My partner and I started regularly visiting The Bowling Green about two months ago. We thought we'd found a great pub, local to our house that sells quality, well looked after real ales, the staff are always very polite and friendly and the pub atmosphere and general decor and layout is lovely. We have eaten there about 8 times now and unfortunately, I have had to complain about the food 3 times out of those 8. When they get it right, it's fantastic a varied menu, with food at a good price. However, when they get it wrong, it is very frustrating. Twice the food, once beef, once fish, has been overcooked, as if it had been heated up again in the microwave before being brought out to the table. On the third occasion, a pie had cold spots (as well as hot) in the middle. I had to wait 15 minutes for a new dinner to be cooked for me completely from scratch, while I sat and watched my partner eat his food. I find this most frustrating as if more care was taken, this would be the perfect pub for us. Why spoil a what could be a wonderful dining experience in a lovely pub, with nice staff and well kept real ales, by lack of care in the kitchen? So I am sorry to say, we won't be going back there again. What a shame.UPDATE: Since writing this review two years ago, I am pleased to say that we have started visiting The Bowling Green again regularly. Friendly staff, good ales and the food has been fine I haven't had to send any food back or had any complaints about it at all on my last 10 visits, since we started going again. I would now be happy to recommend the Bowling Green as somewhere to go and eat in Lichfield. read more
