Had an awesome seafood dinner here on my most recent trip to Edinburgh. Located just a few blocks from my hotel, in the heart of New Town area. My mom and I walked in around 6pm on a Saturday and got an indoor table with no problems. We ordered half pot of mussels in white wine, sea bass, and small bowl of seafood chowder. Everything was sooooo yummy and fresh! Nothing was overly salted or cooked and you could really just taste the freshness of the food. Never knew that Edinburgh was known for their seafood but now I see why. Our waiter was also so friendly and attentive - overall really enjoyed my dining experience here and would recommend to future travelers!

Mussel Pot - Natural: cooked in its own juice! So fresh and tasty

This was our first meal in Edinburgh, and we were really craving seafood. This Mussel Inn was our perfect place to dine! We had a great seafood meal, and the service was also superb. Definitely order the mussel pot as it is their specialty here! Food-wise: we absolutely loved our Mussel Pot, we picked the Natural flavor one as the mussels were very fresh, so cooking it in its own juice already provides sufficient flavor or umami! It was a good portion for the price, and it also comes with a side of bread. If you want more bread, it will be extra cost! The king scallop appetizers were really good - super fresh and tender, and it was our first time trying out blood sausages (black pudding)! Not bad I have to say, especially with the citrusy sauce that came with it. Finally, the hot seafood platter was really fresh and flavorful, we were scraping the plate with our bread in the end :) the platter was rather different from what we were expecting - it's not your average seafood stew, but rather a platter with fresh king and queen scallops, tiger prawns and mussels poached in seafood sauce and topped with grilled fillet of sea bass and a chive arme fraiche! We even asked if we can switch out the mussels, and add more of everything else, and the kitchen agreed! The restaurant was still packed even though we were in the later hours for lunch, the room is bright and cozy, good place for friends gather and dates. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place to my friends in Edinburgh, especially if they enjoy seafood!

    Haggis Bon Bon starter. Yum!

Service was amazing and the food was equally as phenomenal! I did not have a reservation, but got a seat in the bar area. They were very accommodating!

Fantastic seafood at this Rose Street restaurant. Come here for some kicking Moroccan mussels. The sea bass was good too. We also had a sav blanc bottle too. Sticky date pudding was good too! Scallops were good too.

This is one of the best seafood place in Edinburg also it's very close to the train station and city center. The space is big and we came here for lunch were seated right away. They have lunch special offer for a bowl of mussel deal. Service is attentive We ordered a 1/2 kilo mussels in the classic shallot wine and cream sauce ( they have 5 different sauce to choose from) for about £8 very decent price. Mussels are not big, that's just what they have here but very fresh. Tried whitebait, which is the tiny fishes deep fried you eat as chips, good but could use more salt. The tiger prawn portion is a little bit small, just only 4 small pieces, although it tastes good. The fries are ok, garlic bread is a must if you have mussels that you can deep in the sauce

King Scallops salad for the win!

The previous reviews helped to keep us interested in coming here while visiting Edinburgh, drop ins will find it tough to eat here so highly recommend reserving a table which was super easy online. I had the salad with king scallops and my hubby got the lobster special. Our last dinner in Edinburgh was here and it was so good!!

We stumbled on this restaurant and it was a wonderful stumble. While in Edinburgh we were interested in eating seafood and Mussel Inn was a great find! This is one of two locations- the first one being in Glasgow. The style of the menu sort of makes it look like a chain restaurant but it isnt, and nothing else makes it seem that way. We ate mussels (of course!)- 'natural' style - half a kilo is about 30 and that was the right amount for one person. We also ordered the Hot Seafood platter which was an enormous amount of food- all perfectly well done, and a Caesar salad which had three whole anchovies layers across it- more seafood! The wine list was surprisingly extensive. This place was hopping and we were able to walk in and get a table but you might want to call ahead for a reservation.

We tried to get in this restaurant before but it was just to busy BUT tonight we only had 10-15 min wait; Bruce had read good reviews on it! It is small inside but there is more seating outside but the rain was on and off so most wanted inside. We ordered the seafood soup.. in a thin white cream sauce with fish pieces and potatoes; good but not that good. Then we order the seafood pasta with prawns (shrimp), mussels and scallops but there was no scallops but about 18-20 mussels and about 4/5 shrimp. The sauce was good and believe it or not, not a ton of pasta (which is good) when we left I looked at menu to see if pasta was suppose to have scallops and it was but they were out but the mussels were definitely in! Mussels from the Shetland Island according to the chalk board.

I was craving for some seafood and this place was one of the highest rated. Pretty close to all the tourist attractions. I did the lunch special thing which was like a bowl of mussels and choice of fries or salad -- so not a hard decision at all, I went with the fries. And I also got the seafood pasta. First off, I regret doing the lunch special because the bowl of mussels was a tiny portion and the fries weren't that great. And it's hard to make fries that aren't great. I would've just gotten a bucket of mussels instead. I'm typically not a huge fan of mussels either but these mussels were so good, I was definitely debating whether I should get an additional bucket halfway into my meal. They were not stingy with the seafood pasta either, a lot of shrimps and mussels. I would've given five stars for the food alone but took down a star for the service. I was given the pasta without utensils and I had to remind the waitress three times for it and also had to remind her another three times for my Diet Coke. Great experience otherwise and the restaurant had great vibes. Saw a few other solo travelers eating here as well which made me feel a little less out of place.

Can not recommend highly enough! I never associated Scotland with seafood, but these were possibly the best mussels I have ever had. We got there a bit before they opened, and you know it must be good when there were other parties lining up before open as well! Due to the unseasonably warm weather, we were told that each person could only half a half kilo of mussels each. We had no reference of what that meant, but I think it was the perfect amount for a hungry family of four :) We got a kilo of mussels in shallot sauce which came in a big pot. The sauce adds flavor without being too heavy. Pro tip: save some of the complimentary bread to dip into the sauce and eat with the mussels...sooooo good!! We also got the shellfish pasta as well as the hot seafood platter which were also excellent. Not only is the seafood fresh, but the pasta was fresh as well. For dessert, we got the rocky road parfait, which was recommended by our waiter. It was something I've never had before, and while I'm glad I tried it, I'm not sure I would order it again.

The cold seafood sampler platter had excellent selections and some pieces were really good, but others seemed dry and less than fresh. The entrees were all delicious and the poached monkfish itself was superb - but we were all non-plussed by bathing this beautiful rich fish in a spicy curry sauce. The desserts were not their forte, so feel free to skip it. The Cullen Skink as an appetizer is a must-try! So why the low score? Well, unfortunately, the waitstaff was absolutely abhorrent. We, along with other tables around us were ignored. It was so bad that, in order to get any service, refresh a drink, get a napkin, a dessert menu or whatever, I often had to stand up and wave my arms to get the attention of the staff. The absolutely lowest point came when I flagged down our server to get a dessert menu. We ordered from it immediately (because we didn't want to wait forever until someone passed our way again). She took our order, wiped our table off and went to the kitchen area. 30 seconds later, she returned with her purse on her shoulder and left for the evening. Did our dessert order go in? Nope. After about 10 minutes, we flagged someone else down and asked about our dessert. They were not aware of any dessert order and put one in for us. 5 minutes later, it was served. Ridiculous. A gentleman at the table beside us had to go find someone so he could get his bill to pay it. Once he led the waitress back to his table and paid her, we grabbed her attention just so we could get our bill and get out of there. It's a hard lesson for us to learn that, no matter how good the food is at a restaurant, terrible service can make for a n overall horrible experience. If you want to try this place, maybe get something to carryout and let the waitstaff learn how to provide proper service before eating there and ruining what should have been a pleasant meal.

I've not tried the cocktails but I'm assured by a friend they're worth a trip. I tried the main restaurant on Saturday night as part of a big group celebrating a friends birthday. They were more than happy to accommodate large groups, balloons and birthday cake. Nothing was an issue at all. Wine wasn't overpriced. Instead of my normal go-to Thai options I mixed it up a bit with a starter of Marinated quail and a main of Osso Bucco Massaman. The quail was delish! Crispy, salty, tasty. I would have sucked the bones dry if I wasn't trying to be a lady in front of the group! Ha ha. A really nice alternative to chicken. I'm not sure i was entirely sold on the main though which is probably my aversion to hunks of meat and bone, not a reflection of the quality of the dish. The meat was slow cooked and tender, but I was put off a bit with the sliced bit of bone marrow in the centre. I guess I'm not an Osso Bucco kinda gal really. Its definitely in a "man food" category.
