It had been years since we had visited, and we were excited to spend the day walking around the little town and enjoying a meal at one of the places it's known for. We arrived around 11 a.m., and it was the perfect timing. There was plenty of parking, and we were able to walk right in and get seated. After lunch, we spent about an hour shopping around town, and when we came back through, the parking lot was packed and the sidewalks were much busier. I would definitely recommend arriving earlier if you want a more relaxed experience. Even though it was August, the weather was surprisingly beautiful, with temperatures in the low 70s, so we decided to sit out on the veranda. It was such a great choice. The view was peaceful, there was a nice breeze, and it felt like we were enjoying lunch somewhere special rather than just sitting inside a busy restaurant. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Our waitress was wonderful--very attentive and friendly. We must have been on the same wavelength because every time I asked for her opinion between two choices, she picked the exact one I was already leaning toward without me telling her. Her recommendations were spot on! We both ordered the trio, which allows you to choose three items from a selected menu. We each started with the white chili, and it was perfect for the cooler summer day. It was warm, comforting, and full of flavor. For my main dish, I chose the turkey melt on a croissant. The croissant was flaky, buttery, and absolutely delicious. I'm trying to cut back on carbs, but that plan went out the window because it was just too good. I did save half of the sandwich for the ride home, but there was no way I was leaving that croissant behind! My bestie ordered the chicken salad croissant, and she loved it as well. She said the chicken salad was flavorful, moist, and delicious, and the croissant made it even better. Of course, we couldn't leave without trying dessert. The Blue Owl is famous for their Levee High Apple Pie, but neither of us were really craving apple pie that day. Instead, we went inside to look at the dessert display, and that might have been the hardest decision of the whole visit. Everything looked amazing! I was torn between the chocolate cream pie and the French silk, and ultimately chose the French silk. It was very smooth and rich, and the flavor was delicious. My only complaint was that I personally would have preferred more whipped cream on top, and the crust was a little firmer than I like. It wasn't bad at all--it just wasn't my favorite dessert choice. If I went back, I would probably try something different next time. My bestie chose the gooey butter cheesecake, and that one was a winner. The crust was made from a gooey butter cookie, and it was such a unique and delicious twist. Overall, we had such a great day in Kimmswick. It was the perfect little escape before summer ends and school starts back up. A beautiful walk through a charming town, great conversation with a best friend, and a delicious meal made for a wonderful day. We're already looking forward to coming back!

Our food was just fine. The waffle was sweet and fluffy. The Berry Salad was exactly as described: iceberg, lettuce, berries, pecans. The berries were fresh; the chicken was heavily seasoned (mostly salty and saturated) and the poppyseed dressing was very sweet. The quiche had plenty of spinach in it but was rather rubbery (I know quiche can be tricky-- it has a really long cooking time so it can't be made to order, and rewarming does it no favors) and the potato soup was okay. Both the salad and the quiche/soup combo had a croissant on the side; they seemed similar to the ones purchased by the dozen at Costco. Mine seemed dry on the outside with a faint moldy taste in the bottom. The patio was very pleasant, and inside looked cozy. The staff did a great job of making everyone feel welcome and keeping our glasses refilled and such. There's a big parking lot adjacent, though many of the spots say they're reserved for a different business. I saw that high chairs are available. Gendered restrooms are inside. They were supposed to be iced but came out lukewarm and burnt tasting. We couldn't taste a difference in any of the flavors-likely because it was so burnt tasting that's all we could taste. Neither of us liked our food. My husband's pancakes were dry and he said they tasted like they had been microwaved. My healthy bowl tasted like mostly old/not fresh ingredients. The Brussel sprouts were supposed to be shaved, but were instead halved and appeared/tasted like they were from the prior day. The Parmesan cheese was also prepackaged and not freshly grated, and for the price we paid ($50+) we didn't expect to be served food low-quality food. The only picture I took was of our coffee. Our server did the bare minimum. They weren't rude, but also weren't friendly. We ran out of Cholula sauce and she grabbed one from another table with people sitting there. Overall a very poor experience. Based completely on this one experience we would never return.

Love the cinnamon rolls and definitely don't shy away from the daily soups or sandwiches- we had the Greek soup this week and I'd eat that again in a heartbeat- so healthy and satisfying. I had their chicken salad on croissant with the soup and it's an old fashioned recipe- completely creamy and no chunks of anything or nuts in it. Fresh pastries and kolaches, scones, cookies displayed nicely in the front case. They didn't have sausage, egg, and cheese kolaches ready at the moment I was there, so we ended up ordering 3 bacon, egg, and cheese and 1 jalapeno sausage and cheese kolaches and everyone in my family thoroughly enjoyed them. We have an American kolache near us and everyone in the family said these were bigger and they enjoyed the taste of the dough much better. My son really enjoyed the jalapeno and cheese one. It was perfect for him B/c he doesn't like eggs and loves the jalapeno kick. I am super picky with my cinnamon rolls. My favorite cinnamon roll ever was from Bumbleberry Inn outside Zion National Park. I am always on the search for a similar roll. I almost didn't get one as I prefer traditional and the ones left were a little small in size. For same pricing (much larger), I opted to get one of their strawberry ones and try it out. It was very satisfactory. Nice and soft, good gooey center, and they use a fresh strawberry compote. It also tasted like it had maybe lemon zest or juice in it to add a pop of citrus. Flavor was spot on and I'll gladly get a cinnamon roll here again. I ordered a large Berry Sweet Smoothie to split between my 3 kids and they all loved the flavor. I loved that it was fresh and simple, clean ingredients-strawberries, bananas, Greek yogurt and milk. We try to avoid dyes and preservatives so I had reached out on fb messenger,maybe 20 minutes prior when I found the location on the map, and asked about things we may be able to order. I'm assuming it was the owner who replied, but she was quick to reply and assure me everything except the jello items were without. The girls on front staff confirmed they used a strawberry compote on the cinnamon roll and went over ingredients in the smoothie. This is much appreciative! I know it takes extra time and questions they usually don't get, but I'm very much an ingredient mom so I don't visit restaurants/bakeries often. I'm very appreciative of the ones that help me review ingredients! I also noticed they use Monin syrups and many of these are dye free so I know on our next visit if my kids would like a coffee drink, I'd be able to order them one! Okay and then lastly, the coffee...and truly main reason I stopped. They are working on a coffee menu, so I couldn't prepare what to order ahead of time. I'm very basic and don't do syrups, but my favorite drink is a flat white. I was a little nervous they wouldn't know how to make it but when I asked, she said she could definitely do that. The drink was a little low on the amount in cup but I assume that is because of how it is made. Certain drinks just have less ratio. My other worry is that the milk will always overwhelm the espresso flavor. This was balanced perfectly. I didn't feel like I was just drinking steamed milk foam. I could taste the espresso and it was a good, smooth flavor. I would for sure order this again. The only thing I might ask for next time is maybe just fill the rest of the cup space with some brewed coffee. Highly, highly would recommend making this a regular place if you are local or making it a designated stop, like we will, if you are a couple hours away.
