visit. The staff was also very accommodating and friendly, which added to the experience.

The Canteen just may be my favorite place for drinks and food on the Cape. On a nice day it literally can't be beat. The vibes are off the charts, the food is impeccable, the drinks are strong. I dream of their frose all year. I enjoy the semi self service. Order the food at the counter, get your drinks at the bar, they bring the food to you, and you clear your own table. This makes it easy to hang out for a long time or just a quick bite. Food always comes out fast and fresh! We went twice this year and tried something different from the menu each time. Their play on a poke bowl blew my mind. It's definitely big enough to share and loaded with fish and delicious veggie salads. If you're craving something fresh and nutritious AND delicious then definitely get this!! Can't wait till next year...

Davenport oysters

Great casual dinner or lunch! The oysters were very fresh and I recommend the Davenport oysters, which had a delicious and bright yuzu vinaigrette, fried garlic, and minced cucumbers. They were so good I returned the next day. The green curry lobster roll was tasty but could've used more curry sauce. Cocktails were also quite good. Gets crowded so I def recommend sending a person to snag a table. Also a little hack to order at the bar instead of the front counter since there's usually much shorter line.

it's a cute restaurant with a variety of menu offerings for everyone. i really liked that they had several vegan and vegetarian items to choose from - it doesn't feel like an afterthought. their staff was also friendly! i ordered the veg fritter sandwich which is HUGE and sooo delicious. very flavorful and filling! my boyfriend loved the fried oysters over fries - they fried perfectly; golden and crispy. we loved getting to find outside on the beach on a beautiful, sunny day. it made everything that much more delicious!

This spot is one of my favorites and I visit each year! Love that the seating area expanded since last June and really added to the fun vibe! The food has already been great, but the lobster grilled cheese was the BEST!

We had the best lobster rolls here! The canteen has a lot to offer, so come here for lunch or dinner. There is seating out front, but the best seating is in the back. Behind the building is a large area with multiple seating options. You are almost on the water too.

Very nice ambiance in the back with a view on the water and coastal decoration. Food was good and well priced. Quality of the bread on the sandwich was a little basic but the fish was very good quality.

Lobster roll warm

We were here off season, and just after Halloween, so you could tell everyone was tired, and things were moving slow. We checked yelp to find a place with oysters, they do not have them, tho the menu pics said they did. When I asked I got a "no we don't." The lobster roll was good, we had it warm, but it needed more salt or some hot sauce. Something. We also got cauliflower fritters, I would skip those, we ate half of one. The outside bar area is wonderful, great views. Inside of the shop is super cute. The food was just mid, and the hospitality chilly.

Came here for a quick dinner when we arrived. It's a bit chaotic with people bringing out your orders but a fun beach environment with actual sand in the back. We got the pickleback oysters, which were fine, but I wouldn't recommend over regular oysters. But I had never seen them before so I had to try. We also got the crab sandwiches which were really tasty. The bread was so soft and pillowy and perfectly toasted. Overall, a great place to stop in for a quick dinner!

First time trying and this place was great. There was a long line at first but the staff was super nice and showed us the menu, then took our order while we sat out back near the water. The atmosphere was great. The lobster roll looked really good, but i ordered off their oktoberfest menu and it was also amazing.

Oysters

Pickleback oysters were delicious. The lobster roll was meaty and buttery. The star of the show were the fish and chips the batter on the fish was flaky and the fish was moist. The service is quick and the ambiance is the view you get of the beach when you sit outside.

Clam strips and fries

The Canteen is a must if you're in the area! We came for the seafood and left seriously impressed. The lobster rolls were fresh and flavorful--perfectly buttery with generous chunks of lobster--and the clam strips were crispy, tender, and not greasy at all. Service was friendly and fast, and everyone made us feel right at home. Special shoutout to the bartender, who poured some seriously strong drinks (in the best way possible). Combine all of that with a gorgeous view and you've got the kind of place you want to keep coming back to. Pro tip: I highly recommend getting there around 11:30 or noon to beat the crowd. By 1 p.m., there was a line out the door! Highly recommend for a casual but top-quality seafood spot with a chill vibe.

I usually pick up a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie because hello it's delish and a bargain at $2.50, today I grabbed a turkey club to fuel my shopping. It was so good, they roast the turkey so it's top notch. I've been stopping through this wonderful business for more years than I'd like to mention! Like I mentioned at the beginning it's my GO TO en route out of town. The vibe is always chill and the chairs are comfy. I wish I took a picture but alas I didn't was getting outta town before the change over crowd arrived.

I did not go from the bar to the market). There's limited parking right along the side of the market. There's other parking in that gravel lot on the left side, but that's a paid day parking lot. The gentleman working actually let me park for a hot minute since I was just running in and out. Small market but has seating at the front if you'd like to dine in. So here's the deal for my anxiety ridden friends: - If you want a sandwich, walk in to where you see the chalk boards with the sandwich selections and there's an Order Here spot on the left. Order your sandwich and they give you a buzzer that will tell you when your sandwich is ready and receipt to take to the front. - Now you can (or prior to ordering) gather all your other goods. There's prepackaged foods/meals right next to the sandwich area. In the back is more beer/wine and other eats. - Once you grab everything you want, go to the front and pay. They'll give you a receipt to use to pick up your sandwich. Buzzer goes off, you go get the sandwich w buzzer and receipt - they put it on the counter below the sandwich chalk boards and give buzzer back. - There are napkins, condiments and utensils in the middle you can grab as well. I went during the cuff of off season, so it wasn't too crazy in there, but during on season - I'm sure it can be crazy since it's smaller. So hopefully the ordering instructions help. Oh. And sandwich was bomb. Grabbed a bag of pickle chips too and pasta salad. It was definitely the right choice.

Next, we shared the Cape Cod Fish Fry and it was perfect. The fish was fresh and the batter was crisp but not greasy. It was possibly the best mixed fried seafood plate I've had so far. I also had a glass of white wine, which was good. The bartender was attentive and nice. The interior was cool and cozy. I would definitely return to this place.

EXTREMELY DISTURBING EXPERIENCE WITH THE WAITER!…read more This took place around 9:00 PM on Thursday, June 4. Our group consisted of three couples dining together. At the end of the meal, we asked if the bill could be split into thirds. Our waiter, Martin P., told us that he would not split the check and instead instructed us to write down exactly what each person ordered so that he could charge us separately. Although no other restaurant we visited in Provincetown required us to do this, we followed his instructions and listed our individual items. When Martin returned, he was visibly upset and stated that our payments were approximately $70 short. There was confusion because our group was trying to determine who had already paid, who had not, and whether something had been missed in the calculations. I even asked whether we were expected to calculate individual tax amounts ourselves, as no one knew what tax would be for each separate charge. Rather than calmly helping us resolve the discrepancy, Martin began yelling at our group. At one point he stated, "If I don't get $70, I am going to charge one of the credit cards that I have." This immediately concerned us. We were not refusing to pay. We were actively trying to understand where the discrepancy occurred and make sure the restaurant received the full amount owed. To resolve the issue, one of my friends and I went with Martin into a back room to review the charges. After reviewing everything, my friend agreed to pay the remaining balance immediately. The payment was processed and the bill was fully paid. At that point I was trying to calm the situation and bring it to a close. Instead, Martin became even more agitated and began yelling profanities at us. He shouted, "Get the f*** out of my restaurant! It's people like you why we don't split checks! You all need to get the f*** out now!" Other people started noticing this go down. We were stunned. The bill had been paid. Nobody was attempting to leave without paying. We were simply trying to resolve a billing issue after following the waiter's instructions. As we were leaving, my wife later told me that Martin placed his HAND ON HER BACK and guided her toward the exit. While it was not forceful, it felt unnecessary and added to an already hostile and intimidating experience. What happened next is why I ultimately decided to write this review. A few days later, while walking through Provincetown looking for a place to have lunch, our group passed The Mayflower Food & Drink and noticed Martin working there. When he saw us, he deliberately tapped on the glass to get our attention. After making eye contact, he made a hand gesture across his neck and pointed for us to leave and keep walking. The original incident had already ended. The bill had been paid. Yet days later he still felt the need to single out our group and signal that we were unwelcome. Had this simply been confusion over a split check, I would not be writing this review. Billing mistakes happen. What I cannot overlook is being threatened with unauthorized credit card charges, being screamed at with profanity while attempting to resolve the issue, being ordered out after the bill had been paid, Martin touching my wife, and then encountering the same employee days later making a gesture directed at our group from another restaurant. This experience was troubling enough that I believe others should be aware of it.

We've never had a bad meal here....everything is always great; food, service, drinks are all terrific. Usually, I'll have one of their signature cocktails (although this year I just had ginger ale) and cheesy garlic bread is always a must. I have been in a rut the past few years ordering the chicken parm but it's soooo good and also the portion is gigantic so I take half of it home for lunch the next day. The desserts are always a treat. This year we had the chocolate bomb, key lime pie and turtle cheesecake. They were all winners but the turtle cheesecake took the gold medal. It honestly felt like an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. It took over 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive, and during that time, no one came by to refill our coffee or water. The service felt aloof and inattentive, and management never came over to acknowledge the excessive wait or address the situation. The only explanation we received was that they were busy. We certainly understand that restaurants can get overwhelmed during peak times, but being busy shouldn't mean that basic service and communication disappear. Overall, it was a very disappointing breakfast experience.
