Love love love. I…read moream a sweet tooth freak. I love this store and have since the first time I went into it. The store is so colorful and clean. It's fun to be in and has a neat atmosphere. The store has great coloring and wonderful signage that is clear and easy to understand. Today the store was everything it always is with Halloween decorations all over it. They had Halloween candy, balloons, and even a spider hanging on a clear line in the doorway (to imitate a real spider on its web). They had a great deal with a Chinese take out box style candy deal that was Halloween themed. The deal allows you to get about 1/2 pound of candy of your choosing in a cool Halloween box with chopsticks for 5.00. The store is always so clean with fresh candy and sweets. Candy in clean bins with shiny clean scoopers and fresh scents. To be honest it's like being in willy Wonka land. The only thing missing is the Oompa Loompas and the chocolate river. The staff is friendly and kind and full of personality and always willing to talk to you about life and their interests and anything else. Today's girls were friendly and one was a griffindor Harry Potter fan. So exciting to learn about the employees and see smiling people willing to help you. Have fun in candy land.

Directly facing Mesilla Plaza, I was interested enough passing by to stop in. There was one person…read moreworking the counter at the store. She didn't greet us, which could be reasonable, but we were literally the only people there, and we were obviously tourists. I had a lot of questions about the products, but the worker was not friendly and I didn't want to interrupt her phone scrolling. There was an empty sample tray and it would have been nice to sample products since I was hoping to buy some food souvenirs to take home for friends and family, but I passed on it since I wasn't sure if they would be good. I got the jalapeno pecan brittle, green chile pecans, and the red chile pecans. The red chile pecans were smokey like a paprika and the heat builds gradually, and there's more dusting of the powder compared to the green chile. The green chile tastes like green chile. They're both fairly mild. The jalapeno pecan brittle is hot and sweet, with the flavors complementing each other. I wouldn't get it again but it was good to try it. The pecans were good quality, with whole halves in the pecan bags, but they didn't have that fresh crunchy texture of super-fresh pecans. I would go to a friendlier shop to buy your pecan products if you're not from the area.

The shop was really fun and bright, neatly organized and chock full of everything pecan, from brittle (soft and crunchy at the same time - very delicious and very unique), chocolate-covered varieties, shelled varieties, pecan coffee, etc. We picked up a couple of items for ourselves and some to take home as gifts. The ladies in the shop were super friendly, encouraging us to take lots of samples and wander around freely. I was also really fascinated by the video they had playing in the store that showed the process of harvesting pecans - there's a special machine that shakes the tree and all the pecans fall down to the ground. How cool! So not only a tasty stop but educational too. Highly recommend.

I have to admit, shopping in Mesilla is like putting a bulls-eye on your back that reads, "tourist"…read moreor "lame." It's a bulls-eye I don't mind wearing when I get to visit Las Cruces, because I LOVE Old Mesilla. Having always managed to date boys who cannot stop torturing their tongues with the hottest chile around, I've visited plenty of stores that sell all sorts of the hot stuff. That's why I have a soft spot in my heart for Solamente. It's a little off the square, by El Patio. There you can find regular chile powder -- both red and green -- chile jellies, chile peanut brittle, pickled quail eggs (which have already been requested as a Christmas gift), raspberry chipotle sauce, garlic salsa, chile-shaped kitchenware....you get the picture. It's always nice to go in, try out some of the sample salsa, and walk away with a bag full of something really tasy! Oh, the magic of New Mexico! If you ever need a hankering for some kind of chile, you can bet your arse you'll find just what you are looking for.

I LOVE green chile and found a jar of delicious green chile salsa. Then - there was the sample of popcorn with green chile seasoning salt on it that was so good, I probably had 37 handfuls. The woman who owns the store is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. She taught my mom about the green chili and gave us recipes too A must as this is probably the only gourmet food store in the area. Located on the old Mesilla square which has lots of gift shops nearby as well.
