So, I went and i was amazed by the decorations that the shop had. They offer different types and flavors of cakes. From the flavor I decided to order the butterscotch cake flavor from the cake shop. What a cute little cake shop! As soon as you walk in, you see the Very glam and gorgeous chandelier. When you arrive to the counter, there is plenty of goodies to chose from if you're looking for a sweet treat to go or eat there with a coffee. I was there to order a standard small birthday cake and had the option of 2 layer or 3 layer. Definitely a nice option to have as most places only do 2 layers. They have a variety of cake flavors as well as fillings. As I was walking around, I noticed all the other decorative cakes in the refrigerator which looked so good and beautifully created. Horrible experience when it came to ordering my son's birthday cake. Marcus was the employee to take my order and "try" to answer my questions as this was my very first time doing this. Marcus not only was brief and not specific with his answers but showed me the wrong sizing to the cakes I had asked about, giving me false hope on what the cake would look like. As you can see in the pictures the top layer is 6inches but what was shown in store was a 7in top tier cake and an 8in bottom tier cake. The cake was not proportionate and was started to tilt over. I was extremely upset about this and explained the whole situation to the owner Jean Paul who said that that was the information on the paper and that's what they did. He did not apologize for the horrible cake job or for the incorrect information that Marcus had given me. He basically said that the cake was made with the instructions given. Not only that but I was given a price when I placed the order of 98.00 dollars but when it came time to pay, that price had gone from $98 to $160... Like what? Their only justification for this was because it was a decorated cake... what decorations? There were no decorations on it. This should have been a red flag from the beginning. Being a first time and last time client, Jean Paul did not provide a way of fixing this such as a partial refund for the inconvenience and bad presentation. I'm very upset about their service. I really hope this does not happen to anyone else. Beware of this place!!!! read more

We ordered cupcakes for my son's birthday. Andrea was so sweet and helpful, full of suggestions! We came here after finding out Publix received their cupcakes frozen - gross. I'll be coming here from now on - worth it and also I love supporting small businesses! We brought in Toy Story themed liners and and toppers for the cupcakes, and Andrea was happy to work that into our order. My son also has a dye sensitivity. What I ordered Guava Cheesecake Tres Leche Creme brûlée The Tres Leche is amazing, so fresh and not complete creme. It was so tasty, I ate half the tray before offering any to my husband of which we got desserts to split, oops! I would come back for this alone. Go try it The Guava cheesecake was simple. The guava pasta topped it, it did have great cheesecake texture however to me it was just simple. I really wanted to hope the Creme Brûlée was going to be bomb, it just wasn't. It had the consistency of soup, and not enough flavor. The shop however had several cake slices, a variety of larger cakes and different menu options like cookies. I will give a round of applause to The Cake Shop. While one of my friends like to rave about their cakes, I was never a big fan... however, that was then; this is now. I will admit that they have improved tremendously from my first visit cake experience. The cake I purchased most recently was for one of my daughters to split with me and I must say that we both thoroughly enjoyed each bite. The soft icing was perfect (not overly sweet, but just right) and the cake itself was moist and fresh. They also have macaroons, cupcakes, and specialty cakes that looked delicious. The interior design is so cute and resembles a swanky dessert shop. My 5 year old told me it reminded her of "Hollywood". We eat a ton of sweet treats so we certainly will be back for more. How awesome is that!!! The decor is so elegant with the statement chandelier hanging right above you. It is definitely a game changer for the neighborhood. Hooray for a brand new dessert and coffee shop in the neighborhood. We were driving on Bruce B Downs and a glistening sign that said The Cake Shop graced my presence. Without a stop we had to stop by. Upon stopping in, the first thing you see are beautiful hints of pinks, silver, and a grand chandelier! There are mini desserts, and a couple cases of beautiful sweet cakes, cookies, and other sweet & savory goodies. One of the very nice owners greeted us so happily into her new spot that just opened yesterday. We surveyed over all off her cakes and asked about almost everyone of them. We picked the amazing chocolate raspberry cake. This was not overly rich, overly chocolatey, or overly raspberry. Everything came together so perfectly. They also have coffee and breakfast type items and will have many more items. There is not a menu just yet, but there sure will be. Ok, so for me when it comes to cakes and cupcakes etc, I do not consider myself a connoisseur, but, I do know a good one when I taste one, and these were A-Ok. The cupcakes here were as good as most other places.... You can find all your popular flavors, including red velvet, oreo, birthday cake and so on. They also sell other sweet baked goods (cheese cake, cookies, tarts etc). The one thing that does stand out is the décor...it is very beautifully put together for such a small space. All things girly and tea-party-like! It really makes for a cute cake shop to just get a cupcake, a coffee or tea and stay to enjoy it. Stop getting your tres leches from Publix and start getting them here. It's super authentic and is topped with dulce de leche. Very creamy and filling. It has everything you could ever want in a tres leches. With that being said, I'm definitely coming back here. They have all sorts of stuff. You just have to find which dessert/pastry is for you. I also got the beef empanada and the chocolate mousse. Personally, the tres leches set the bar so high that they come nowhere in comparison. I gave "The Cake Shop" two chances in less than a week to make a good impression. The 3-star is generous given the shops' interior presentation and the eye-catching artistry of the pastries being above-par! HOWEVER....(note the caps), the texture of the cake was grainy w/o much flavor - the almost diabetic comatose inducing amount of sugar failed in its attempt to satisfy the palate. If that's not enough, the cake was deficient in moistness....somewhat unyielding in my attempts to fork up a sample. I couldn't do anything w/ both of these birthday cakes - and no, I wouldn't give them away b/c of the subpar...not even at or above par quality, so they were trashed -a loss of $60. This was my experience...others may concur or oppose, but there will no chances w/ us for repeat business. read more

We had an idea of what we wanted and asked if they could build it... not only did they do what we wanted but they created a better design than what we could have imagined! The flavors were on point, you could even eat the frosting (people make these hard tasteless fondants and creams these days, to design on, that are just imposible to eat!!!). Also, I was not told that the icing on the lemon cupcake had hidden coconut shavings in it. As a result, I was not risking trying the almond cake I purchased. I've been to this place 3 times. So this review is taking all experiences into account. What caught my eye was the giant inflatable cake they have (had) on the roof. When entering, you are awed by the beautiful chandelier. The shop is beautifully decorated and maintained; which is inviting and makes you want to sit and enjoy some of the sweets. On one occasion we purchased my daughters custom bday cake for her toy story theme party. The ordering process was horrendous (told to call back, when we did call back, we were then told we'd get a call back..never did, had to call back etc-- and when we finally told them the type of cake we wanted we were left wondering if the cake was actually going to be made and ready for the party). With that said, the cake turned out amazing and tasted wonderful. Just a bit too sweet for me but everyone else at the party loved it. On other occasions we've come in for some of the pastries. The pastries are well done; and if you want a good cupcake or slice of baklava, in a glamorous setting, then come here. Just don't expect it to be the best cupcake or baklava you've ever had...it's good, not great. The prices are slightly above average but nothing extreme compared to other places in the Tampa Bay Area. We've always felt welcomed by the owners and the staff and have never had any issues with them being rude (as others who have reviewed this place indicated they've experienced). All in all, nice little spot if you're searching for a place that offers a variety of pastries and espresso. Give it a shot if you're around the New Tampa/ Wesley Chapel area. read more

Had I known that the Cake Shop was under new ownership, I may not have gone back. I ordered my oldest daughter's graduation cake there four years ago and it was amazing! Unfortunately, they chose not to tell me that they are under new ownership when I asked about that particular cake. I ended up ordering a vanilla cake with strawberry filling; only I didn't expect the filling to taste like Smuckers from a jar.
