I was told these were limited and unless I had asked for one he couldn't guarantee one would be free. I advised I had contacted someone called Noreen in July to confirm my request as I wasn't sure it would have been noted given we booked via booking.com and Noreen had confirmed my request. We were given the keys and the young man walked off. Luckily my father had stayed before so was able to point me in the right direction for my room. Upon entry to the room there was no cot. I saw housekeeping in the corridor and asked for one. It was at this point a lady arrived - I now know her name to be Letty. She was incredibly rude, raised her voice and told me that no one had let her know we needed a cot. I advised her that I had confirmed this back in July. She again repeated no one had told her. I pointed out poor communication within the hotel wasn't my concern. She went off and came back with a cot, slamming it down on the floor and saying "we charge £20 for these. You've already paid to stay so I don't know what we do". I told her I wasn't paying for a cot as at no point in time had anyone advised there was a cost. She asked where I wanted the cot putting up and then started dragging chairs around the room saying there wasn't enough space. She walked off after barking orders at Millie to "just put it up". I had to help Millie set up the cot as she was struggling to do it. She told Millie to put a towel over the base. We weren't even offered a single sheet folded around it. It didn't make for a comfortable nights sleep for my son as the towel was scratchy and hard. We came down for breakfast on Boxing Day at 8.45am and Letty was in the restaurant. We went to sit at a table and she said we couldn't sit there and said "over there" and pointed to another part of the restaurant. She was incredibly abrupt. I asked for a high chair and this was slammed on the floor beside me. I moved a chair to make room for the high chair so my son could sit at the table, she came back and picked up the chair I had moved and huffed loudly. At this point I told Letty she was being rude and asked her to move away. She started raising her voice to me saying "rude. I'm not rude. No no." Again I asked her to leave the area but she continued to shout in front of other customers quite loudly that she wasn't being rude. She did eventually walk off. We ordered breakfast and I asked for a yoghurt for my son. I was told this wasn't possible as it couldn't be put through the till. I was told the server would look at what was in the kids menu but she then clocked off and never came back. We sadly waited over 90 minutes for breakfast. Whilst waiting a man went to the young manager and said his wife had arrived and could she have a fried breakfast. Her food came out within 5 mins whilst we were still waiting for our food. I went to the kitchen and asked for a yoghurt for my son as he was becoming quite distressed, he had only eaten biscuits as this was all I had available for him, not anticipating breakfast would take so long. We had arrived at 8.45am and at this point we had been waiting 90 minutes. When the food did arrive it was cold. Upon checking out I asked to speak to the young manager. I was explaining our experiences and Letty made another appearance. She started talking over me, telling the young manager that she wanted to complain about me shouting at her the day before over the cot. I advised her there had been no shouting from anyone except herself. I asked her to tone her voice down in front of my son and pointed out she was shouting, she just kept saying she wasn't shouting and that I was being rude to her. I asked her to leave the area as she was being rude. She refused to leave so I had to ask my mother to take my son away from the area as he was beginning to get frightened by her shouting (he is only 1 years old). The young manager asked her to calm down and leave a number of times but she refused. Letty continued shouting that she had never been rude and that I was the problem. She said she had worked there for 7 years and never had a problem with complaints. Given her attitude I find this hard to believe. At this point I did raise my voice and tell her that her customer service was incredibly poor and she had spoilt our Christmas experience at the hotel and I asked her to leave the area as she was making me angry and she was making a scene. She did walk off at this point. This all played out in-front of other customers in the restaurant. I have paid £250 for two rooms and had an awful experience. I appreciate Christmas is a busy time and they are likely running on skeleton staff, but a 90 minute wait for breakfast isn't acceptable. Perhaps they need to limit the options available at breakfast time during festive per

I can think of nothing negative to write about The Bull...and that's no bull!…read more I've been here for food, I've been here for drinks; heck, I've been here for the heady combination of food AND drinks. All has been delightful. Special shout-out for the quality of the food. The Full English is full indeed, with the standard eggs, roasted tomato, toast, mushrooms, black pudding and bacon. Once, when black pudding had run out, a staff member immediately skipped over to my table with a double serving of bacon to compensate. Yes, please. It's the little touches at The Bull that makes it such a special place. The interior plays to several different possible moods (cozy lounge, casual outdoor patio, standard pub bar, more formal dining area), and the staff is superb: warm, informed, efficient. Little things like the amazingly flavourful baked-in-house bread and the shards of fried parsnip atop my parsnip soup differentiate this pub from others. Yelp note: if you're coming from a distance, double check in advance for reservations and/or if there is a private party going on. I was turned away once due to the latter, which left me just kicking around the Square eventually being disappointed by a Tesco sandwich. Learn from my mistakes. Double points: dogs - my favourite kind of bar-mate; never argues about the bill! - now allowed at The Bull!

The pub was quite noisy, partly the relatively young clientele (including a baby in a high chair) and partly the lack of carpets and bare floor boards. The menu is small and typical pub fare. Starters range from £2-7 and include garlic bread; olives; soup; pate; garlic mushrooms on toasted sourdough bread; prawn cocktail. Mains are £7-12 and include a traditional ploughman's; roast lamb and beef; scampi; homemade burger; ham and eggs; pasta with tomato sauce and Brie; salmon with dill and new potatoes. We had the cheese burger which was served on ciabatta with chips, and scampi and chips with tartare sauce. The scampi and chips were as you'd expect (frozen chips), the burger was homemade and very thick, but it had an odd musty taste and lacked seasoning.

The food is great and there is always a good selection on the menu, the food has always come out with in a good time even at busy times and is ALWAYS very tasty and good value. The staff are very friendly. We have brought our children here a few times and they have high chaires and are very child friendly. Out the back they have a play area and a big grassed area. they also have some animals right out the back which the kids love. there are fields around with horses in, it is a lovely pub garden for in the summer. You can also hire out marques out the back which is great for wedding etc. Over all a very friendly pub with a great atmosphere.
