The Buell is always a great venue. This time we were seeing Moulin Rouge. Security was a breeze. The staff is always welcoming and eager to help you find where you need to be. We were up at the top so we took the elevator. Be patient, it takes a bit. Found our seats and enjoyed a great show. At intermission we did have to scoot down to the second floor for a bathroom break. We were back in time before things go going again. At the end, we listened to the pit orchestra play until they finished and we had much less crowd to get through to leave. Overall a great evening. read more

First time going and the theatre was great, not a bad seat in the place from what it appeared to me. The parking on the other hand was a nightmare. Getting into the garage wasn't bad but getting out was a relentless nightmare, but that is hardly the theatre's fault but it did impact the experience. Part of the DCPA complex, the Buell hosts the major shows that travel the country. I've seen several productions here over the year and the venue is a great space to see great artists at work. In terms of price, tickets are priced reasonable, but concessions are a joke. The price for a drink is literally a third of the ticket price. The parking situation for the complex is very complicated and needs to be redone. It's ridiculous to try to navigate getting to a show on time without having to go hours before the show starts. Would love to see the Buell update the seats as well as they offer a little too close for comfort to your seat neighbor. read more

This is a great little theater! I am not sure if there are any or many bad seats. I've seen a few different shows here, most recently Hamilton and Wicked. They also have TED Talks here, as well. There are two concession/beverage stands, as well. The alcoholic drinks are priced as you'd expect (too high, lol) and they give you adult sippy cups to take into the theater. They do have discounts for teachers, students, military, etc. check the full list on the website. The allows for any of those patron to purchase up to two tickets at half price an hour or so before -- I'm not sure of exact time, check the website. They are actually really ridiculously unorganized, though. My friend and I went to buy our tickets in person before the show. They made us all stand in ONE line for ONE of the ticket sellers behind the window. The line didn't move. They were doing nothing, saying nothing. The rest of the 4 or 5 workers windows said "will call". They did nothing to alleviate the insanely long line of the one other ticket seller. I was very frustrated and voicing it so my friend finally went up and asked what was going on and how we wanted to buy tickets. We were not buying discounted tickets, just regular tickets. So then, another person sitting on their butt doing nothing finally said they'd sell us the tickets. Like ASK, what people are doing! Don't ASSume that everyone is only buying the discounted tickets that they only sell x amount of minutes before the show! Use your words and communicate. Then, that person selling us tickets then said he did NOT have TWO seats together or some crap. I'm like whatttt???? So, since this person is inept at their job I had to pull up available seats online on my phone. I say "What about seats X and X? I see them available right here. Is there some difference in purchasing online versus here in person?" Then he says "Oh yeah, those are available". Sweet f'n jesussss. So then since that took so dang long, we had to RUSH through dinner. Why is it so hard to find good help? But, it's a great theater and they have very good shows. read more

We were in the very last row of the balcony and still had an incredible view of the concert. They had many staff members available to help direct you to your comfortable seats! We were here for the Avatar: The Last Airbender concert. I also found it very convenient that you can order food and drinks ahead of time. This helps avoid the long lines during intermission. Very nice! We had a great theater experience here. We landed, checked out the events for the day and saw WICKED was at the Buell. So we ran down to see if there was an in person lottery...there wasn't. Only on LuckySeats.com PRO TIP: an hour before any show, the remaining tix are half off. We got amazing tickets in the orchestra, 7 rows back! $104.50 each. Balcony was $69.50, mezzanine was $89.50, so we sprung for the Orchestra seats! Great and wonderful experience! I've been to the Buell Theater four times and figured I'd write this review as a reminder to myself for some commonly asked questions. There is a parking garage for the entire performing arts center. So it doesn't matter what theater your going to, or just going downtown, there will be PLENTY of parking. This garage is HUGE! It varies on price depending on the show and time you enter the garage. One time it was $20 and just recently it was $15. Good price in my opinion. More in another review. Doors to enter the theater/lobby. These doors will typically open one hour prior to your show's start time. Example: Show time is 7:30PM these doors will open at 6:30PM. Two lines, one for if you already have a ticket and one for if you need to purchase tickets. When you walk in you will walk through a security screening. If something in your bag sets off the sensor they will ask you to step to the side. Glasses cases always set it off so try walking through it holding the glasses case. They quickly check your bag and and hold the wand to you. Then you're good to go. They always have a merch table in the lobby and up on the second floor :) They offer drinks as well. Doors to enter where you will sit. These door will typically open 30 minutes prior to your show's start time. Example: Show time is 7:30PM theses doors will open at 7PM. Ushers will stand at each door before they open. I would ask them if "this door" (the one they are standing it) is the closest to your seats. We asked and were told to go to another door that would be even closer! Very kind and helpful! Overall, always a great time at this theater. Can't wait to go back for another show! read more

I bought a ticket for Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Buell Theatre (Mezzanine E 206) but when I arrived, my seat had been sold to someone else. They moved me to a much worse seat with an obstructed view. When I asked for a refund or partial refund, customer service acted like they didn't know what I meant and refused, citing "policy." Always an enjoyable time at the Buell. They have a system down to perfection for performances as they easily usher people in and out of each show. Communication from DCPA is great regarding parking and traffic issues ahead of each show as construction and other events can cause delays in getting to the theater and finding parking. Since the production of Six ran for 80 minutes without an intermission, they were able to hold when the curtain went up by 15 minutes to accommodate for many patrons that were late. read more

I have been lucky to see shows in San Francisco, NYC, London etc... And while the Buell doesn't share the Grandiose of some of those venues it is a pretty amazing place. The whole center is gorgeous, clean and well laid out. The Buell has great acoustics, comfy seats, and get this.... a parking lot on site...omg! We were lucky to get tickets for Come From Away ( go see it it is great) and it was just a magical event. Maybe it was the cocktail you could purchase inside and consume at your seat??? This is something I have only seen in London. All in all go to a live show and visit the Buell Theatre you'll be in for a treat. read more

Denver's go to performance center for musicals, operas etc. this is definitely theater seating. It was nice though because I like a lot of theaters, the height between seats was good enough that your face wouldn't be too blocked by the people in front of you I only give it 4 stars because the organization of the lines and entryways seemed to just be up to the crowd at the time. Otherwise seats were comfy and temperature was good. I came here to watch SIX matinee and it was an excellent time. During one of the songs, the music and instruments were a touch too loud for the performer so music balance seemed tiny but off. The other songs the volume was fine. Refreshments weren't too bad but maybe I'm just scarred from the price of concert refreshments in LA. The first time I saw a show at The Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre was back in August 2017 when Frozen came to Denver. What an honor it was for The Denver Performing Arts Complex to be chosen to host Frozen's pre-Broadway tryout shows before it went on Broadway. I've been hooked ever since! As always, arrive early and allot for traffic, especially when thinking about parking. It can be a nightmare sometimes, especially when there are multiple houses with shows. Plus, you have to get vax checked, get tickets scanned and go through security. No biggie, unless you arrive close to show time. The Buell Theatre has a special place in my heart. I have seen a countless number of musicals here and each one brings its own unique story to the stage. Not only are there musicals, but on rare occasions they have plays, comedians, concerts, podcasts and more. There's always something fun in the works. The decor and layout may not be the most upscale or grandest to look at, but it does have its own unique charm. It's actually been newly renovated during the shutdown and there are new signs which are helpful to locate the restrooms, different levels and your seats. They've also added a family restroom next to coat check and they have a nursing room in the main lobby, house right women's restroom. They really have thought of everyone and everything! Not to mention, the ushers and security staff are helpful and always willing to go above and beyond. But beware, all musical productions have a no video and no photography rule while the show is on. If you are caught, you will be approached during the show. As for the seats, like most venues, the rows are crammed and can be an issue for taller people, but should be comfortable for most. It may feel awesome to get tickets in the first several rows, but you'll most likely be craning your neck the whole time. I suggest the upper orchestra or even the Mezzanine. You really can't go wrong with most of the seats in the house. All in all, it's a real treat to come see a show at The Buell. And hey, you might become hooked like I did and become a season subscriber. It may be the best thing you've ever done. read more

I really enjoy this whole theatre set up, all in one place. The Buell has comfortable seats, a nice slope so each seat has a good view and lots of doors to exit from. Parking is easy, usually $10.00 for the night inside the parking structure. I enter in Arapahoe and go up to level 7, that way there aren't as many cars when you leave. I never wait more that a few minutes, if that for the elevator. I just wish they would open up the restaurants that were there pre pandemic. It's tough now to get a meal before the show. read more

Beautiful venue, helpful caring, friendly staff. Our one issue as we saw Mama Mia last night. We were sitting in accessible seating. ALLLLL night long the ushers paraded back and forth in front of us with their no camera signs, stomping back and forth if they thought they saw someone with a camera. Not once did they ever end of speaking to anyone because by the time they got to the person they had put their phone away. It was ridiculous and much more distracting than someone checking the time on their phone! Calm down. read more

I still remember the moment I heard Michael Jackson had died--Thursday, June 25, 2009. Max was barely two months old. Meg and I had just dropped him off with Patty and Fred and were on our way to the temple. Surprisingly, the news made me emotional . I remember looking out the window, embarrassed by my tears. Why was I crying? It was his music , his artistry, the passion he put into everything he did. His unique talent, the tragic arcs of his life, the pain he carried--it made me realize what had been lost. The world would never see anyone like him again. Fast forward to tonight, Meg and I got to see MJ The Musical in the Buell Theater at the Denver Arts Complex, a place I love . There's something about taking my sweetheart for dinner and a show that just feels right . The show was absolutely incredible. The storyline, the sets, the dancing , the music, the singing--I was grooving in my seat. We couldn't get enough of it. We clapped, cheered, and were just buzzing with excitement the whole way home, talking about the performance. If you can, grab some tickets rn . Take your sweetheart, kids, anyone who appreciates a good beat and some slick moves. It's a must-see!!! read more

The Lion King play was fantastic! Unfortunately the venue, Buell Theater, specifically the concessions situation, was horrible. I was not allowed to pay cash for concessions even though state law requires them to accept cash (C.R.S. 11-61-102). I was rudely informed I would have to go through the hassle of having to use a machine, located outside, to convert cash to a card, to pay for an already horribly overpriced beverage. I could not access this machine outside without risk of being denied reentry. I also do not know how this machine works, and I am hesitant to trust it with my money. It seems to me it would be far more convenient for everybody involved to simply comply with the law and accept cash payment. I am extremely disappointed in the customer service, or rather lack thereof, especially after having paid so much for these tickets. I hope in the future the producers of these wonderful plays will find a much more respectable venue. I strongly recommend against attending this horrible venue for any event. read more

What a wonderful and historic place. We went to see Hamilton and the way the crowd was handled was perfect. You had to show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination. They had 4 entrance stations and the lines went fast. Once inside you could avail yourself to a beverage of your choosing and also prepay for once at intermission. What a wonderful idea. The Staff is there to ensure you have the best time possible. They will actually walk you all the way to your seat. The acoustics are awesome. They make it easy to hear every word said on stage. Nice venue in the downtown. Came here for a ballet show and it was quite busy. I lived not far, so I decided to walk here and avoid all the vehicle traffic. The theatre was very efficient, my ticket was at will-call. I picked it up and went straight in. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The show itself was amazing and left me in awe. My seat had great views of the performance, however the only complaint I have are the people behind me. They were a younger crowd and were making a lot of noises. Not a big deal.
