I eat here at least once when I visit Live Oak. This is one of the best restaurants in town--although the competition in Live Oak is not that fierce... Menu variety is decent--with steak, seafood, salads, sandwiches, burgers and more. We were at a large table, and the service was slow and sometimes forgetful. Greatest food in town! Had the chicken that came smothered in sauteed bell peppers and onions and melted cheese. The chicken was a little dry and cut into pieces but it was good overall. Came with your choice of a side I chose grilled vegetables and it was a huge portion of vegetables yum! Husband got the Nachos it consisted of Doritos, beef, cheese, lettuce, salsa, tomato and sour cream. It was good also if you don't mind the heaviness of nachos. They have odd hours, are only open Mon- Fri and are closed on the weekend. They have a full bar and feature several choices of beer, and a few choices for wine. read more

Loved my dinner here! Came with a relative and was seated immediately! Got our drinks very quickly, which came with crushed ice, a huge plus in my eyes! The food took a little while to come out, but my relative assured me it wa just because everything came out fresh. I got a HUGE plate of fried shrimp and fries for VERY cheap, but it sure didn't taste cheap! Delicious home-cooked tasting food, a friendly atmosphere, and friendly staff. Excellent food, fast and superb service, relaxed, inviting atmosphere. I was delighted to discover that I could get a healthy fish dish here with grilled sway, black beans and rice and tomatoes. It was the special and well worth the $10. It hit the spot! The food came out at lightning speed and the server was very attentive. The only tiny thing I would improve with this place is switching out the styrofoam cups for some biodegradable corn starch ones or just plain old real glasses. I am not sure which the Brown Lantern is, but it was just okay. Nothing to write home about, but service was good and food selections were plentiful. I'm pretty impressed with the food. As someone who stays on a bodybuilding strict marco count, I'll have to say the fried entrée was pretty good! It was of course very busy (Friday night) and looks as though it's a local favorite. Could use a little more parking. The bar was nice except for overly flirty gals. Believe me I can hold my own, so don't get too confident here girls. Other than that, I'd probably come back when in town. read more

Will never go back after the last experience I had there. I don't know if they changed owners or the management but it is definitely for the worst. We had a party of four and were waiting for the last guy to show and they refused to seat us until he arrived. We wanted to sit down and have some drinks before we ate but we're told those are the rules??? We came here to eat, not play rules games. It really portrays itself as a bar and not a restaurant. The tables were sticky as if drinks had been spilled. Our waiter made very few stops at our table. The food was decent and the ranch was amazing. We tried this place on a recommendation from locals in Lake City. It was delicious. We tried the fried pickles, popcorn shrimp dinner and the French dip sandwich. All three were great! The pickles and fries that came with our meals were crispy. The mountain of popcorn shrimp was also crispy with a beautiful batter. Loved the amount of meat on the fresh bread for the sammy. We were heading back home rolling down I-10 when the hungry bug bit us. We saw a billboard sign advertising "The Brown Lantern" and so we decided to check it out. Well, it was a little farther than we anticipated and since we're not locals, we almost abandoned our search and turned around...Glad we didn't! The place is very quaint and rustic looking but don't be deceived. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, a fully stocked bar and outstanding food and wonderful service. I'm normally not a huge Cole slaw fan but theirs was the best that I've ever had. This may sound crazy, but I ordered a simple hamburger steak and so did my wife. That meal was delicious! The night before, we dropped $215 in an upscale Destin restaurant that paled in comparison to the The Brown Latern. Do yourself a favor and just go this local favorite. LEE read more

We've dined here several times and it has been consistently good. (All visits were during oyster season as I'm an oyster fiend.) Service has been good, usually quick and always accurate. The reason we come here? GULF OYSTERS! Hands-down, these are the best fried oysters I've had in my life. And I've had a bunch. The breading is light, well-seasoned and crispy and the oysters have a wonderful flavor that you can't get from anything but really fresh or caught-that-day oysters. The slaw is good--not too sweet and isn't drowning in liquid, and the potatoes are always perfectly baked. My husband usually has the fish and chips. Shrimp and scallop dinner is excellent and of course a good old fashioned cheeseburger. The atmosphere is inviting and lively especially on Friday nights and the staff are 100% there with a smile and sincerely friendly ensuring you have the best overall experience for a night out in Suwannee County. They are the icing on the cake, which their deserts are decadent and a good to go order, when your to full to eat it there.
