I love my pancakes with strawberry syrup. That request, too, was ignored. It felt intentional, like they didn't care whether I enjoyed my meal or not. Like I was supposed to just take whatever they gave me, stay quiet, and be grateful. And in that moment, I could feel it. That heavy, suffocating weight of being dismissed, disrespected, and treated as less than. I told myself to walk out right then and there. But I didn't. I stayed. I ate my bacon, sausage, and half a piece of ham, whispering to God, asking Him to give me strength not to let this break me.
