Tikka masala and Cheese Garlic Naan

Our waiter was the sweetest man ever! My husband and I found this spot on yelp and decided to give it a try and damn are we happy we did!! Food was amazing so flavorful and me as a girl really liked the live plants as decorations on the wall lol! We got the meat samosas the Tikka Masala and Tandoori chicken

Butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, vegetable biryani, rice Everything packaged nicely

I ordered takeout from Assam Indian Kitchen last night. I called in the order and picked up 20 minutes later as promised. The restaurant itself is not in the best of areas, but the food was good. It is a small restaurant on Van Nuys Blvd. The food was piping hot when opened. I tried the vegetable biryani, the butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala. Also got some cheese naan. The biryani was very good and flavorful. The chicken curries came with extra plain rice. Everything was very tasty. The chicken in the tikka masala was a little tough with some bites, but overall very good. The naan was very very good too. Overall, pretty solid food. I'd get takeout from here again.

The Food here is Fabulous!!!! So flavorful and filling! The cheesy garlic Naan was mouth watering! Perfect amount of cheese and garlic. They put the perfect amount of spice in the tikka masala (even when asking for spicy). Tons of chicken in it as well! Only thing I wish I would have gotten more of is the rice! Way less rice than Tikka Masala! Which I didn't think was fair for the price, but the food is so good I'll probably still get it again haha! They are always super nice here! They even bring takeout to your car sometimes! This is family owned which is important, because they care more about the service and quality of food they provide! The inside is super small, I definitely don't recommend for large groups. However my boyfriend said they renovated a little so there is a bit more space than before which is good! Pretty good for date night though since it is intimate. The Parking here sucks though since it is street parking. Again probably better place for takeout than sit down. This place always makes me happy! The food and the service. Whenever I crave Indian this place is one of the few to pop into my mind which says a lot! Please check it out!

Assam is a fresh Indian Cuisine Restaurant with good service and cozy ambiance... A mix of streamline dinner meets bright intimate eatery. Typically available for late lunch, dinner and/or late nite/until midnight Wednesday through Monday (closed on Tuesdays). I used to live around the corner from this area, but relocated shortly right before Assam opened its doors in 2021. I enjoy the in-person much more than takeout or delivery. The food flavors are solid and they have a good selection of beverages (non-alcoholic). Their samosas a very thick, flaky, doughy and loaded with filling. Definitely my favorite dish here by far. A.I.K. makes a variety of Naan and classic Indian dishes. I ordered delivery tonight and some items were left out and portions felt a bit less than when dining in. The Aloo Gobi is okay! The Vegetable Biryani is worth trying! The Veggie Curry was a bit under salted or at least it was most recently... The house salad was very fresh, but on the mild side as far as dressing and didn't have some essentials promised like shredded carrots or oranges... Which is kind of odd, but it did have other great veggie and is a good portions for a house/side salad... Was really surprised the drinks weren't delivered tonight. Not sure if they ran out or it was just missed. Assam Indian Kitchen is very close to the Van Nuys Courthouse with loads of street parking in the area, especially when they open around 3 PM. I would dine in again (though it's been a long while) versus takeout or delivery as it's a very cute place and everyone is very friendly. So food days seem much better than others, hoping for more better ones for Assam. Pro Tip: If you do delivery Assam is also under The Vegan Curry with it's vegan options only (which if you know Indian food - a large majority is vegetarian and/or vegan friendly).

Clockwise: Veggie samosa, baingan bharta, aloo gobi, and lamb tikka masala (read review)

After an afternoon of shopping and planning for a future party, my friend and I decided to pick up Indian food or dinner. Based on the all the raving yelp reviews I was expecting a 5 star meal, but what we ate was 3 star at best. Veggie Samosa: 4 stars. By the time we got home to eat dinner, the samosa was still hot and the dough was still crispy. The filling was creamy, well seasoned. Served with tamarind and mint sauce, I would eat this appetizer again. Lamb Tikka Masala: 4 stars The flavor of the sauce was good, not too spicy, not too mild. The flavor of the lamb was also good, but the lamb was just a tad overcooked but still quite good, and at a 4 star rating, I would also order this dish again. Aloo Gobi: 3 stars This dish was ok. I couldn't shake the feeling that the cauliflower in this dish was previously frozen, but I can't prove it. My partner makes great Aloo Gobi and he makes a 5 star version of this dish. Perhaps I should have ordered a different vegetable dish? Baingan Bharta: 1 star. Oh man. Do not order this dish. This dish should be taken off the menu. The eggplant comes pureed to death to the point where it is a mushy paste and quite slimy in texture. They use a heavy hand of cinnamon on this dish and quite frankly, I wish not to speak of this dish again. What a shame since I really love Beingan Bharta. I would order the samosa and Lamb Tikka Masala again, but I'm not rushing to come back to this place.

Even though I ordered the three item combo, I ended up just buying another fourth item because I liked it so much. The service is really nice and they gave great recs. All of the curries are unique. Everything is already freshly made when you arrive so it's grab and go. They do have seating and a wide range of drinks. Chicken tikka masala reminds me of tomato basil soup but with a bunch of different spices and chicken added to it and it's comforting because you can eat it with their fragrant rice! And It was the sweetest of the four options but I personally like sweet and savory so this was up there for me. The butter chicken was more savory and garlicky. The palak paneer was my favorite, I'd order that again for sure. The cheese melts in your mouth bc it's so soft. They blend the spinach completely which I really like not to have to chew my spinach. It's very creamy and rich! I wonder if they use coconut milk? The goat curry bone in was the spiciest and most savory of the four options but was a pleasant heat that comes later. They gave good portions of meat and honestly so worth it! The two or three item combos come with naan! They share a parking lot with other businesses in the small plaza. What I didn't like was how my boyfriend was treated and how long it took to get my mango lassi and the papadum appetizer and the rest of the vegetarian combo meal we ordered. We waited around 25 min and finally flagged down the server to ask about the mango lassi and the food. The table behind us that arrived some time after we did were given their papadum starter, drinks, and food before we were. What was more, another server came with our food and joked our kufta dish has chicken in it. Then he said he's kidding. This was not funny. I am, after all, vegetarian. The kuftas were too thick and hard to eat with naan. I did like the garlic basic naan. The rotis were too tough. We took the leftovers but neither of us actually wanted the food. I discarded all of it. This is most unlike us as we hate wasting food but the whole experience and food itself left a bad taste in my mouth. We came here very hungry after a long day. We browsed for restaurants open after 10pm on Sunday and finally came across this place. My boyfriend had come to visit me in Santa Clarita Valley from Downtown LA. He said he tried Clay Pit in Los Angeles and it was good. So we decided to come here and I drove us. In the end, we were met with a relatively unpleasant experience and mediocre food. Plenty of seating to enjoy your meal. There's a fridge on the way to the cashier with plenty of dessert, ice cream, and beverage choices to choose from. The fullness & deliciousness from the food distracted me and had me forget, but will definitely try the Mango Lassi & Rice Pudding on my next trip! The pudding's made with basmati rice so that's what caught my attention. Was greeted by a nice gentleman who provided me with great recommendations. He even checked in on all his customers while we were eating. 10/10 customer service our whole time there. He was kind enough to give us a drink & rice on the house to go along with one of our entrees! We got: Chicken Korma and Lamb Briyani The chicken was in a yellow, creamy sauce - curry. The aromatics & spices put into these dishes were so comforting. Both the chicken & lamb were so savory, tender and each bite was very flavorful. The rice was very fluffy and delicious. Garlic Naan Served fresh and warm. Not oily, but wasn't dry! Every bite was soft. The garlic was subtle, but perfectly present in every bite. Samosas These were HEAVEN SENT. Idk what kind of seasoning or filling they used - I believe there were potatoes, lentils, veggies? I didn't know what to expect for the filling, but it was sooo good. One order came in 3 pieces & they were HUGE. These are a MUST if you go here! They came with 2 sauces which both paired very well w the samosas. If I'm ever craving this kind of food, this is the restaurant I will choose to go to. Best spot in town! Customer service, experience, & food all surpassed my expectations.
