Before moving to Chicago, I contacted countless creative agencies hoping to find a gig that could help me get a foothold in the city. Here's how 99% of those interactions went:
Them: Your portfolio looks perfect for this position we have open right away!
Me: Well, it looks alright, but it's (not the type of work I'm looking for / too quick of a turnaround / 50 miles from the city / etc.). Do you have any other opportunities closer to what I requested?
Them: We'll be in touch.
And then... silence. I never heard from any of these agencies again. The 1% that stood apart? Tracy at BuzzCo.
I met Tracy at an event in my senior year of college, where she reviewed my portfolio and gave me some helpful pointers for selling my work. Two years later, as I was beginning my job search in Chicago, I reached out to her again for help in finding a gig. After several months of the aforementioned terrible experiences with recruiters, my expectations were low, but Tracy blew me away with her support, guidance, and downright determination to help me find a job.
Every few weeks (sometimes more frequently!) she called or emailed me with a new opportunity. She helped me get into several interviews, many of which did not pan out, but were good experiences nonetheless. I never felt pressured to take a job that just did not work for me. When I found an internship though other connections, our relationship didn't end--she continued looking for full-time opportunities that fit my needs. After several months at my internship, she contacted me once again with an excellent position at a large tech company, which I immediately jumped upon. Several rounds of interviews later, I was hired, and today I'm in a fantastic position early in my career.
I can't recommend BuzzCo enough. Other recruiters will not match the level of service you will find here. read more
