The Boathouse is one a of a few well known restaurants along Queensferry's high street. As the other reviewers pointed out, there is actually a restaurant, bar and a bistro section. The restaurant side of things specialises in fish. i have to say I didn't have a great time here. Not because it wasn't a nice restaurant. It was clean, friendly, and yes there is a fantastic view of the Forth. But this place really isn't for vegetarians. Basically everything is fish. If you are a vegetarian be prepared to only eat starters or the tapas (even the nachos I was going to go for only came in beef variety). I can't rate The Boathouse too low because I can appreciate that for lovers of fish, and general flesh-eaters, this place is really nice. The fish my friend was eating did smell nice and they certainly seemed to appreciate it. As with most seafood expect to pay a little extra. Prices for main meals are around £10, which compared to Edinburgh averages still isn't bad at all.

Huge portions of fish and chips. Perfect view of the bridges. Conveniently located on High Street.

Very very reasonable dressed crab and fresh lobster. On a sunny day (yup you are in the East Neuk, so these days are not too rare) between Easter and September, come down to the harbour for some al fresco dining. It is a little bit of New England in Scotland! Here is how you tackle the lobster shack. 1. Make sure it is open - opening hours are variable, but usually open weekends from Easter, and in the height of the summer, they are open during the week for lunch. 2. Bring glassware/plastic cups and corkscrew if you are wanting juice/wine 3. Get some cash - they don't take cards 4. Go to the hut and pick your lobster, they are live and will be freshly boiled for you. 5. Whilst lobster is boiling, go to the co-op across the road and buy some wine, bread, salad or anything else you want to have with the lobster/crab - the lobster/crab is just served as is, no lemon or anything. 6. Come back and grab yourself a bench, get your delish lobster/crab which will be served on a glass plate with real cutlery. 7. Enjoy - guaranteed you will! But please, please, don't tell anyone else - this is a really special place, we don't want it too busy now!!

There is a nice variety of seafood on offer on the menu but the better choice is to select your fish from tonight's specials on the wall. That's what we did and we were very satisfied. The wine menu is limited. We chose a Pouilly Fuse that was unfortunately not drinkable. The staff were kind enough to take it back. I then chose the IPA that was much better. The appetizer recommended by our server was the mussels. These were best mussels I've ever enjoyed. It was served with a sauce made with garlic, butter, milk, and onion. It's good enough to be a soup! Our sides included brocholini and halumi. Both were excellent. The brocholini was flavorful and crunchy with a nice sauce-though know that the sauce has ham in it. The cheese, lightly fried is served with a spicy sauce that I really enjoyed, bit was too much for my wife. It was superb. We selected the monkfish and sea bass for our mains. Both were excellent, moist and flavorful fish-generous portions of each. This was an extremely satisfying and enjoyable meal. It was I've of our best in Scotland. We were frankly unable to eat more and we didn't have dessert.

So I went back the next day by myself, I did rsvp for 1 for 3pm, which was't necessary. After looking at the menu, went with: - Haddock & Chips with mushy peas. One thing I do like about this place was that, they offer different fish options, but no cod, thus I went with haddock. They do better job with frying their fish. The fish and the batter did not fall apart. The mushy peas was not my cup of joe :) When you walk in, to your right is the kitchen, where you can order for take out, walk towards the left to go to the dining room. The service was mediocre, thus only three stars. The wait staff rarely stopped by to check on you or refill your water, you had to hunt them down to get more water.
