So yes, I have taken a full and complete look at this business and my experiences with it and simply had a different experience than others. I took lessons here awhile back and have recently been taking lessons at a different business recently. The lessons at My Chicago Golf started out well. Marcus was attentive and was able to make a difference in my game. Things were going well. That is, until, he slept through one of our scheduled appointments. His system sends out numerous reminders about upcoming appointments to customers. Unfortunately, it seems that it only sends them out to his customers, and not to him. We had an appointment scheduled, and I showed up fifteen minutes early. His storefront was locked, and knocking and ringing the doorbell did not yield any type of response. Unfortunately, emailing, texting, and leaving voicemails also did not make a difference either as they all went unanswered. After waiting about forty-five minutes for a sixty minute lesson, he finally opened the door. At that time, however, the customer for the next hour was already waiting at the door! That customer was courteous enough to let me use his scheduled hour, and he rescheduled with Marcus. As the lesson went on, Marcus did apologize for sleeping through it. He said that he overscheduled himself that morning, which caused him to oversleep during a nap. He was definitely drowsy throughout the appointment, and wasn't entirely alert or focused on my swing. What disappointed me the most, however, was that he didn't take responsibility for his mishap. Mistakes happen to everyone. Apologizing is only the first step in taking responsibility for those mistakes. He didn't offer an extra free lesson or a refund, or anything for that matter, to make up for his major mistake. This last part that is why he is losing two stars. If he would have taken responsibility for his failures, I wouldn't be as disappointed with him. I even would have used the final lessons I had in the package I purchased. Instead, I let them go unused because I was so let down by him. Missing an appointment completely without notice and/or an acceptable reason is a huge negative and a large problem. These lessons are not cheap. What's even worse is not taking responsibility for it. Mistakes can be overlooked, if the person making those mistakes owns up to them and takes responsibility. Unfortunately that didn't happen here.

As someone who is just getting started golfing, he has really stressed the fundamentals while still pushing me to get to a point where I have the necessary skills to be able to practice and grow independently. The difference I see after each lesson is measurable and I've always left with things to practice (with videos demonstrating the exercise) so I can continue to see growth. Additionally, his location is a fantastic setup with some of the newest golf simulator technology to really enhance the lesson experience. I did a fair amount of research on different golf instructors and facilities in Chicago and am thrilled I landed on My Chicago Golf. I can't recommend Marcus and My Chicago Golf enough.

I started golfing last year and have been diligently trying to improve my game with little improvement. I signed up mainly for assistance with my driving and chipping. Steve taught me some fundamental skills that improved all aspects of my game. He teaches you how to do something in a way that is clear and easy to understand. In July we attended the tasting to try all the dishes and from there chose all the menu options for the reception dinner. It was very convenient to have the venue as the caterer, and as we had eaten at McWethy's, their restaurant, many times (including the night we got engaged), we knew the food would be good. Since our wedding was in November, we had both the ceremony and the reception in the Great Hall. There was another event there (baby shower) in the morning but we were able to take possession of the bridal room at 2:30 pm and the other group had cleared out by then. My now-husband and his team of friends who were helping set up said the staff did a good job of quickly flipping the venue from the baby shower to ours. My only quibbles with the venue pertain to the bride room. There was only one lit bulb in the chandelier, so lighting was poor; no hangers in the closet; they provided us with a samovar of water upon request, but it leaked all over the vanity (water bottles would have been better); the couch is very low (my maid of honor couldn't get up from it without help; my mother brought in a couple of dining chairs so we weren't just standing, because there was just one other armchair to sit on); and it started out freezing but ended up roasting hot in the room. It was a good thing it was just me, my maid of honor, my mom and my hairdresser, and we had already done makeup at my mom's house in the morning, because if there had been lots of bridesmaids it would have been too crowded! (The bride room is connected to the public ladies room, but it has a keypad lock; the lighting in there is quite ambient as well.) We went for a medieval sort of theme with our wedding, so the Tudor-style beams and large fireplace in the Great Hall worked well with this. Our photographer also took photos outside against the golf course and building, including a lovely but very steep bridge. Cocktail hour was in the Terrace Room while they flipped the Great Hall from the ceremony seating to the tables and dance floor setup. We had arranged for specialty cocktails (named after our cats!) and the bartender delivered! The catering captain, Betty, introduced herself to us and also coordinated the timing of things well (speeches, bringing out the late night snack pretzel wall, etc). All the staff that we interacted with were true professionals. The food was all delicious (we chose NY strip with garlic herb butter sauce, chicken with champagne sauce, and cauliflower steak with pesto sauce as our three entree choices), and it was very helpful that they could make accomodations for vegans, vegetarians, people with gluten allergies, and dairy intolerance. This was quite an affordable yet very beautiful venue for our perfect day! Everything went perfectly as far as I know and we heard so many times from guests how lovely the setting was. I would highly recommend Mistwood as a wedding venue if you are planning for your special event.

Wow did I feel so small and stupid! Nicole came up to me in the waiting area and I could tell she was a little shocked at my age. When she found out I have never played well all she kept asking is what sports I have played. When I said none, she replied with "not even bowling?" With such a condescending attitude i really wanted to walk out then. She made it VERY clear with her attitude that she was very annoyed with having me as a student.
