This review is for the cafe portion of the Butterfly Joint! We stopped by on a Sunday morning and were treated soooo warmly by Danny and his daughter. The small window brings all the neighbors for their morning beverage before the dog walk. Though we'd never been in before we were treated with such kindness and offered some recommendation. Seeing Danny interact with his regular customers was wholesome and what community is all about! We tried the saffron turmeric latte and beet goji latte which were so beautiful and nice warm flavors. We also tried two of the vegan donuts- the Meyer lemon was my fave! I liked how they had a sort of crunchy crisp exterior not found in traditional donuts, and were dense almost like mochi.

I came here and it was AMAZING. Nice people and the vegan donuts were good. Get the Lebanese hand pies

What a delightful business. The butterfly joint is named after a wood joinery method and is attached to a woodworking studio for kids. The owner is so friendly, passionate about good coffee, and teaching young kids empowering life skills. The cookies are delightful too; snag one before they sell out. Please support this business!

I LOVE this place. It's such a cute hole in the way, neighborhood spot. Food/Drinks: -Matcha Latte: good flavor with a hint of sweetness -Latte: delicious hot & iced -they have oat milk! -Gluten Free Donut Mandarin flavor was delicious with a crunchy outside and a soft inside. Logistics: -takeaway only -street parking only -they take card

Lovely little walk up coffee window. Delicious. Friendly. Reasonable. Had the foghorn latte and a fiber cookie. No complaints

They now sell pastries and coffee! We walked down here to order a little morning pick me up. I ordered a mocha and a mochi donut. The mocha had a spicy kick to it. Delicious. This is the first time I had a mochi donut and it was very good. Service is quick and friendly. We sat on their handmade benches while we waited for our drinks. Would definitely come back. This is the only place nearby where you can buy coffee and pastries.

Cool little spot to get a legit cup of coffee in the Outer Richmond. It's run out of a woodworking shop/studio, you order at the service window. NGL, best cappuccino I've had in a long time! I ordered the Columbiana or Columbiano espresso as a cappuccino. I met Erin who was an absolute sweetheart. Super friendly and calls regulars by their names. I'd come here all the time if I lived in the Outer Richmond. 1000% recommend this neighborhood joint especially if you're a coffee purist. It's simply really good coffee. I think they have some trendy/gimmicky lattes on the menu also which I can't speak to but I'll definitely be coming back for their cappuccino.

We tried out the donut muffin and two of their vegan pies. All tasty. I also got an Americano. Cool kiosk window is the Cafe part of The Butterfly Joint, a woodworking and design studio for children. Service is friendly.

That's how I feel about Tinkering school. My Son,6yrs old, literally talks my ear off after coming home from here. He talk about the human size Hungry-Hungry Hippo he's making out of pulleys and wood, about the working Air hockey table and how good he is getting at using real tools. Joshua and Nathan and everyone else there are kind, attentive and passionate about what they do. I leave feeling like I'm actually enriching my child's life instead of just leaving him with somebody to babysit him. Registration was easy and They are pretty good at getting back to my emails. Not sure why the bad review here said it was hard. I guess I'm just good at using a computer.

Our son attended this summer camp for the first time. We were so excited because he's always asking…read moreto build stuff using tools/power tools. Our experience was disappointing. Since the camp is an extension of Brightworks School, there are kids who know the ropes and are familiar with the way things work. Unfortunately, the camp isn't set up to really introduce kids who are new to the process of building. Every day our son came home and said he hadn't built anything because he didn't know what to build. Yes, some kids will dive right in and come up with something. Others need instruction, and that's normal. Brightworks has a reputation for being child-led to a very high degree, but I take issue with them not teaching our son about the materials and tools so he could feel comfortable and build something, which he did do on the two final days. When I asked for someone to give him some guidance or ideas, I was told they don't like to give the kids ideas because then they all do the same thing. Yes, yes, I agree, but that applies to the kids with experience, not a kid who's been there 2 days and has no idea what to do. That takes the concept of child-led too far. A school friend was with him at camp and they reported that the instructors were snappy with the kids. Sigh In addition, on their day at Crissy Field, he returned home with the worst sunburn he has ever had. When I inquired about why nobody had put sunscreen on him, I was told that they had given the kids sunscreen and he had applied it himself. He is not yet 7. He is not responsible for sunscreen application to protect his skin from damage. Adults are responsible for that. Even if he takes off his hat, it's the adults who have to enforce the safety rules. Given our experience, we asked if we could un-enroll him for the following week and get a refund. They declined, much to our disappointment.

Every week she learns something new: new styles, materials, and techniques. Sometimes they focus on painting, other times on sculpture or different forms of art. Katia and Sara have both been her teachers, and she has felt happy and supported with all of them. Like with many activities at this age, it took a couple of weeks for her to fully adjust and feel familiar with the environment but consistency made a big difference. As parents, we appreciate seeing her come home excited and proud of what she created. It is easy to notice how much she has progressed over time and we get very excited when we see her project. We also appreciate the communication style of the school. They provide a high-level overview each week of what the kids will be working on, which keeps parents informed without overwhelming us with too much information. On the administrative side, tuition payments and renewals are simple, and the staff has always been friendly and helpful whenever we have had questions or needed help resolving any mistakes on our part. We also love the location. Depending on the day and who is with me, it is easy to wait nearby at the library, a coffee shop, or a restaurant while class is in session.

The first portion is play time and then you move to the party room for snacks and cake. You can also have some snacks laid out in the front part of the play area. The party room is in the back and I had meant to go in and give them some basic set-up directions prior to us going in, but totally forgot. I ran into the room while folks were already filing in as I hadn't even viewed the room, yet, and it looked amazing! They had laid out all the snacks and drinks; they supplied plates, napkins, basic party tablecloths and a royal birthday chair and birthday banner. I didn't even have cake stands so brought a few plates from home to display the cupcakes, but they had some cute cake stands and took it upon themselves to beautifully display them! Far better than what I would have done! They even took it upon themselves to move the balloons from spot to spot as the party migrated - whatever looked the best! Then they helped pack up the leftovers and clean everything. Easy peasy. They do include 18% gratuity, but with the amount of mental load they took off my plate, it was 100% worth it. And of course, the kids loved it! The only thing I wish they had was a bit longer play time option. The kids LOVED playing and wanted more! The venue and level of service is truly exceptional! My nephew & I played two. Then as his friends and their parents started arriving, it was the official time for his party start time and so our family could walk through the locked gate into the kids world of swings, slides, climbing walls, and colorful tunnels and passageways. For an estimated 90 minutes, about 20 kids ran through the time of their lives as their parents and Auntie looked on in awe haha! A face painter was also setup on one side of that main room who painted next level and intricate animal, tribal, and celestial themed designs on some of the kids' faces while the others played. When the clock ticked to a certain time, the staff made an announcement to head towards the back party room for pizza, cupcakes, and presents. (My brother chose the food options and arranged for them to be delivered ahead of time.) The staff had setup the room perfectly, with a happy birthday banner over the cupcakes on the middle table, then little tables setup on both sides of that table with snacks, drinks, pizza, goodie bags, and long tables setup in the middle for the kiddos to sit at comfortably as they entered the room.
