On a night out with a friend of mine, she took me to the gay quarter for a night of fun. I use to go to Nightingales for their £1 a drink special and have been to a couple of the other bars a number of times, one of which use to be called Angels. We use to go there quite a lot but as my friend now lives in London we hadn't been for a while. I didn't know the place had been bought out and refurbished, when we arrived I was instantly impressed. From the outside the lights made the place look stylish and inviting. When we walked in we were greeted by smiles all round and a funky bass line. I'd say it was 50/50 male and female in there which gave the place a great vibe as the other places I've been in the area had a predominantly male crowd.

I'm biased. I'm a raver of sidewalk. I love the staff, the dj and even the bathroom attendant gets a hug from me. Two bottles for £6 yes please. Randomness spotted in the dance floor standard practise. Great vibe. Great music. But I am biased because I love the dj. That man literally saved my Life!

Unlike in the London bars, this place is clearly about good friends coming out to have a good time. A great mix of the older and younger lesbian and a very friendly and un-predatory place. We managed to wander in on Karaoke night (score), and there's nothing about really getting a feel for the place when people are warbling bad pop tunes down a microphone. There was a nice enough selection behind the bar and a few drink offers. There's a large beer garden with plenty of seating, a main bar area with a dinky DJ booth and another room with the obligatory pool table and additional seating. Surprisingly, there's only one toilet - and all night I had no problem in going for a tinkle. I wish I could move this bar down south with me, but I can't. And if I ever return to ole bham- I will certainly pop in again.

The venue is very deceptive, from the outside it looks like a small pub when infact it is a decent size club venue with a large room at the back for shows and performances. We were treated a very realistic Madonna impersonator complete with outfit changes and backing guitarist. I was surprised with the quality of the act that it was free entry all night, apparently this is the case all the time! Its safe to say a good night was had by all especially Jamie T who really harnessed his inner queen of pop. I will definitely be back to Eden soon i'm just gutted I left it so long before making a visit.

It gives me hostel / shared living room vibes. Staff were friendly and explained the 2 for 1 drink specials. We just went for an easy beer and wine before heading somewhere else for dinner. It's a decent spot for a quick drink or sitting outdoors on a sunny day. It would be nice if they tried to clean up the indoors a bit more although it was bright and cheery with good music.

It has a…read moreslightly different feeling to the other bars in the area that makes it work well as a daytime lunch/drinks spot as well as a top nighttime location. The bar is very elaborately designed with large chandeliers and art work on nearly every surface or wall. The designers/owners have definitely adopted the 'more is more' approach here and it has worked well for them. The bar feels cosy and full of personality with welcoming bar staff and an equally lovely outside area/courtyard. As we all know happy hours/two for one offers on cocktails are a very good thing....Loft lounge has a two for one on selected cocktails most evenings after work! The drinks are well made and taste as they should, on our last visit our drinks did take a little while to come but the bar was very busy so this was completely understandable. If you are in the area loft lounge is well worth a visit. Great for meetings, lunch or as I mentioned a little after work drink with friends. On weekends the DJ's are also pretty good so this place also makes a good start to any night out. Ill definitely be back soon.

After already having two successful restaurants in Manchester, I was very excited about visiting Bistro 1847 after hearing only good things about it. Set in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, I thought it was strange to open a restaurant here. Especially after 6pm it is the only place open usually! But the atmosphere of the restaurant complements the peacefulness of the arcade. The interior of the Bistro is minimalistic and modern. Being someone who is allergic to Dairy and Wheat intolerant (I know!), Bistro 1847 is one of few places I don't feel weird at. The whole menu is Vegetarian, with dishes that can be adjusted to vegan or gluten free or both in my view. My and my friend were feeling fat so we both went for three courses. I had the curried Swede Cauliflower, Cashew nut butter and cinnamon cornflakes. So many flavours going on in a small parcel was a great choice. For the main I had "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" (all dishes have these quirky little names!) which is a modern Veggie twist on fish and chips in case you hadn't guessed! I had the vegan version which had two huge pieces of smoked tofu which I really struggled to finish along with the chunky chips! I wasn't defeated and enjoyed all parts of the meal. For desert I had the "Good ol fashioned lover boy" I enjoyed it although I thought maybe the chocolate was a bit over powering as was so much going on. But the jelly was a nice compliment to the richness. The menu contains a large selection of cocktails and deserts for sharing if you and your friends are in search of lots of sweetness. This was my third visit on a Sunday since opening and has been progressively busier each time which is great to see. Bistro 1847 is a very relaxing experience and ideal place for a date or a catch up with a friend. And of course the food is amazing!

Oo-ee this is indeed a very classy vegetarian restaurant…read more The decor is modern, simple and stylish - shades of white and grey, nice white table linen, with a few tables downstairs, and more upstairs on the mezzanine level. There's a large window looking on to the arcade, which is great for watching people come and go. The food was fantastic. It's a fixed price menu, at £19 for two courses, and £25 for three. There's also a pricier tasting menu - the couple sitting next to me had chosen that option, and were really enjoying it. To start, I had the puy lentils, with roasted carrot, spring onions and garlic tofu. The tofu was done as a silky sauce - I'd never had tofu prepared in that way, and I thought it was really delicious. For main course, I chose the bell pepper ragu, with polenta. Again this was superb, with the polenta served as crisp little triangles on top. Both my courses were gluten free, as well as vegan, and their menu is very clear to understand. It feels like the sort of place you can completely trust to get things right. Service was quick and friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere, with other diners just quietly enjoying their meals just as much as I was. I'll definitely be back here next time in Birmingham, and I'll look out for their restaurants in other cities too.
