Bird books and optics, and a nice selection of craft beers. Trent is a treasure! What a great place!

As the staff will…read moretell you every time you walk in looking for something, they really don't have a big selection of whatever you're looking for. They really focus on custom club fitting. Went in twice since they moved to the new smaller location. Won't be a third time. Both times I was looking for something specific. First time was an accessory (travel bag) and new shoes, and the second was a new hybrid club. The first time I was given the "we don't have a big selection of those because we focus on club fitting" speech. OK, kinda short-sighted for "golf store" but whatever. I heard the same thing told to two others who came in looking for this or that. Second time I went in I was looking to pick up the hybrid after looking for some advice, maybe even custom order one if possible because I'm taller than most. I began browsing the limited selection. Two other guys in there and they started asking one of the staff about this club or that club. The staffer had little info to provide. Then they asked if they could try one they apparently liked in one of the fitting bays. Nobody else in the store, mind you, except me. The staffer was extremely reluctant to let them hit a couple. He gave the "we really focus on custom fitting" speech but let them hit a few. Staffer never went back to see if they liked it or wanted to buy. No selling or seeing what they did or didn't like. Nothing. They eventually walked out. I'm still there looking at clubs. Haven't been approached by either of the two staffers on duty. Clearly interested in picking something up but also probably need a little advice. Been there 15 minutes at that point. Decided to let this play out. 25 minutes rolls around and a couple of people walk in. A woman wants an accessory for her husband as a gift. Got "we don't have a big selection of those. We focus on custom club fitting" speech. I don't remember what she settle for but I do remember the staffer just kind of looking at her and saying, basically that's all we have. No real help at all. The other people/person left in disgust after finding nothing. Meanwhile, I'm still there looking at clubs. I heard all about which clubs they were going to trade in with the stores new trade in policy and which clubs they were going to buy because they were having a great conversation between the two of them while I was there. I heard about their personal lives and the courses they liked. I heard about the players they didn't like on the tournament that was playing on tv. Never once did they address me or approach me. After about 35 minutes or so I gave up. As I literally stepped out the door, one of them says, "if you have any questions just let us know". Yeah, I got a question. How do you justify being paid by your employer? Better question. Unless you want to have a customized fitting, why would anyone ever shop here? Not sure they would even do the custom fitting well since they don't seem to have staff who can do the basics. As a parting shot, I went to Spokane recently for a few things and stopped at Golf World or World Golf or some such named store. I walked in to a well appointed store, was greeted as I walked in and asked if I need help with anything. Was given advice. Was allowed to hit a couple of suggestions before we started any talk about the need to custom order. Found one. Spent around $300 and was done in about 20 minutes. That's called SERVICE and SALESMANSHIP, just in cast Golf Universe is confused.

I knew I wanted my own equipment to ski comfortably and apparently it's changed a bit since I went in the 90's lol. Greg showed me several different boots, measured my foot, gave me pointers on picking ski's and the difference of each style, level of ability, width...which was really helpful. He spent at least 20 minutes after I picked the boots I wanted fitting them to my foot so they fit like a glove. Haven't decided whether I'll rent or buy ski's yet but I know I won't regret getting these boots and will be back when I figure out how often I'll be skiing. This store has been around for ages and I highly recommend getting your athletic gear from them. You won't find the great customer service that they provide at the online stores.

It's always a plus shopping somewhere where people know their stuff and love what they do. My family has been going to Sporthaus for over 35 years and there is a reason for that. They have quality product, good service, and everything you need. If you have kids- check out the buy back program.. They are incredibly patient with even the most impatient customers (I've seen it). I saw a comment about someone being frustrated about the wait to get their board waxed... how about being stoked that it's SUCH a good snow year that the there is a wait? Also... they have a great selection of waxes, irons, and all that gear. Have a beer and wax your board if there's a wait. It will make you appreciate their work even more...... hashtagsupportlocal

The store is fairly large, with an additional room containing sports gear and equipment towards the rear. Underarmour is the most visible brand, although they carry several others. I was glad to see a decent selection of shoes, it's always hard for me to find just the right pair of shoes - especially running shoes. Though I did not see Saucony (my current favorite), when I need a new pair, I'm sure I will find another here. My friend was very happy to see they carried shin splint supports and compression shorts. She also found a neat titanium necklace that is supposed to help with focus and fibro myalgia. If she wears it for a while and reports a noticeable difference, I will be impressed. I had never heard of this invention before asking what the purpose of a titanium necklace was. Fortunately, the owner was more than happy to explain what it is and what it does. Very glad to have a fitness store in Baker, it's good to know where to go to get a fashionable pair of mini shorts for running season.

Not by the marshal, not by the wind sweeping off those painted hills but by his own dear wife. And let me tell you, partner, somewhere between the parking lot and Hole One, I received a full audit of my character. Every flaw, every shortcoming laid out cleaner than a freshly raked bunker. This ain't just golf... this is emotional counseling with a view. And what a view it is. Baker country rolls out like a promise you can't quite reach soft valleys, brushed mountains that look close enough to shake hands with but never quite let you. I tried to sneak a few photos, you know, capture the majesty... but apparently my amusement was punishable by spousal decree. Every grin earned me a look that said, "Focus." Lord help me, I tried. Now the game itself? Oh, we weren't out here to politely tap balls and sip sunshine. No sir. We had ourselves a shirt game. Stakes per hole. Pride on the line. Real business. The kind of golf where every shot makes you dig into your soul and ask: what do you have in your quiver? Because here's the rub she wants the whole arsenal. Every club. The full traveling circus. Meanwhile, I stand firm like a stubborn caddie philosopher: you bring a handful, and you MacGyver the rest. Adapt. Improvise. Overcome. And I'd wager every fella out there secretly agrees... though they may not say it out loud. The greens? Better than they have any right to be out in what feels like the edge of civilization. Smooth, honest, and just tricky enough to make you question your putting stroke and your upbringing. And circling it all like a crown you didn't earn but get to wear anyway are these near 360-degree mountain views. A few homes dot the landscape, all new and polished, sitting pretty like they cracked the code on life. It's quiet. It's clean. It's the kind of place that whispers, this is what "getting away" is supposed to feel like. Of course, peace never lasts. My wife on a mission, moving like she's late for a tee time with destiny takes off ahead to catch the group in front. Meanwhile, I'm back here conducting important research: a little jackassing, a little hee-hee-ha-ha, soaking it all in like a man who knows the scorecard matters less than the story. And somewhere between her waving me forward and me pretending I didn't see it, it hit me This place? It's a little slice of heaven disguised as a golf course. You want country without losing comfort? You want space to breathe, laugh, compete, and maybe get humbled a time or two? You come out here. Just... maybe bring fewer clubs. And thicker skin.
