Starters range from £2-7 and include garlic bread; olives; soup; pate; garlic mushrooms on toasted sourdough bread; prawn cocktail. Mains are £7-12 and include a traditional ploughman's; roast lamb and beef; scampi; homemade burger; ham and eggs; pasta with tomato sauce and Brie; salmon with dill and new potatoes. Dropped in on the Red Lion when I went home to visit. It must have been 2 years since I was last in…read morethere and I was pleasantly surprised. I went for lunch on a Wednesday just before Christmas. The new landlord/landlady have done a great job cleaning the pub up from what I remembered it as. They have guest cask conditioned real ale (always a bonus) and a good food menu. I had the fish and chips, and it was excellent. Decent prices and I would certainly drop in again when I am in the home town.

We started with Cornish crab (£12), prawns with garlic and chilli (£6) and mushrooms on a crouton with a creamy sauce (£5). For the main course we had tuna on a noodle salad (£14), ribs (£13), rib-eye (£17) and a very large T-bone (£25). It is a testament to the food that the only quibble would be that the chips, were rather pale and anaemic, although they tasted good. Everything else was a feast for the eyes and the taste buds, the Cornish Crab in particular was lovely. We booked, but on this occasion the place was fairly quiet: hopefully as news of the excellent food spreads booking will become essential. Strongly recommended. UPDATE = Went back for another meal. There is a special offer on Fridays at the moment, buy 2 courses and get a free desert: so it worked out at just over £20 per head for 3 courses. The food was very good, just a few minor niggles like no bread offered, slightly over-cooked lamb, microwaved desert (bread and butter pudding is better crispy) and fairly long wait between courses. Still for the money excellent food and great value, recommended.
