First off, the service is great! Lisa is a true server, bartendar, great front- gal! The ambiance is warm and inviting. Brown onion is a great restaurant/pub in Steger. They have daily specials that are very affordable. Monday is our normal Rib Night. I have yet to have a bad meal from Brown Onion. They also have bingo and other entertainment on various nights. read more

I wish I could review their food or drinks, but it's impossible to even get a beer. We waited for almost 10 minutes... the bartender (an older woman) was standing right in front of us but would not acknowledge us. Another couple came in shortly after us. They left out of frustration, and we followed closely behind. We watched a customer reach behind the bar to serve himself... so maybe that's what you have to do if you want service there. read more

My wife and I went there Friday night August 26th, we sat at the bar and the bartender/waitress was the most rudest person we have ever encountered. We had one drink and left, she basically told to leave, she was so mean. Its a shame. because when they opened, they had a Manager, and better staff. The food is good, but the staff is lousey now. Food quality is quite good at this establishment; I would consider it to be just as much a restaurant as a bar. The major issue I found with this place would be the fact that it can easily get crowded in there. Another issue would be noise level. Both can be remedied by coming at the right time of day (around lunchtime rather than in the late evening). Not the best place for a romantic date; more suited for a get-together with friends. Also a good place to eat for people intensely into watching sports on TV that don't want to miss a second of the "big game": they have seven flat-screen TVs in there to watch! read more

Ordered take out. When I got home, 2 sides were missing & the tomato & lettuce were not on my sandwich. Called to let them know & spoke with Kirsten who stated she was the manager. I was immediately met with attitude and rudeness. I was given the option of going back to get my missing items or a credit. I asked if they could deliver the missing items as we had company & going back was very inconvenient & rude to my guests. I was told they don't deliver & advised again very rudely I could either come back or get a credit. I asked if I would be reimbursed for my gas & time & was rudely told 'no'...When I asked for the manager, Kirsten proceeded to declare her name and spell it. I asked the others in my party if they wanted the credit or to go back & advised them the person I was speaking with was not providing good customer service, to which was met with the call being disconnected. This is the THIRD time we've been met with incorrect/missing orders and blatant rudeness & attitude when brought to their attention. My family and I walked into the restaurant and a customer told us we seat ourselves. After seating ourselves and waiting over ten minutes our waitress, Kirsten St. Pierre, comes over and takes our drink order. However, she gave us a look of disgust and spoke like we were wasting her time. As Kirsten walked away, my wife mentioned she felt uncomfortable with how rude the waitress treated us. I said we should stay and at least try the food. Kirsten came back after another ten minutes with our drinks. I asked her what dressings they had for salad. Kirsten replied, "The salad bar is over there so you can go find out for yourself." My wife was appalled by her statement and my seven-year old wanted to leave. I told Kirsten, "You are being rude. It is our first time here so I didn't know about the salad bar being over there." Kirsten replied, "No, you are rude for sitting yourself instead of waiting to be sat." Kirsten continued to tell us how swamped she is and to look around at all the customers she needed to take care of besides us. At that moment my wife said she wanted to leave, as I went to pay for the drinks Kirsten brought out, she rushed away from the table. We will not be visiting this restaurant again due to the unkind and unprofessional waitress we had. read more

My father and I walked in to the place and the hostess just kinda looked at us, we asked to be seated at which point the hostess says "well these few booths are reserved but there are booths here and here (gesturing to booths) that you can sit at," so we just sat ourselves instead of being seated by the hostess. What was her purpose then? I still have no idea. Waitress came rather quickly and handed us the menus, and starts to rattle off the "specials," but forgot them halfway through. We said that's fine, we will just look at the menu. My father decided on one of their 8oz (1/2 pound) pub burgers, and because the menu said beef sandwiches come with cheese, sweet peppers, grilled onions, and mushrooms, I order the beef sandwich hold the mushrooms. Waitress says "oh those dont come on there anyway." Cool, no problem. We get our food, and my father's burger is definitely not 1/2 lb. It seriously looked like the frozen bubba burgers I make at home all the time for a quarter of the price. Meanwhile, my sandwich just has sweet peppers, and is rather dry. I send it back requesting the cheese I thought came on it, as well as some juice for the beef (I totally forgot about the grilled onions but didn't miss them anyway). Sandwich comes back and looks right finally, so I dig it. Tasted like rubber. The condiments at our table were very watery, and some of the bottles were even missing their caps. We get the bill and when its all said and done, it averaged out to about $16 each, for meals that neither of us finished. The only saving grace was that they carry decent craft beers. read more

Basically a local pub with some standout menu items. While there is a hostess stand at the (rear) parking lot entrance, you seat yourself. Only been twice, but, surprisingly, for me the hamburger (Brawny Burger it's called) was outstanding, locally sourced meat I was told. Eight ounces, grilled (not fried) to order. Local steakhouse quality and taste in all respects, more tasty even than some area steakhouses. The server in both visits was very attentive and friendly, checking back a number of times. Onion soup could be thicker, with a cheese crust. Interesting other standard menu items to try. Purse hangers - and also USB outlets at the bar, I think. We both got cheeseburgers and waffle fries carry out. It was quick, and the cheeseburger was soooo good. And huge. And my wife loved the wings - and she's really picky about wings. Restaurant is small but pretty nice inside. This is a branch of Scrementi's just south of this location. Waitress was cool. Had the Italian sausage that came like an elongated patty. This is a very very small scale remake of the original Brown Onion restaurant that was in South Chicago Heights for many years. The Scrementi family is still at the helm. The ambience is pleasant, with the bar being the focal point of the room. The menu is very limited, with the dishes offered pretty basic n common.....steak sandwich, beef sandwich, hamburger, Italian sausage sandwich. You like meat???? They got the freaking meat! If you don't like meat, or heavy fat laden foods, you might be out of luck. Don't expect anything modern or trendy......the $11 non meat salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, large chunks of raw veggies & squares of some kind of cheese. Meh. The service was good. The bartender seen this and rolled her eyes, I tried a bite and couldn't agree more. She asked if we liked it and we both said no. My friend then mentions she was ready to pay, and this bar tender literally YELLED ACROSS THE BAR "WELL YOU HAVE TO FRIGGIN PAY". I was absolutely disgusted, my friend said CALMLY might I add. The food is awesome. This establishment is owned by one of the Scrementi brothers. If anyone remembers the old place off of Chicago Road then you can imagine the vibe this place has. I'm so glad that I chose to spend my Valentines Day at Brown Onion. The atmosphere was perfect... roses everywhere with heart decor. Very cozy!!! The service was great. I was greeted at the door and they told me where a charging port was so that I could charge my phone while I ate. The food was delicious and the chef even came out to check on me!!! UGH... Where do I begin?? We were immediately sat, where our table had menus and silverware on it. It took the server 10 minutes to come to our table and ask us for our drinks. We started out with just ordering water. It took her 10 minutes to bring that! I got up to go to the washroom, and I told my husband to meet me in the car, that I did not want to stay. When I came out of the washroom, our server was taking his order. I should have just kept walking out the door. What a hot mess! The soup of the day was actually chili. And it was just very mediocre. I thought that they would bring that out first, but it came with our sandwiches. My chili was ice cold. Had to send it back. My husband ordered Italian beef sandwich with mozzarella. $0.95 for cheese. What a rip off. I had a patty melt, which was very mediocre at best. I have ordered from this establishment many times. However, the last few times my fries have been hard. When I called to explain that not only my fries but my coworkers fries were hard, some lady answered the phone with an attitude. While explaining the situation, the lady blamed me for my fries being hard stating that "I took over an hour to get to the restaurant." I was told that my order would be ready in 15 minutes, I waited an additional five minutes to make sure my order would be done because when I came on time for a previous order, it was not done. Anyway, the lady was rude, continuously cut me off, and then proceeded to say well "what do you want me to do and what do you want." I will not be ordering from here ever again!!! Very rude lady who appeared to already have an attitude when I went to pick up my food. She needs to be taught better customer service skills or understand that she is in the wrong profession to be speaking to customers in a demeaning manner.
