I'm not understanding the poor reviews. I am a tourist and my hotel concierge recommended this place for their pancakes. Let me tell you; they were SMASHING. However, if you are in a rush this place just isn't for you. This is a relax and enjoy your meal kinda place. The vibe I get from the staff is a "life is good, so relax" feeling. As an American, I really appreciate not being rushed so they can turn the table over quickly. Let's talk food! The buttermilk pancakes are as good as the ones my Grandmother used to make as a southern boy growing up in a bygone era. The side of scrambled had a surprise sprinkling of chives that really complemented the taste profile. The staff was so cool and worked well together and the food was delicious. Take a chill pill and visit; it's worth it!

The Breakfast Club was conveniently located right across from out hotel in Amsterdam. We ate here every morning for 4 days, so I think we tried just about everything on the menu! It is a very busy restaurant, but we were always seated quickly and the service was nice and fast. The overnight oatmeal with fruit was always delicious, but I felt like the more savory dishes lacked flavor. The crayfish brioche (pictured) was a great concept however it lacked simple seasoning like salt. There is so much potential for this sandwhich to be amazing! The sweet BLT (didn't get to take a pic) was much better IMO. The matcha pancakes, one of their most "famous" dishes, were average in taste and just tasted like matcha powder was dumped in the mix. Warning: this restaurant is VERY expensive. Expensive for Amsterdam, too. Expect to pay around 25-30€ for a breakfast with coffee, juice, and main dish.

With this one, I am going to go against the (review) flow, and will give it 4 stars. I was doubting between 3 or 4, but went for 4 in the end, because that is what reflected my experience today. My very good friend and I went for a quick breakfast before we drove for the airport. I have been wanting to visit this place since they opened. But as we walked in today, I got a bit nervous. I have seen the rather unfavourable reviews, so I really hoped my friend's last meal on her trip would bot turn out to be a debacle. To my pleasant surprise, however, we had nothing to complain about. We each had 2 cappuccinos and the buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit. The pancakes were delicious, and the fruit was indeed fresh. The presentation was also much nicer than I have seen on previous photos here on Yelp. Also the cappuccinos were delectable. Our bill was 15 euro each, which I think is normal for what we had (if compared with other brunch places in Amsterdam). Maybe we had a good day, maybe it was great because it was not too busy as it was Wednesday morning. If I feel the same way in the future, depends on how my future visits play out. In conclusion, my experience was great and as I am biased towards American-style pancakes, my vote was swayed towards 4 stars.

Food: Mexico City, pancakes with fresh fruit Beverages: red (smoothie). Chocolate milk

This place is great! The food was good although a little overpriced this is probably the best place I've had a bite to eat yet. I got the Mexico City (huevos rancheros) which was delicious. I also got the red smoothie which was really well made. My girlfriend got the pancakes with fresh fruit. The pankaces were fluffy and it was really good even though it had a bit much of powdered sugar. I'm not a pancake person however these were probably the best pancakes I've ever had. I'd def recommend if you're staying close by.

Scrambled eggs with mushrooms on toast, bernaise eggs Benny

The ginger and orange mint tea- yummy. Cappuccino - yummy. Coffee - watery The reason for 3 stars; the food was decent but it took 45 minutes to come out! The drinks come out fairly quickly and so did croissants (I noticed.) However, my boyfriend's eggs Benedict and my eggs on toast took so long, it was eating up into my limited sightseeing time.

Red juice and hot chocolate

After finishing my meal, I checked their rating on yelp and I was surprised. Their establishment is way too good to be rated lower than a 4.5! We came here really early (perhaps 8/9am) and it wasn't that busy yet. There was only 2 people dining there so it was quiet and calm on a rainy day. The seating arrangements were really cute with there being benches and pillows to make it feel like you're having breakfast on the couch sort of. Service was good, even though we knew she was a bit ticked off that we didn't know what we were doing but that's on our end. I got the pancakes with fruit and my bf got the Mexico City. I'm usually not a pancakes person but their photos made it look so so good and it was actually really good!! Probably the best pancakes I've had in awhile that almost made me a pancake person! The pancake had a lot of powdered sugar so it was on the sweet side so keep that in mind. My bf's dish, was the best best best thing ever!! His looked really good and you can smell how delicious it was! I traded with him halfway and I fell in love with it that if I wasn't so full, I would've ordered seconds. All of the flavors were so well together and I just can't express how much I love that dish! But other than their dishes, we also ordered a hot chocolate and juice (red). The hot chocolate was so damn good and the juice was sooooo good as well!! I'm so surprised this place isn't rated 5 overall???

Pancakes with fresh fruit!

Nice place but nothing too special. I had pancakes with fruit and they were really good but I had to wait to be served for a really long time...I had to stand up and order because no one come to our table, so not really happy in the end! Service matters :)

The cafe recently opened near the Hoofddorplein and is already getting very popular with the locals. I totally get why, since Bert makes a delicious coffee and is also a very cool guy who is in for a little chat. The good reputation of their Antwerp location also does not hurt at all. Antwerp location? Well yes, Caffènation is a much loved coffeeshop in Antwerp. We are very lucky that Bert fell in serious love with a Dutch girl because that is what brought him here! And now he owns the Caffènation location here in Ansterdam. Cool stuff right? Coffee lovers will really enjoy the big drinks menu at this place which offers a lot of different choices like cappuccino and espresso but also more adventurous drinks like a 'Ginger Spice' or a 'Bitter Moon'. Last few times I went with a flat white (like usual, they are my favorite!) and that tasted great. The space is quite big and has a lot of cosy spots to sit. You can even come over with a group of friends since in the downstairs area are a lot of seats. Great right?! Not so crowded like most city center spots and a way nicer and more personal vibe. I can imagine this place would do great for working or studying as well. Just go soon because i'm sure this place be discovered by the big crowds soon!

First of all, the service/the owner was up his game in a very attentive and polite way, at the same time very laid back chill kinda way. Love that about a place as much as I love my good cappuccino. We ordered one cappuccino and one latte, 2 sweets: pear chocolate cake and fruit passion pastry. The cappuccino is really good, so they have my blessing from now on. Also the sweets were good, I didn't enjoyed that much my pear chocolate cake and I went and took another fruit passion pastry and the guy was sorry I didn't like it, so nice :) And this is one big coffee place, very chill sfeer, not your usual small crowded hipster coffee place. And it's pretty close from Vondel Park :) You will be seeing more of me and my friends there, I always take my friends in the places I love.

Winkel 43 is a legendary stop right on the corner of Westerstraat and Noordermarkt in the Jordaan,…read moreperfectly situated along the Prinsengracht canals and just a short walk from the Anne Frank House. While it functions as a cozy, traditional Dutch brown café, virtually everyone comes here for one main reason: the famous Dutch apple pie (*appeltaart*). It completely lives up to the reputation. Served warm with a massive dollop of fresh whipped cream, it's thick, perfectly spiced, and has an almost cake-like crust that sets it apart. Pairing a slice with a fresh mint tea is pretty much mandatory. Because of its status and location, it's almost always buzzing with people--especially on market days--but the staff manages the perpetual queue remarkably fast. Snagging a table on the outdoor terrace for some people-watching along the canal is hard to beat. Whether you're taking visitors around the neighborhood or just out exploring the Jordaan.

I'd say about 95% of the people were ordering the apple pie, so of course we had to get one to see what the hype was about. The apple pie is pretty unique, it's basically a big chunk of cooked apple topped with a sweet, crumbly cookie like crust. The flavor reminded me of those little brown biscuits you get as airplane snacks... basically Biscoff cookies. lol!!! Overall, you really taste the natural apple flavor along with that Biscoff like cookie flavor. The pie itself isn't very sweet, which I actually liked, but adding some whipped cream definitely brings up the sweetness and makes it even better. The setup is pretty straightforward: get in line, order and pay, pick up your food, then find your own seat. It's definitely a popular spot, so be prepared for the crowd and a bit of a wait.

We were here three times during our stay in Amsterdam, and I think I found my brand new favorite coffee shop in the city, and I was really sad that I had to leave it behind when our vacation was over. The most convenient part is that it was within walking distance of our hotel and right across from the train station. To keep a piece of Koffie Academie with me back at home in the States, I chose to buy a bag of their Rwanda-style coffee beans. On our first visit, I just had their cappuccino alone since it was later in the afternoon and I had already had lunch, but during the second and third visit, I tried their croissants. Amsterdam, hands down, has the BEST coffee ever. I think way better than the coffee in other European countries we've visited during our trip so far. I had to put sugar in my cappuccino during every visit to make it sweeter (sugar cubes and sugar packets are available). This was my parents' second time in Amsterdam and they stuck with their mochas, which they had before. Both the croissants I had were flaky on the outside and buttery on the inside. My mom had their coconut square treat which, I believe, had either strawberries or raspberries inside with a solid chocolate topping. While I didn't get the chance to try it, I thought that it looked delicious! I think I want to try this during my next trip to Amsterdam. Koffie Academie, you have not been forgotten in my memory. Can't wait to see you again upon my return to Amsterdam in the near future!
