We ordered crab legs, shrimp, white rice and garlic bread. The garlic bread was hard but it was flavorful. I don't send it back because we were hungry and it was $2.00. Now, on to the food. The crab was really fresh and good but the prices for what you get are absolutely insane. I don't know how the shrimp was because my daughter ordered the shrimp. She ate it all so I'll assume the shrimp was good. I doubt that we will return to this establishment as the price just doesn't match up what you get. Our bill was literally $195.00 for three people. I was really excited to try this spot....but..... The hours of the restaurant need to be updated on yelp and online. It said they opened at 12 today when I got there the window said 12:30. Then once it was 12:30 a gentleman came out to say because it was valentines they are running a little behind and opening at 1 today. Then when trying to order they were sold out of certain items because of valentines, didn't seem well prepared. I ordered the margarita flight which I never received since there was only one server and they had a few parties to serve while I was there. I also asked for the monthly special $59 for two people and the server didn't seem to know it was all month long he only thought it was for valentines and had to verify with the chef after I showed him the IG posts they had for this month. I got mild for our seafood and it was farrrr from mild it was super spicy so be careful! I even heard the party behind us talking about how spicy their food was. I was excited to try this place for my birthday once I heard San Pedro Seafood Trays from Perris had joined them. I did get to visit and review San Pedro Seafood Trays in Perris when they were there and the service and food flavors were ON POINT! However, something changed when I tried their trays here at the Cajun Trap. The same amazing flavor I expected -was not there. And while our server was nice, our two trays with their accompanying crab legs came out at two drastically different times. To the point where it was awkward for what seemed like an eternity while I stayed looking around wondering when my tray was going to arrive while the other half of my party ate their tray which came out first. That is a major pet peeve of mine when I go out to eat and I am sure that I am not the only one. It is super important to me for all meals to come out at the same time if not 1/2 minutes apart at most, but 10 or more minutes? That's a major no in my book. Also, when paying, one of my family members asked the server if tip/ gratuity was included (keep in mind my party consisted of 9 people) and he was told by the server NO- it was not. It wasn't until after they paid and I heard at home that they tipped because they were told this that I remembered it said on their menu that gratuity is included in check of large parties like ours. Needless to say- we gave double the gratuity due to the server misinformation. Judging from other reviews of lack of transparency on final order reciept/ payment and my own experience- just be aware of your group size and if gratuity is included/not and make sure to let them know you need itemized receipt prior to paying for your review if you wish to see what all you are paying for. This should not need to be asked for but apparently it does here. As far as enjoyment level goes- I still enjoyed myself because of the music that made me remember my highschool days & the birthday dessert that ALMOST made up for lack of flavor in my seafood tray as it was DELICIOUS. I came here with a friend to try their lunch meals; however, we came too early at 12:30pm and nothing was ready so we ended up waiting a little bit longer for our food to be served than usual so if you're in a rush don't come here exactly at 12:30pm. But other than that, we were happy with our food and service coz' our server hooked us up. I tried the medium spice lunch bowl with ramen, shrimp and mussels. 700th review HAD to be EPIC, so here it is... 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for The Cajun Trap, which is where it's at!! A foodie friend of mine happened to catch me at the perfect time to try this place out. We'd been planning on coming and finally had a chance to see what the hype is about. Well... the hype is most definitely REAL, folks!! Cassy was our super sweet and very attentive server. She answered all of our questions and checked on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. We dined on a Saturday for a late lunch, and it was the perfect time, as they weren't busy at all. The place is roomy with spacious booths and nice sized round tables. You get bibs, gloves and nut crackers for the crab legs. They even have a bar, but they aren't currently serving alcohol because they still need to get their license (the only reason I deducted half a star =/ ). The food was pure perfection, from the first look to the last bite. Y'all know I don't do spicy, but their Trap Sauce is on point!! I tasted it, and it did have a good kick to it. Our food was bathed in the sauce without spice, but you can definitely add it if you're love a good heat level. My friend asked for a side with the spice, and Cassy was happy to accommodate. We started off with the Cajun Fries as our appetizer (I was starving, and this was the perfect antidote). They give a really good size serving of it, and the spice blend they use on them is legit!! We then ordered the 1.5 lb. Special Trap where you choose a combo of seafood totaling 1.5 lbs plus 3 sides. We picked crab legs, mussels, and shrimp, along with corn, potatoes, and sausage for the sides. We also ordered the Mojarras (wet version). Yummmm!! I highly recommend this place if you love cajun and seafood!! I hope they get that liquor license soon because a michelada would have made the experience even better! The Food: 3/5 Ordered San Pedro style meal for 2 with shrimp, crawfish, and added two clusters of snow crab legs. I have been to San Pedro many times and love the food there. This version is over cooked, covered with burnt black oily chunks of what I assume are old burnt seasoning. The HOT spice level is equivalent to a medium of other seafood boil chains. This style is also bland. I asked for a bowl of their Cajun sauce they use for their boil bags. That turned out to be delicious!! But the worst part was the lack of utensils. They served us the crab clusters whole but only provided plastic forks to eat them with. NO CRACKERS provided. Good thing my husband had his pocket knife on him. Used that to smash the crab claws. The struggles to eat the crab really ruined the mood. The bill: 1/5 You get to pay by cc at the table. This is good BUT you don't get to review your order. Other restaurants that does this will give you a printed receipt so you can review the price and ordered items. Here you don't get to see that. I ordered another round of beer for the hubby and myself but only got 1. I wanted to check that I was not charged for 4 (as ordered) for the 3 beers received. I had to ask the waitress because there was no receipt for me to review. She just replied to not worry, she only charged me for 2 beers. (Ok... but did you?) The total was about $166 before tip. I was disappointed with this restaurant and left just after having an appetizer, which is very rare. When we first walked in yesterday, it was very hot. I don't know if they were too cheap to run their air conditioning or if it was broken, which makes the whole experience highly uncomfortable. They sat us, a party of four, at this huge round table that sat 10. Half of the chairs were wobbly. The decor was kind of fun like a fishing wharf. They had a small bar, which they really played up for some reason. It's like they think they're a night club or something. They had all of these strobe lights going off at two in the afternoon. I thought we were going to get seizures. It was very distracting. The host got our drink order, but when he served them, he left them across from us and we had to get up and reach over that huge round table. Our server was friendlily and attentive. I ordered a tamarin michelada. That was really good. My partner ordered a Space Dust IPA, but halfway through we noticed they served him expired beer. We saw the menu online first, so we wanted to order calamari, but it was crossed off on the menu when we got there. We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer instead along with garlic bread. The octopus was good, but part of it was tough. We asked for a knife and they brought one, but only one. They didn't bring utensils until we asked. They didn't bring any little plates either. They offered salt and pepper, but it was in these individual condiment containers and they already combined the salt and pepper, which was odd. Shakers at the table would be easier and more cost effective for them. To add to the heat, they had spotlights at the ceiling that were halogen or possibly incandescent because you could feel the heat radiating beneath. Things just got a lot better at the Cajun trap cuz now they also offer the San Pedro fish trays All they're missing is ceviches and this officially becomes my ONLY seafood restaurant I come to. Let's not forget that they have the friendliest staff that makes the dining experience worth coming back for. Service is key for me (aside from the quality of food) to want to be eager to be a regular customer. Kyara's service was a delightful. She had a Genuine smile seems to like her role as a server because it didn't seem forced at all. Definitely will be back with the family. My nephew although doesn't like seafood (I blame SpongeBob lol ) likes coming here for the decorations. Also I'm very thankful that they let him bring his chicken stars from across the street. My wife and I decided to try this spot out, after driving by several times during our travels. We went on a Friday evening and we were met with a nice staff and live music from a DJ. The food was great and had a very large quantity. We received the medium heat sauce, which was pretty hot in my standards, but no so for my wife. She loves very hot food. We immediately noticed that this would be a great spot for sporting events because of the three televisions that are near the front bar area. This place is slotted to have alcohol here soon. The food is good but little small and college feel to the setup. I got the lunch bowl. It had a cut up potato a corn on the cob some plain Ramen and medium shrimp that has the flavor. The potato and the corn on the cob were also flavored. It was OK I don't think it was worth $15 unless they include the drink. Ambiance is really cool you feel like you're in a club. Music is top-notch so that was really fun to have the early 2000s not 80s music or something else. It was really a cool vibe. Would be a fun date place or somewhere to go out. We get there with yelp reservations and the place is pretty empty and yelp did let me update my reservation which I thought is pack and full but it wasn't. Another thing the place lack a lot of customers service. Our servers was friendly but he took our order and came to charge us and that was it no refill or a check up on us. I've since come a handful more times. I will say that every time we do come the waitresses are lovely and super friendly! With the being said I would say the general consensus would be inconsistency. Every time we've come something has changed, different fries, the sauce tastes different every time, the seafood comes out differently (please do away with the metal tins and keep the bags). Each time the menu is written in sharpie with additional price increases from the previous trip only a few weeks apart. The last time my husbands wings just weren't great (and when they are expensive as they are here, it's just not excusable). I will also say every times it's a ghost town. Our first experience was last year during Father's day weekend and it was wonderful. My husband had a great time. They even had live mariachi playing and food had great flavor. I went again about 2 months ago during the week with my in laws. We didn't get gloves, nor bibs until I requested them from the server. She even told us that she wasn't sure if they had them ? Some of the family were not asked how spicy they wanted their food. Some just got mild but decided to just eat it anyway even though they wanted spicy. We also had to ask for lemons and scissors to cut the seafood. And unfortunately I have to update my review per my recent visit to the Cajun Trap. I have returned and saw the previous $45 meal has been changed to a $55 meal and It's now an either or option. This annoyed me. I was stuck with having to choose the first meal and missed out on having snow crab with my muscles and shrimp.. It seems everything else is the same so I'm not sure why they changed it. It says 2lbs of meat but it seemed to be the same amount of meat to me. I'm not sure I'll be returning. So bummed. When our food came out I was eager to try the sauce. First taste was bland and flavorless. No life to the sauce at all. Just bland and mediocre at best. As my family started eating we all had corn on the cob that was frozen in the middle. I brought this to the waiters attention and he put his finger on it and apologized. FOUR corns all frozen and luke warm at best. Ordered shrimp and snow crab legs and they were just ok. Our experience gets worse. Let's move on to the ambience. As we ate we noticed a larger party celebrating a birthday. No problem with a birthday celebration. The issue arose as the playlist being blasted in the restaurant was all explicit and sexual. Every single song referenced sex and included the F word and other choice descriptions. Artists and songs played included: BIRTHDAY SEX from Jerimih, ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY- 50 cent, ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU CALL- Ja Rule, songs from R Kelly, P Diddy and Keisha. Each and every song was the expletive uncensored version. Ruined the experience for my family with children ages 8 and 4. I brought this to the attention of staff as it's not proper to play f bombs and sexual related themes while people are trying to eat. Had I known this was the music being played I would have never patronized the business. I spoke to the manager Sara who explained to me the larger table was celebrating a birthday and they requested the song/s. To her credit she changed the music but the damage was done already. Had my family exit the restaurant while I packed our food to leave. To add insult to injury the cold corn we sent back was never replaced. The manger comped the corn but that's not the point! The waiter stated it was frozen from the Valentine's Day rush.....valentines was two days ago. How does that reasoning make sense?? The staff perhaps believed I wanted my meal comped entirely. I was looking for good food and service and a place to enjoy time with my family while we eat, not free food. After all this, I learned from the manager the birthday party was upset the music request was stopped short. The manger although nice and respectful should have had the presence of mind to not honor such a request especially the X rated versions of all the songs. One table causes you to lose the business of ten more. Is that worth it? Not at all. I hope the manger reads this review as the location is going to collapse if any of the above goes unchecked.
