Now, one year later, the tables are full and the waitlist is even longer. Thankfully, we joined the waitlist 1.5 hours before eating and ran some errands before being called. This is the normal experience The Boiling Crab, and a well earned experience at that. The food continues to be stellar and consistent with the locations in the OC. The shrimp, oysters, clams, fries with crab meat has made our tummies full and content. The whole shebang is the way to go. The staff themselves is aplenty. I feel like Boiling Crab just doesn't hit the way it used to. With so many other seafood boil spots around now, I feel like the quality of the sauce really needs to step back up. I ordered the XXX sauce and unfortunately it was super watery and didn't have that thick, flavorful coating I remember Boiling Crab having. The flavor just wasn't there for me this time. While this place is well known for their seafood boil bags, I spontaneously came in recently because I was craving fried food and an ice cold beer. I arrived right around the time the lunch rush was dying down so the wait to be seated was minimal. I kept my recent order simple - fried catfish basket w/lemon pepper fries, onion rings, and a Modelo Especial. Linzie did a terrific job setting a wonderful atmosphere. She definitely came across as a pro server-wise, as she anticipated and proactively answered common questions asked while I was ordering. Her recommendation to get the onion rings with mild seasoning was honestly spot on. I do recall her mentioning temporarily covering for another server, Leina - who was on her break at the time. Both ladies were awesome, making my most recent dining experience here super easygoing - thank you both! I've been here months before for 1-2 lbs of mussels, which I also enjoyed. I have not gone to Boiling Crab in years! This is my 1st time at this location and boy was it really busy! Wait time is 1 1/2 hours last Friday and I believe this is the norm lol! People waited to be seated and boy when we were seated, my friend and I ordred like there was no tomorrow! We started out with sweet tea and cajun fries. That was lovely. But wait don't fill up with that! Then came out the fried calamari, that was so tender and not rubbery. Dip it in catsup, marinara, or tartar sauce, that calamari was good. Then came out the 2 1/2 pounds of shrimp with sausage, eggs, potatatoes, corn, mix it with a bag of mussels and that shabang with a cup of on the side sauce...oh my word what have a I done! Came here about 3 days ago with my sister. I know this place gets busy, but the wait was honestly longer than expected. Not sure if it was just bad luck or what, but I noticed people who arrived after us were getting seated before us, which was frustrating. If it wasn't for that, I would've easily given this place 5 stars. Once we got inside, everything changed. The service was amazing -- servers and bussers were constantly checking in, refilling drinks, and making sure we had everything we needed. Easily 10/10 service once you're seated. The food? Delicious. Seriously, no complaints there. Just a heads up: if you don't like garlic, this might not be your spot because they don't hold back. But overall, the flavors were on point and definitely worth it. They really don't have much competition in what they do. We have passed the Torrance location on Hawthorne Blvd many times and decided to stop and try it. Oh my gosh! It was outstanding! I had the gumbo (so flavorful) and the calamari .. my favorite. The calamari was actually tender and not like little rubber bands, which is like so many seafood restaurants serve it. They had great flavor and I dipped them a tiny bit in a marinara sauce so not to take away from the delicate flavor. Thank you! We'll be back! Clean restaurant and amazing servers. read more

This easily ranks in my top three restaurants. I've been coming here for years and never get tired of the shrimp bag whole shebang mild, it's just that good. I highly recommend adding corn in the bag for extra flavor. I always go for the rice and sweet potato fries, and the fried catfish is absolutely delicious. Even the Coke tastes better here less syrupy, if that makes sense. Service is pretty quick once you're seated, even though the place is usually packed. CONS- the food was not good at all. My crab leg shells were so soft there wasn't a need for a cracker. The flavor was bland. I enjoy kickin crab or making it at home. One of them was adding lemon pepper seasoning to our onion rings...GAME CHANGER (ate them so fast!) Also had a standard bag with sausage, potato, egg, etc... That said, once you're seated and the food hits the table, it makes a strong case for why people keep coming back. The boil is where this place shines. The flavor is bold, buttery, and loaded with that signature Cajun kick. Whether you go shrimp, crab, or mix it up, everything comes out hot, messy in the best way, and seasoned all the way through. The whole experience of cracking shells and soaking everything in that sauce is worth it. Service is decent once you're in, but nothing that stands out enough to make up for the wait. If you're not on the waitlist, don't even think about it. The location is always busy even during the week and early afternoons. The staff are all fairly young, which is a good thing because they move pretty fast. The issue is the consistency with the quality of the food. Some weekends, the food is fresh, cooked to perfection, and the sauce is decent. But more often than not, the crab is overcooked, the lobster is overcooked, the shrimp is overcooked, the rice is undercooked, the sauce is too salty or too spicy (the mild sauce in particular). And the one time that I complained about receiving spicy sauce, when I ordered mild, the manager came over to explain the difference between mild and spicy as if I didn't share my preference with my waiter. The manager offered to bring me a separate cup of sauce, which was a completely different spice level, which leads me to believe that they'd rather get the food out quickly than accurately. Overall, it is a good place to hang out and yap with friends over seafood, but definitely nothing that I'd drive long distance for. Yesterday, July 15th my family and I visited The Boiling Crab located in Torrance, CA. We ordered a bag of 1 Lb of Clams, 1 Lb of Mussels, 1 lb of shrimp, corn and potatoes. When they delivered our food we noticed a large rock inside of the bag. "WHY WOULD A ROCK BE INSIDE THE BAG?" Specially that large? Could it be to make the bag heavy to over charge customers food? We were extremely shocked... But when we called the server over to our table and reported the issue, she immediately grabbed the rock, hid it, and said, "Sorry, that's not supposed to be in there". It is not right to do this to customers, a large, franchised and corporate structures company to do this. This is unacceptable. They need to do better. read more

It really helps going on the yelp's waitlist when coming to this place. It gets really busy and the wait gets cut in half when you use the waitlist feature. So when we were seated , Jayra our server was very patient and understandable since this was our first time. You order via à la cart and you order by the pound- it was confusing at first because I didn't know how much shrimp was in a pound. But we figured it out and our server help us thru with the ordering. The food was delicious- the spices were on the spot. Just remember, eating the food gets messy and you have to peel the shrimp. Ordered cajun fries, 1lb shrimp the whole sha-bang mild, 1lb of clams the whole sha-bang mild, and a side of rice to share with my husband. The food took a little while to come out and noticed that the sauce that comes in the bag was very little. Not sure if that's the reason they are promoting "extra juicy" for $5 more. Boiling Crab is just in a league of its own. Straight up -- this place made me loyal to their shrimp boil. I've tried other spots, but nothing hits the same. Once you've had their Shabang sauce, it's hard to go anywhere else. They've got the flavor and spice level dialed in perfectly. The Shabang shrimp are always cooked right and coated heavy in that sauce. And I don't care what anyone says -- they might have the most underrated lemon pepper wings in all of LA. No joke.
