I can think of nothing negative to write about The Bull...and that's no bull!
I've been here for food, I've been here for drinks; heck, I've been here for the heady combination of food AND drinks. All has been delightful.
Special shout-out for the quality of the food. The Full English is full indeed, with the standard eggs, roasted tomato, toast, mushrooms, black pudding and bacon. Once, when black pudding had run out, a staff member immediately skipped over to my table with a double serving of bacon to compensate. Yes, please.
It's the little touches at The Bull that makes it such a special place. The interior plays to several different possible moods (cozy lounge, casual outdoor patio, standard pub bar, more formal dining area), and the staff is superb: warm, informed, efficient. Little things like the amazingly flavourful baked-in-house bread and the shards of fried parsnip atop my parsnip soup differentiate this pub from others.
Yelp note: if you're coming from a distance, double check in advance for reservations and/or if there is a private party going on. I was turned away once due to the latter, which left me just kicking around the Square eventually being disappointed by a Tesco sandwich. Learn from my mistakes.
Double points: dogs - my favourite kind of bar-mate; never argues about the bill! - now allowed at The Bull! read more
