I am so happy to be moving out of this place after 2 years. One of the worst complexes I have ever lived in. Maintenance orders take forever to get completed, and when they do the jobs they are done poorly or not completed. Example. The bathroom sink was leaking out the bottom. Took over a week for them to get to it. Then after they fixed it, it started leaking again. Waited another 2 weeks for them to come back. This time they put in a new sink. Never finished caulking around the sink though. There is black mold forming on the bathroom ceilings. Was already there when I moved in. Appliances are out dated, and anything replaced is cheap. Yesterday I got home from work to find a bunch of cat litter and cat poop right outside the entrance door to our building unit. Someone's trash bag ripped and decided not to clean it up. Called the office. They said they knew and put in a WORK ORDER!! Went to work this morning and the litter and crap is still there. I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. Someone should have been sent to clean it up, not a work order. The outside lighting is horrible and gives the community an unsafe feeling. There are also vehicles sitting around the lots that have not moved in 8 months and no one has been in them. There is a car with a broken out window and no license plate, yet still sits there. Guessing most likely stolen vehicles that just get dumped, cause in Springfield stealing cars seems to be the cool thing to do. Management at this establishment has let this complex turn to crap the past couple years. Back in the day it may have been a pretty nice complex. But now it is overpriced and ran down. read more

The pictures speak for themselves. This place is absolutely disgusting. But that's not entirely why I'm leaving this review. Instead, I'm leaving it because I was just reported to collections by Chatham Hills without any prior notice in the mail for $1,500 in fees from moving out. They took the opportunity to replace absolutely everything in the apartment and ran with it. New carpet, drip pans, etc. I find it absurd that as a company they lack the integrity to take responsibility for the obvious structural shortcomings and fix up the apartment themselves. Instead, they took advantage of a previous tenant by sending them straight to collections to renovate the apartment. Do not live here under any circumstances. You as a human being deserve to live in a place that isn't infested to this degree. Also, give your rent money to a company with integrity and not people that are going to take advantage of you. read more

If I could give zero stars I certainly would. This apartment complexes office staff has poor communication and instead of emailing me with final amount owed on a unit that we had to leave from to move back across the country due to a family emergency they mailed a letter which I never received then proceeded to send us to collection!! I was waiting on a response via email and that never came. We left the apartment in great condition and never once was late on paying our rent the entire time we lived there. I'm absolutely disgusted with this and wouldn't recommend renting from them or any of their properties. Plus they didn't inform us of the fact that they have to spray continuously for bed bugs in their units!! Luckily we didn't have any in ours but that is so disgusting. read more

We've had nothing but issues with Candles. During our lease, we had several issues with vandalization of vehicles, harassment in the building by neighbors, neighbors intentionally being destructive with the shared laundry units, hornets were always by the entrances in any heat, the smells in the apartment were god awful consistently, infestations, repeated ding-dong ditch incidents in the middle of the night, and the toilet in the bathroom was sagging into the floor. The rooms were not insulated well, the pipes made the water taste very metallic, the bathroom floor tiles were sinking inward and squishy upon moving in, the toilet didn't flush in one of the two bathrooms, and the building construction was very thin. You would hear slamming doors, knocking, running around, and people talking at all hours from any room in the apartment. We were told that all carpets are shampooed by a professional after each resident moves, but when I moved in there was a ton of African American hair in all of the carpets. Only one person was African American who was living in our home and they were only there half of the time. There's no way that hair could've been hers. I vacuumed daily in that apartment with a roomba and I also did shampoo the carpets twice due to infestations. Even after over 20 hours of vacuuming, we were still picking up hair that wasn't ours. Nothing was done about any of it. But the one time that neighbors reported us over a lie to Candles, we were immediately contacted regarding the issue. We repeatedly reported one family over the course of a year. We were told there was no documentation (at the end of our lease) regarding any of these reports. On top of all that stress, the final bill cost has changed now three times, from owing them money to us being owed money. I have videos of the apartment when we moved out, but they are saying the place wasn't clean. This has been an overwhelmingly horrible experience and I would not recommend living here to anyone. read more

One of their tenants runs a restaurant and he did not give good service. I asked repeatedly for a refill and he gave me no such thing and then flipped me the bird. He doesnt have a name for the establishment atm but it's in his apartment and i did not appreciate this behavior and I will not be returning. read more

Absolutely horrible. Washer and dryers never work and were set up years ago by a company that went out of buisness so theres no one to fix them. Kathy, the property manager, is very unprofessional and will go to any and all lengths to fee you. In fact all of the maintenance and leasing office workers are extremely rude and uncaring about your living conditions. I know the website makes it very enticing and the low rates and really appealing but please, if you respect youself and care about your living conditions DO NOT MOVE HERE. read more

Horrible experience one of the worst first thing this was my first apartment that I shared with a roommate as exciting as I was I never thought to review this this apartment complex and whoooo On the first day we viewed the house they showed us a deck out large 2 bed room 2 bath it was gorgeous to say the least and me and m roommate was SOLD so that next month over we sign a lease stating we was getting that apartment that was showed to us and to our surprise after the lease was sign that gave us a small apartment nothing was amazing about this apartment no glass mirrors on closet door which they said every unit has room was super small etc.. We go back to the office to tell them that not the correct one and the building manger as rude as he can be say there nothing he can do and the lease was already sign not the mention if we break the least it $4000 plus 12 whole moths pays So fine to the fact my roommate had no other place to move into we unpack our stuff and tried to make the best out the situation....... I wish we would of payed attention to the sign god was trying to give us In our contract/leasing agreement Orkin was suppose to come to our house twice a month and spray for bug, mice etc I live in this apartment complex for a whole I probably seen them all of 5 times not to mention maintenance no work order we put in never got took care off after days of calling and them telling us no work ever was never made we always had to personally go to the office and put a order that wouldn't get fix until days later They where super mean and rude to our guest during the summer you can invite people over to swim we allowed 2 guest per tenet me and roommate had all of 3 people and they question use made us come to the office to verify that we lived but not 2 days later the building manger thought himself a pool party and trust me it was more than 2 people Whatever we kept clam and push on until we seen our first mice my roommate see one put she said it ran into our fireplace and we never thought about it again until one day we was sitting in out living room and a mice ran into out hallway closet never been in this type of environment it freaked us out to the point we both left the house that night we called the office the next morning and he simply said what do you want us to do about it wait what so we took our personal money and bought traps remind y'all we pay a bill every month through Chatham that supposed to pay Orkin to spray and not to mention $640 in rent So mean time the apartment above us had some water damage and it damage our bathe ceiling and my roommate ceiling and when maintenance came in and look at it they said the only thing they can do is paint over it WAIT WHAT not to mention is had black mold all on it Over the last 3 month September to November we cause 7 mice found rat poo EVERYWHERE through out the house we told them we wanted out the building manger said welp I guess we will see you in court cause they said we never gave them a 60 day notice not to mention our house in good conditions despite all maintenance errors and they said they not giving us or deposit back and we NEVER broke the lease read more

I've never written an online review but when I saw the negative comments regarding CH on here, I felt compelled to give my two cents. I moved into a 3 bedroom apartment here in September, 2017. It's a really adorable space- the master bedroom is like a little suite with its own closet and bathroom. Very cute, new carpeting, etc. Anyway, a few weeks after I moved in, I came across a roach in my bathroom that scared the heck out of me- and totally surprised me because the leasing office had notified me twice in the short time I'd lived here to expect exterminators because the whole building was being treated. Despite what seemed like an unusual number of "treatments" by the exterminator, I saw 1 more roach about 3 months later and when the exterminator guy came I asked him how that was possible given the vigilance of the treatments. According to him, the cleanliness of my neighbors had a significant impact on his ability to keep my place insect free, and apparently, there was a population of folks at CH who didn't see roaches as a major problem. He seemed to think it might be a cultural difference but I have no idea. Anyway, it's the strict fining of those people that pay for the exterminator to treat my place so often. So the super nice folks who lived in the apartment just next door to me recently moved out and the place has basically been under construction. Apparently they left it in really bad shape and it had a nasty roach infestation. I'm sure they will be charged for the damage and looking at some of the reviews of CH online, this accountability and the fact that the tenants probably had to pay for a lot of anti-roach treatments for the whole building, may have something to do with the negative online feedback. I've lived in several different apartments over the years, mostly in Chicago, and have not had a more pleasant experience anywhere. The maintenance crew is fantastic and I've had nothing but positive experiences with the leasing office folks. So I suppose if you want to maintain a nasty infestation without the office bothering you, CH is not the easiest place to live. But if you're like me and want to live in a clean place with responsive staff, you'll seriously love it here. read more

Money hungry..... That's all I have to say!!! They charged us 800 when we moved out for carpet. I asked why they said because the carpet in the back room in front of the door was ripped up. I saodnya but it doesn't cost 800 to replace carpet. She said well you can't have new carpet in one room and not all the others that doesn't make since. Its legal for us to do that. Then we paid rent got a three day eviction notice and we went in they said we didn't pay rent I said yes we did we wrote a check like all the other 10 months we have been here.... Well they misplaced the check and found it in the ladies desk.... They still made us pay a 30 dollar fee to deliver the eviction to our door AND a late fee charge when. it wasn't even pur fault our rent was late the dumb lady left it in her desk read more

I should have known from day 1 -do not sign! This was a 1 yr lease for me until I found a house - a LONG year! They show you the display apartment which is NOTHING like what you will be living in. DEFINATELY ask to see an actual apartment!! I bet they won't allow it. You can not paint the walls, put holes in them, change curtains etc... without repercussions from the "Management". They will charge you for any & ALL tiny things they can find. After buying a house & buying out their lease, I had to get my attorney to fight back with them on all of their bogus "charges & fees"....yes, guess who won? You have to fight back!! There are plenty of other non-commercial, smaller outfits in town - I highly suggest you rent one of them. You get treated better, pay less, and get better quality. The property is becoming very run down. The carpet, windows, balconies, garages, equipment in the rec center, etc... are all in very bad need of attention. For the amount of money collected in all of their "charges, fees" and the amount of rent you pay, one would think it would be of better quality. read more

I would have given 0 star as well if possible, I have lived in many places and cities and this is by far the worst apartment complex and the worst management I have lived under. I lived at 1 Candlelight for three years, during a month period, there was a mice infestation, when I saw a total of about 10 mice and one was even trapped in the wall. I wanted to report it to public health but decided not to just go through with it because I did not want to move during my work year, the washer and dryer that is shared does not work most of the time, there were many bugs in the apartment, the list goes on. But when I left this place they literally squeezed me out of every single dollar that they could. They are money hungry with no empathy, I wish I could have sued them in retrospect. My apartment and this neighborhood is awesome! I like everyone who works here and my apartment is really nice! They have awesome get togethers every month that is free. I have a 2 bedroom and it's really nice because I don't want to share a bathroom and I don't have to! I use to live in a 1 bedroom but I wanted to say money and it worked out perfect. I couldn't wait to move back. I always get any work that needs to be done completed. The guys are really nice and I can trust them to be in there while I'm at work. I also feel really safe walking around at night. It's a great area and close to the mall! I have always and continue to have a great experience here. I looked around at other places and this apartment is the best! I have never had fees or anything but I do always pay my rent on time. I would recommend it to anyone. read more

So Bad! Don't even think of signing! I lived there for 2 years, I wanted to move out the day I moved in but i was too busy to move again. The carpet, kitchen, windows are horrible. The carpet was full of stains when we moved in and when I called the office they told me " put a mat to cover them" WHAT?! You pay for everything even trash. There was a hole in the wall next to the window that I had to cover with tape!!! They once charged me for delay in payment although my payment was on time, apparently they didnt process it!!! And now after I moved out they sent me a bill of 1,277 dollar for carpet changing!! WHAT!! And when I called them to tell them that the carpet was so bad when I moved in they said " the bill is final" how worse can things be?! A lot of indian student prefer to stay in these apartments and these racist chatham hills management try to loot money out of these students in the most unethical way possible.They don't even know what business ethics are in-fact. Though University housing was expensive compared to Chatham Hills , i still preferred to move there because i wanted to stay with some self respect and these chatham hills management doesn't know how to treat a good customer. The buildings smell like weed and ammonia. Can't wash clothes there due to strong smells in hall. They bate and switch, but you don't know it until after you sign papers and they lead you elsewhere. When you try to argue that you did not agree to this one, they state that you signed the documents now you're fully responsible for the rest of your lease. The staff will walk into your unit without you knowing, and it can be caught on camera. read more

This apartment offers furnished apartments, this was the selling factor for us. They truly care about the people who live here and their happiness. The staff was very friendly and would do anything and everything to help you. There were some down sides to this apartment but the good things very much out weighed the bad. read more

Idk why there are so many negative reviews. . . Personally, I never paid late and took good care of my apartment and never had any problems. The complex is clean overall and all of my neighbors were always pretty nice. Maintenance team was the bomb. Whenever we had an issue they always were really quick to fix it and the problem didn't occur again. Staff was really friendly and threw parties for the residents that were pretty cool. The amenities were always really cool! The recently renovated them and all the equipment in the fitness center is brand new. As far as apartments go, I'd say this one is really nice. You just have to pay on time and not trash your apartment. read more

When I first contacted them I requested a one bedroom. On the day of my move in the apartment was on the first floor which was in the basement. It was dark and gloomy and barely any lights. In my apartment were dead bugs everywhere , it smell like smoke , we found the place had mold and it look like someone had tried to break in the front door. Every day I went back to the office to check for a new apartment. After a week I guess they got tired of me asking and told me there was a newer two bedroom apartment . After I went and looked at it I came back to the office and told her I would take it. I tell everyone who looks into this apartment to request for the newer apartments. The newer apartments are better and nicer . Less noise and less problem. Oh and pray your neighbors are nice and understanding . My current neighbor blast her music all day and night and is very loud but yet complains about being able to hear me on the phone or that my vacumm is to loud read more

I have been here for over a year and have had a nice time. I was worried about getting an apartment with a balcony since I have a pet ferret but the balcony is very well built and the walls are about chest high so even a big dog could sit out on the balcony. When I signed up my ferret was happily welcomed on the lease when other places said I could not have him. Not only was he allowed but I wasn't even charged a pet fee for him! The people here are very nice. I love my apartment, the living room is huge for a one bedroom apartment and the bathroom has a large closet for all my towels. The apartment comes with a dishwasher and microwave which was great for me since it means I didn't have to go out and buy them myself. This is by far the best apartment complex I've ever lived in. read more

If I could give these apartments a lower review, I would. From day ONE I had problems. I was told that the utilities were included and I would only had to pay for electricity...well, guess what? Yeah, it was included because they charged you for it!! I was told my pet fee would be returned by the end of the year which was total bull. I had mentioned to the girl who used to work at Disney World (she wouldn't stop talking about it) that I could get rid of my pet and she said that I didn't have to because I would get the $200 deposit back. I lived on the 3rd floor and had to put up with my neighbor's dog peeing all over the hallway and especially right on my front door because of my cat. I notified the landlord and they didn't do anything. I even spoke to the lady that cleans the buildings and was told that she was just told to febreeze the place. It stunk all the time. Don't get me started on the heat and air conditioner. It was like a frigging sauna in the master bedroom and the Artic in the winter. I had to sleep in a different part of the house while I had the heater AND portable heater next to me. I called 7 times for them to come and fix the problem and the only thing they guys did was adjust the vents. Seriously?? The vents were not the problem...it's the entire duct system they have doesn't work. It's like 50 years old! My electric bill was more than $500 per month, which NEVER in my life have I ever had to pay while living in an apartment. It was ridiculous. The funny part is when I told the office of the situation for the last time, the lady said that I needed to get more fans or mini heaters for my house because they couldn't fix the problem. Really? There were ALWAYS people yelling outside like at 1-3 AM. Always. I was billed for extra charges for 4 months and EVERY SINGLE TIME I had asked for the breakdown of how these charges were accrued they couldn't provide that to me. Yet, when I moved out, the charges were on my $500+ bill they sent me. For removing one bag of supposed trash they charged me $50!! Wtf?? I left the apt spotless, except the kitchen needed to be swept. That's it. They charged me for every supposed ding. The gym machines don't work. I'm a runner so I would check every day. All their equipment is dangerous to work with, their weights are a hazard and I'm surprised that they are not fined for the lack of attention of that place. Also, they give you a key...which you really don't need because their security system doesn't even work. One final thing, the wall in the master bedroom would move with the wind. Yeah, it sounded like the wall was breaking and there was already small crack on the ceiling. Wouldn't be surprised if they charge me for that, too. Seriously, WORST MISTAKE moving there. read more

Seemed alright at first. Maintenance was quick to respond when we needed them but after the 10th time our toilets randomly over flowed on their own, it was getting old. Had to keep a tupperware bowl in our fridge because the freezer was ALWAYS leaking no matter how many times we defrost it. The people above us had a dog that barked all night, they would also let the dog pee on their balcony and they would just wash it down with water, which then splashed into our living room windows. (We've complained about all of these things by the way) Also, the windows leaked. We have never once been late on a months rent, I moved back to Chicago before the last months rent was due, and my room mate went on vacation. I had problems signing into their website to pay the last months rent, got that straightened out over the phone with Val and Nicole (I think her name was)... PAID THE RENT next thing I know I'm told that I have $80 in late fees charged up. Well. A - thanks for calling me. Oh, you didn't. I called you because the payment still hadn't gone through. B - I have never once been late, I obviously was trying to pay it that day - its a complete mistake is there anything we can do to get rid of these late charges? Nope. Not a way to keep customers. I'll be sure to let the 100 incoming students know of my experience and of cheaper places that they can live that are probably a lot nicer. read more

My mom lived in these apartments for almost a year and a half. I told her before she moved in there were better in town, but she went ahead and moved there anyway. To start they charge you for every little thing - EVEN GARBAGE and WATER is separate! WTF?!? They were relatively prompt with maintenance, but these are some old apartments. The ceiling of her unit was covered with dust and soot but it is popcorn so really no way to clean it (but paining would have helped!). The hallways are weirdly set up with storage closets jutting out and the laundry in the hall. My mom had a police officer living above her, so no MAJOR problems in her building. She had a person living below that SCREAMED at her kids daily (funny, I never heard the kids at all). Doing the stomp on the floor didn't seem to deter her. Still, mom put up with it (and she should be wearing hearing aids, so that says something). She signed the lease for the second year, they wouldn't let her do a month to month after the first year without jacking her rent to the sky. THEN they started to move in a lot of 'questionable' people. Loud soccer games right outside her window on the lawn by the pool. I had to break up a fight between school kids from her window. Parking was a joke most evenings, get there early or you're hiking to your door. At least the place is well lit and they did keep the snow from piling up. If you're just here for a contract and someone else is paying your rent, then it's not bad I suppose. But if you are looking for somewhere to LIVE for a while, this may not be the place for you. read more

I'm new to town and they have given me tips about places around town to go to. I just had to call for a beeping smoke detector and maintenance was over that day to replace it. I initially hesitated to write a review, but if I can prevent one person from having the experience I did, it will be worth it. I am not local and my employer in Florida would be arranging my housing so we relied on online reviews. There were some problem reviews online, but they were all a few years old and "pre-renovation". I was there for a few hours 4/11/14. It was a 12 week lease. The pro's (before I actually moved in) were that they do short term leases and allow pets. I'm a travel nurse and do short contracts across the country and my pets travel with me. They charged me $300 per dog and $200 for my cat pet fee (nonrefundable). The leasing agent left a candle warmer with wax in it so upon entering the apartment, it smelled good. I'm not sure what the exact rent was because my company arranges housing, but from online searches, it appeared reasonable. The day I arrived, a Friday close to closing time, no one did a walk through with me. The door directly across the hall from me had been broken into and reinforced with a piece of scrap wood and some screws. The doors coming into the building do not lock, so anyone can enter the building. The hallways are poorly lit and smell moldy. The main traffic area of the living/dining area had dark red streaks on it. (I cannot say with certainty, but it appeared to me that someone was bleeding and trailed it) I unloaded my belongings and before I unpacked anything I started seeing roaches. Upon closer inspection, there were roach "shells" of various sizes in the bathroom, evidencing that this is not a new problem. I gently put a piece of tape over one so that they would have something to identify. I have never lived with a roach infestation and did not want my belongings infested, so I repacked the car, went to a hotel, and contacted my company. While I was repacking my car, a vehicle came, a resident came out, handed the person something, the driver handed the resident something, and the resident returned to the building and the car left. I cannot say with any certainty what the exchange was, but the way it appeared made me uneasy. I returned to the leasing office Saturday morning and was told the person who I needed to talk to would not be in until Monday and that my company (the leaseholder) would need to call. So far, my experience was awful, but the way management handled it is what made it truly horrible. On Monday, the (the day I started my new job), they denied knowing there was an infestation problem. They told my company that they went in and found no evidence of roaches. I went there after work and they REFUSED to go into the apartment with me so I could show them the carcasses on the bathroom floor. The piece of tape was still exactly where I put it. They also told my company that they would NOT let them out of the lease and that my $800 pet fee would not be returned because the pets were on the lease. It did not matter that they were only in the apartment for a couple of hours. Throughout the next week, we went back and forth between me, my company, and leasing management. There was no way I was going to live there, but the burden of proof was on ME. They went in and sprayed. They continued to refuse to let my company out of the lease even though this was an existing problem long before I moved in and they did not disclose it prior to the signing of the lease. In talking about my housing nightmare of roaches and unsafe conditions with new coworkers, they were not surprised and said that Chatham Hills has a terrible reputation in the community. I was told that years ago it was a decent place to live, but has since become known for rodents, roaches, and low income housing. I relayed this information to my company, but with Chatham Hills denying it, and no current online reviews, I had no proof. (Thus the reason for a current review) In the end, my options were to back in to that apartment or move into another one they had available. I returned to inspect the apartment and it had clearly been sprayed and the carpet shampooed. I photographed some of the dead roaches and sent the photos to my company rep. I saw the other apartment. The door across the hall from that apartment had also been damaged, and the apartment itself had a chemical odor. (I cannot say with certainty, but my best guess is that it was bombed so there would not be roaches when I viewed it.) In my research, I found that if a building is infested with roaches, it is very difficult to resolve the problem, as they move back and forth between apartments. The leasing office would not work with my company. They are on the Do Not Lease list now. Please save yourself the aggravation. read more

This is by far the scammiest place I've ever lived. The apartments are so dangerously run down that even the poor, bedraggled maintenance workers complain about having to rig up repairs on things that shouldn't even still be used in the construction of homes. The windows and patio doors are a nightmare, they're so unconscionably cheap that you are basically completely exposed to the elements. Water leaks in so badly that they ice over ON THE INSIDE and have to be covered in plastic during the winter (the large ice chunks that would break off all over the carpet became a serious choking hazard for our baby), then in spring when it all melts they mold and rot and stink. Our whole family has been horribly sick from the mold problem that they are pretending doesn't exist. We have also had to deal with chronic rodent and insect infestations. In addition to how awful the actual apartments are, the staff is no better. There is a never ending noise problem (due to how cheap and thin the walls are) but if you call management to complain they accuse you of making it up and then send out threatening emails to charge residents fees if they call the police for noise disturbances. They also threaten to charge you if you have to call maintenance for their crappy plumbing that's constantly breaking. They put a ton of money into the fancy gym and absolutely nothing into the actual apartments and then charge you ridiculous fees for every little thing that they have to be bothered with for their residents. We even tried to switch to another apartment to get away from some of these issues since we couldn't get out of the lease and when we looked at another apartment there were crowbar marks from an obvious forced entry that they just didn't even bother to repair. have lived here for almost 3 years and love it! the staff is very friendly and they even host parties for the renters from time to time! lots of fun! used to live in a one bedroom and loved it. ran out of space and moved to a two bedroom after a couple of years with our dog! they are pet friendly! the grounds are great for walking pets too. love the courtyard its very pretty. the deluxe apartments are awesome. love having washer and dryer connections here. going online to their website is so easy to pay rent too. do it every month. makes it so easy and convenient. the apartments are nice here and wouldn't choose to live in any other apartment in springfield. definitely recommended :) read more

I've lived here for the past year. We had 3rd floor, and here are the problems we had. The balcony door was more than drafty; it didn't shut properly during winter. We had maintenance look at it, they found out if u slam it shut, it can sometimes lock. That was the fix. They also fixed the garbage disposal (it sounded like there was something stuck in it). The fix was to jam another utensil until it wasn't stuck. Every time we used the disposal, we heard something rattling. The Living room walls near the floor also had bad drafts, I'm assuming the siding doesn't work, or there is no insulation. That being said our heating bill was high that winter. We tried to put up plastic around the windows and Balcony door, but the drafts always bubbled them out. The windows also being drafty, sent in moisture, which caused mildew/mold all around the window in the plastic bag. There was a light outside attached to the building, next to our window that buzzed/hummed. It was so loud; we had to move the bed to the other bedroom. We contacted the office, since it was late winter; it took a month to change. The buzz came back about a few weeks later. We couldn't sleep in our master bedroom, and that's how most lights in the complex are. You can bring in pets, but you have to pay a large fee, plus pet rent per month. No one in the complex picks up after their animals, so don't walk in the grass. The complex tries to trap people in fees. We are fighting them about paying 2 more months over written notice to vacate. They had called month's prior, asking if we would stay another year. After telling them no, they said that's all they wanted to know. When last month's rent came, there was a note telling us we never gave a written statement about leaving or not, I called, they said just bring one down, no problems. Upon leaving the keys last day, the property manager said they would bill us for the last 2 months. I tried calling higher ups, and emailing, it took a month to get ahold of someone who would not call me from a non-private number. Even though the complex refused to communicate the written vacate notice, they have written in their contract a hand full of ways to trap you into paying months extra rent even though they screwed up. The complex is also a high crime zone; they require renters insurance because of this issue. If your apartment faces the Gym's courtyard, you'll hear banging on the gym door all night, so people who do not live in the complex can get in, banging can last upwards of 20 minutes. I'm sure I'm leaving a few incidents out, but I think you get my drift on how well Chatham Hills treats their customers. read more
