Bollywood is an Indian -Chinese fusion food truck. I happen to run across them right across from the urban lights at LACMA where tons of different food trucks cycle in at during lunch hours. They offer tons of different combos for both Chinese and Indian. I decided to try the biryani with lamb which I found to be quite delightful. Plenty of well seasoned moist and tender lamb paired with seasons basmati rice. Not salty at all, just very aromatic and authentic tasting. I also ordered some chicken korma which tasted like an Indian style tomato soup. Chicken was tender and blended perfectly with the korma sauce. The masala was probably the highlight of the everything, OUTSTANDING. So much flavor and just went perfect with the white basmati rice

Vada pav ($5). Pretty tasty, if not authentic to the way it's made in Mumbai or Pune. Wish they used bread rolls instead of hamburger bun.

This Indian and Pakistani food truck has an unintelligible menu---it's a jumble of small-print words, partially obscured with a cross-hatch screen, along with random photos and a total lack of descriptions. The vegan combo ($8) was a hasty 8.5 x 11 print-out on the side of the truck, but the combo isn't actually vegan, because they serve you naan (which is traditionally made with yogurt kneaded into the dough). It wasn't clear to me that the owner knows naan is not vegan. That said, once I informed the owner that I don't eat naan, she gave me more side salad, but otherwise doesn't have a vegan bread like chapati, roti or poori. The daal was too salty and the vegetable curry overcooked. Also, they annoyingly dumped red and green chutney onto the dish without asking me if I wanted that. This made the dishes unbelievably spicy and hard to eat. They don't have brown rice, which is a shame. The vada pav ($5) wasn't bad, though; this is a potato dumpling in a hamburger bun. It's the quintessential street food of Mumbai and Pune. They do a pretty good job with it here. Once again, get it without the chutneys, unless you want a spicy mess. Expect a long wait for your food. Also, if you try to look at the menu, the woman running the truck will start talking to you. She's a good salesperson, but sometimes you just want to be left alone. I wish this truck were better, because I'm sick of the other ones in my area.

Fried Chicken Sandwich. Amazing!
J S.

Wow, this Fried Chicken sandwich.... Crispy batter/breading, moist/tender white meat (i usually go for dark meat with chicken but this white meat was not dry at all), some sort of magical orange sauce, and some light Indian/Asian-ish seasoning. Just a hint of spiciness and the experience is complete. Just an FYI, this is not a neatly eaten meal. You're gonna get a little dirty/saucy, but they wrap it up well in the paper foil thing so you can stay relatively clean if you're a neat eater. Will order again for sure!

Mango lassi

Easy 5 stars. Superb service and food. The owners were so kind and generous. I got the entree combo which comes with 2 entrees but they are half sized . So the option to try multiple things is offered here and affordably ! I picked the chicken tikka masala and chicken korma . This was so good the korma had a good amount of tomato flavor but it was over powering 8/10. The chicken masala was some of the best I've had comparable to cardamoms 10/10. I also got the lamb biryani which surprised me quite a bit. The rice had a slight lime flavor with a little hint of salt but just the right amount so it felt quite healthy. The lamb pieces were tender and super tasty 9/10. The mango lassi tasted like they blended a fresh mango and added a little yogurt super delicious 10/10!

It's rare to find Indian / chinese fusion in Los Angeles. This truck delivers that perfect combination. Food has a nice flavor and the price is fair. The service is very prompt and friendly. The chicken chow mein combo has a nice flavor. The chicken crispy sandwich was very crispy and has a nice kick to it.

Lamb korma and samosa chaat with mango lassi
Zack S.

Oh man, I literally just finished my food and this place is FANTASTIC. I'm Indian/Pakistani and I know good desi food and this is...it. I had the lamb korma (chefs suggestion) and my wife had the samosa chaat. The flavors were both excellent, but the lamb is truly on another level. Thank god it's a good truck or I'd be here every day.

Veggie chow mein and fried rice. Super salty! Don't buy!
Neil S.

I ordered the Chinese combo with veggie chow mein and fried rice with a spring roll and my goodness was this thing SALTY! I mean like SUPER SALTY! Can't even try to enjoy this. Smh. Shame on me for ordering this but Chinese food shouldn't even be on this menu! They should simplify things on this truck and just stick to Indian food. Although I did hear some complaints about that as well.

$15 for cold chicken curry. There wasn't even a line waiting. Do not recommend. Owner looks as though he could care less.

The staff was genuinely warm and helpful, guiding us through a very large menu that could honestly take a minute to narrow down. We landed on the vegetable korma, paneer saag, and garlic naan, all solid choices. But the saag completely stole the show. Bright, fresh, and loaded with ginger and aromatics. We could not stop eating it. Service is casual in the best way. Everything comes out in to-go containers even if you're dining in, which ends up being perfect because the portions are generous. This is clearly a prime pit stop for anyone heading over the Grapevine, and you'll absolutely have leftovers for the road. They also offer complimentary chai, which is an instant win for me, and the TVs playing Indian music videos are mesmerizing and kept me entertained as we awaited our meal. What I didn't like was how my boyfriend was treated and how long it took to get my mango lassi and the papadum appetizer and the rest of the vegetarian combo meal we ordered. We waited around 25 min and finally flagged down the server to ask about the mango lassi and the food. The table behind us that arrived some time after we did were given their papadum starter, drinks, and food before we were. What was more, another server came with our food and joked our kufta dish has chicken in it. Then he said he's kidding. This was not funny. I am, after all, vegetarian. The kuftas were too thick and hard to eat with naan. I did like the garlic basic naan. The rotis were too tough. We took the leftovers but neither of us actually wanted the food. I discarded all of it. This is most unlike us as we hate wasting food but the whole experience and food itself left a bad taste in my mouth. We came here very hungry after a long day. We browsed for restaurants open after 10pm on Sunday and finally came across this place. My boyfriend had come to visit me in Santa Clarita Valley from Downtown LA. He said he tried Clay Pit in Los Angeles and it was good. So we decided to come here and I drove us. In the end, we were met with a relatively unpleasant experience and mediocre food. We will not return here.

This is a godsend for night owls who want to dine late. There is a feeling that you are in a new version of "The Night Hawk" by Edward Hopper where single diners sit at a diner very late at night passively waiting for what no one knows. The other more important reason to come is the kind, quietly hospitable waiter who took my order. He will ask how piquant you want the curries. I chose a step up from mild, and for me, it had enough of a kick. Much of the food seems cooked to order so the food comes out hot and fresh off the stove. Assam is a state in Northeast India north of the nation of Bangladesh. It's famous for its Assam tea found even in English Breakfast and Irish Breakfast teas. 0) Chutney: a. Mint is puréed in a watery solution that is very subtle. b. Mango Is thick like a confiture/jam. Very pleasantly sweet with chopped fruit in a viscous, sugary liquid that may have a touch of vinegar to enliven the fruitiness. c) Cilantro-Mint: Watery purée with notes of green herbals. 1. Vegan Samosa: a very crisp wrapper perhaps made from a combination of rice & wheat flour contrasts against pleasantly starchy potato flavoured with a touch of aromatic Garam Masala spice blend. Coming out piping hot, great textual contrast between crispy & plush. Excellent must have Samosa. I originally ordered the beef Samosa, but they had run out, and I'm glad they did. 2) Pasanda Curry is made from finely ground nuts like possibly almonds, green herbs, curry powder, and perhaps yogurt for a creamy consistency. It had enough of a chile piquancy to heat up my tongue to stimulate the taste buds. Generous portion of shrimp added a sweet sea minerality and fibrous meatiness that went well. Bit of corn starch to thicken the smooth sauce. Rather subtle, sophisticated dish 3) Coconut Curry definitely has coconut milk fragrance, & flavour that thickens the curry. Also woody, distinct sweetness that seems to come from nutmeg. The chunks of lamb are well done, meaty with a chaw. No hint of that lamb gaminess. 4) Rogan Josh: Very refreshing, light curry with grilled onion, tomato, bell pepper, garlic that are flash sautéed to bring out dulcet tone of the vegetables. Shrimp with marine scented, fibrous meatiness kept this dish subtle and ethereal. This is the kind of delicate curry that is rarely found in Los Angeles. Definitely a must get if heavy handed cooking is to be avoided. 5) Methi Curry: Fenugreek scented stewed thick chunks of lamb braised in a dark brown, heavy sauce. Meat eaters will like this for its emphasized meaty textures. 6) Korma: Lightly, creamy, coconut milk, sweet, smooth curry with a hint of ginger, coriander, puréed cashew to add a "cashew butter" nuttiness. Slightly gamey lamb went well. 7) Yellow Curry: May have a bit of Garam Masala, turmeric for a touch of woody earthiness. Mild and semi sweet. Breast meat chicken. 8) Paswari Naan: Stuffed with a sweet paste of coconut, almond, and raisin baked in Naan flat bread. Great to dip pieces of this bread into Methi Curry gravy. Or Paswari can be eaten as a dessert with Cumin scented Chai. 1-7a) Basmati Rice accompanies all currys. Nutty with dry texture, lightly friable, al dente. This rice is made to go with savory, multi-spiced, complex South Asian food as a textural contrast and palate neutral relief from all the complex spice mixtures. Quiet late night dining along with meditative, musical South Asian chanting that is contemplative and introspective to facilitate mindfulness in order to truly appreciate the food to the fullest. 4+ stars
