Bad service and rude employees. Push time constraints constantly on consumers and don't check on them.

The staff…read moreis so friendly, they alway ask how your day is going and over the years I consider them to be my BEST friends. Honestly, they've been there so much for me in the past (when no one else was there, they were) that any one of them could ask me to help them move a heavy ass hot tub, and I would in a heartbeat. The owner, Cade, is THE shit. Just look for the tall guy with the sweet hair and badass button up shirt and you'll know him when you see him. Best part is because he's so cool, all the people he hires to work for him are cool, thus the people that frequent there are cool, so by going there YOU are COOL by association. It's like one big cool club and everyone's invited. The amount of romances and babies that have resulted from ACES ON FIRST is probably what keeps the population of Duluth above the 2.1 children-per-woman needed to prevent a society's extinction. Do yourself a favor and pop in Aces. I know that when I die and I enter the white light, on the other side I'm going to emerge into Aces. Heaven IS a place on Earth...and it's called ACES. BTW Thank you Aces for directly hooking me up with he woman I'm in love with right now.

As stated earlier, the sound is really nice because it reaches every end of the theater. Parking is reasonably priced, however, if you rather not pay for parking at all, I'd suggest parking in a free lot downtown and using the skywalk to get to symphony hall, or the DECC in general. I enjoy that most, the skywalk leading here, since it protects from the outside weather nicely. Being where our company holds its shows throughout the year, including Nutcracker, I can say that I am pleased with this venue. Note: the backstage area has several dressing rooms and is quite spacious, for the performers.

The acoustics were very good. We were right up front, so I can't say how the sound carried throughout the large auditorium, but from our seats, the acoustics were great -- sound was balanced, no feedback, really able to hear everything really clearly. The staff was super professional and well-organized (always appreciated). The venue was able to handle the number of people, and all signage and directions were clear to help guide fans to the right part of the building. It was clear that they were able to handle a sell-out event with no trouble. And the beverages were reasonably priced, as was the parking -- something that always is a pleasant surprise, especially when you grew up in a city where parking always costs $10 and up no matter where you are going! In all, kudos to the staff and would definitely see another show at the DECC.

I started with the Tempura Fried Cauliflower appetizer, which ended up being my favorite dish of the night! You can choose between sambal aioli or crabapple BBQ sauce -- I had the aioli drizzled on top and the crabapple sauce on the side, and it was amazing. I'm not usually into autumn spice flavors, but the crabapple sauce was subtle, slightly smoky, and paired beautifully with the crispy cauliflower. For my entrée, I had the Coconut Curry Bowl. It was flavorful and hearty, though a bit strong and salty for my personal taste. They also offer a kids' menu with generous portions (I've included a photo for reference -- grilled chicken, fries, and veggies). Overall, great vibes, friendly service, and a wonderful cause. We loved supporting a non-profit restaurant dedicated to the arts and community development!

I reviewed the website for Break Room and couldn't find any useful info about upcoming events or if a large group needs a reservation (again we're a group of 11). So I called and no one answered. I was going to leave a voicemail and the voicemail isn't even set up so can't leave a voicemail??? Not sure what kind of business has no info on their website, doesn't answer their phone, and also has no voicemail, seemed very odd. So then I found The Break Room on Facebook and sent a message and asked about upcoming events and said no one answered their phone and no voicemail set up. About four minutes later I got a response from the The Break Room Facebook account and Instead of anything useful I got some smart ass response from what I'm guessing is a 16 year old basically making jokes. I hope this is a kid because if this is how the owner acts, WOW this place must be run pretty poorly. So tonight a group of 11 people that would have bought drinks, food, and rented multiple pool tables for at least three hours will take their business somewhere else. Guessing as a group we'd spend around $400 or so and I don't think this loss won't break the business but just seems odd they would work so hard to drive customers AWAY, guessing this isn't a good long term business model and will result in them closing their doors sooner than later. Also looking at other reviews of this place seems there ARE MULTIPLE ONE STAR REVIEWS last few months and good reviews are from years ago.

I've never waited a full six years between experiencing what a business has to offer and writing a…read morereview before but Magic Smelt Puppet Troupe breaks the mold in more ways than one. I'm not sure what else they do besides putting on the Run, Smelt, Run! parade on the shore of Lake Superior in May but that's more than enough. I've been meaning to go back but it's a ways off from Detroit and finances are always a challenge so who knows if that will happen especially since ... gasp! This year might have been the final smelt parade. Jim Ouray, the founder of the smelt parade is stepping down as head honcho, citing the headaches of securing funding and doing all the clerical work which he's pretty tired of at his age. Hell, it sounds exhausting to me and I'm a good deal younger than him. He still wants to do the fun stuff, like play King Neptune, but unless someone steps up and takes the reins, which nobody has yet, it's curtains for the smelt parade. As grandpa would say "Well, that's too damn bad!" The smelt parade is a riot! It's kind of a northern bastardization of Mardi Gras. We have something similar in Detroit called the Marche du Nain Rouge. Ours is bigger and we wear red and dress like demons sometimes while in Duluth they wear silver and usually rock some sort of smelt themed costume. Theirs is more fun and soulful and flipped out if you ask me though. There's all manner of wacky smelt themed costumes- Smelt Lumberjack, Smelt Pope, Smeltbot 3000, Smelt Mayor and the fabulous Smelt Queen among dozens of others. There's a second line jazz band playing as the merrymakers dance down the Duluth boardwalk. There's a smelt fry and more music at the parade's conclusion at the Zeitgeist Theater. There's stilt walkers and a whole Rite of Spring type ceremony. Bye bye winter, let's party! Of course they're farther north than the Motor City so it's in May and not March. That's also the height of smelting time here - the reason for the season. Sorry it took me so long to write this. Hell, I had to create the listing, too. None of the normies here on Yelp are messing with this bizarre wonderfulness. Lots of details have slipped through my memory banks in the over half a decade that's elapsed, even if I have lots of photos and even created a travel comic about my pilgrimage here. Suffice it say I give the weirdos at Magic Smelt Puppet Troupe the highest possible recommendation and hope the Smelt Parade somehow endures.
