Went here on our recent visit to Edinburgh. Saw it on the episode of "Somebody Feed Phil" and thought it'd be fun to visit. So glad we did. There were 13 of us, they couldn't accommodate us in the restaurant but we did takeaway and found enough tables on the deck. It was nice day fortunately and a very great setting. That along with the food made the trip well worth it. Maybe the best fish and chips of all through our travels in Ireland and Scotland. I also got an order of the crispy crab claws which I had never had but were awesome!! I didn't understand having to pay 1.5 for Tarter Sauce at a fish and chips spot but it is what it is I guess. Overall everyone had a great meal in a great setting on the water. Well worth the taxi ride!

The fish and chips here might be the best spot in Edinburgh, however it has issues it needs to resolve. We have visited countless times, both through the take-away as well as through the restaurant itself. We had one instance when taking food away on what seemed like a quiet night for them, whereby our chips were soggy. But that is one bad experience out of far too many to count. The service in the restaurant needs improving too, and this becomes especially prevalent when both the restaurant and the take-away get busy. Improve this and The Fishmarket would be almost perfect.

First time going. Good food. Nothing fancy and the food was like a wow as it taste like many other fish place. The service was good and polite people and the atmosphere was good. Would recommend.

Was in Edinburgh for 3 days and everyone recommended the Fishmarket for fish & chips. We didn't have reservations, so we just did Take Out (line was a little long but went pretty fast, took 20 minutes). We got Haddock (that's the one people recommended) and Cod, and we couldn't tell a huge difference but the Haddock standard (£8) was same size as the Cod (£10). The large Haddock (£10) was big enough for 2 people to share if you're not too hungry.

Great food, ambiance, and service. We had the breaded haddock, battered haddock, and shared a bowl of the smoked chowder. Highly recommend. Service was also very attentive.

Amazing fish and chips! Goes by piece of fish. Decent chips. Didn't come with lease and we never got our order of them so that was sad. Also had some oysters which were delicious as well. Right on the water. A cool spot.

Our Airbnb host recommended this as the best place for fish & chips in Edinburgh. I don't have much to compare to, but I will say I was not disappointed! My friend and I both got the haddock. There were other fish options as well that you could try.

Had a very nice meal here. Got the standard haddock and chips with battered fish. The fish was great, crispy batter and fresh. The chips maybe could have been a bit hotter and crispier. I wish they had picked onions, as you can't have a fish supper without them! Nice restaurant, reasonable size and there is a good outdoor spot to eat on a nice day.

The food here is amazing! So so so good. The portions are huge as well. Not the coolest or fanciest spot. But absolutely worth checking out.

Awesome product. Totally disorganized. Over a hour and a half wait at 5h30. Those behind in the line must wait more than 2 hours.

The cold seafood sampler platter had excellent selections and some pieces were really good, but others seemed dry and less than fresh. The entrees were all delicious and the poached monkfish itself was superb - but we were all non-plussed by bathing this beautiful rich fish in a spicy curry sauce. It has plenty of competition so hopefully it will up its game in the future.

The desserts were not their forte, so feel free to skip it. The Cullen Skink as an appetizer is a must-try! So why the low score? Well, unfortunately, the waitstaff was absolutely abhorrent. We, along with other tables around us were ignored. It was so bad that, in order to get any service, refresh a drink, get a napkin, a dessert menu or whatever, I often had to stand up and wave my arms to get the attention of the staff. The absolutely lowest point came when I flagged down our server to get a dessert menu. We ordered from it immediately (because we didn't want to wait forever until someone passed our way again). She took our order, wiped our table off and went to the kitchen area. 30 seconds later, she returned with her purse on her shoulder and left for the evening. Did our dessert order go in? Nope. After about 10 minutes, we flagged someone else down and asked about our dessert. They were not aware of any dessert order and put one in for us. 5 minutes later, it was served. Ridiculous. A gentleman at the table beside us had to go find someone so he could get his bill to pay it. Once he led the waitress back to his table and paid her, we grabbed her attention just so we could get our bill and get out of there. It's a hard lesson for us to learn that, no matter how good the food is at a restaurant, terrible service can make for a n overall horrible experience. If you want to try this place, maybe get something to carryout and let the waitstaff learn how to provide proper service before eating there and ruining what should have been a pleasant meal.

For those familiar with original place, you'll know the food is top notch quality and yummy! They've also opened up an adjoining bar called The Bangkok bar which serves Thai street food. V handy if you're down that end of town for drinks and fancy a tasty small bite alternative. Sometimes Thai food just hits the boozing spot like nothing else!! I've not tried the cocktails but I'm assured by a friend they're worth a trip. I tried the main restaurant on Saturday night as part of a big group celebrating a friends birthday. They were more than happy to accommodate large groups, balloons and birthday cake. Nothing was an issue at all. Wine wasn't overpriced. Instead of my normal go-to Thai options I mixed it up a bit with a starter of Marinated quail and a main of Osso Bucco Massaman. The quail was delish! Crispy, salty, tasty. I would have sucked the bones dry if I wasn't trying to be a lady in front of the group! Ha ha. A really nice alternative to chicken. I'm not sure i was entirely sold on the main though which is probably my aversion to hunks of meat and bone, not a reflection of the quality of the dish. The meat was slow cooked and tender, but I was put off a bit with the sliced bit of bone marrow in the centre. I guess I'm not an Osso Bucco kinda gal really. Its definitely in a "man food" category. The sauce was amaaaaazing though! I had a few spoons waved my way for a taste. This place is well worth a visit!!!

So now there is one on Broughton Road that is much more convenient. The food is just divine. The portions are pretty big and worth every penny. They have a delicious cocktail menu and are always keen to make bespoke cocktails depending on what you like. I can't wait to go back!
