Have driven past this course for several years on interstate 55. Finally decided to stop one beautiful summer afternoon. Fantastic layout and value for the money. Lots of great elevation changes to challenge almost any skill level golfer. Really enjoyed the view from their signature hole, a great little par three that doesn't let you hit it short. Course is in outstanding condition! It's been a few years since I last played and it did not disappoint. Challenge for whatever level a golfer you are. Owner, George, has a great personality and is all over the course spreading his joy! Lady starter is also a wonderful representative of the welcoming, professional atmosphere. George the Ranger has a bad reputation here at this course. He yelled at my group for playing too slow on our first hole, and no one was even behind us. It will be a better establishment once Management changes. I suggest to go to Heritage Bluffs instead of this course if you want hassle free golf and fun. read more

What a joke! My friends and I arrived early to warm up at the driving range. Nope. Reservation for 9 holes for 4 golfers 7:20am tee time. Pro shop employee said we can only play 18 holes and no driving range. Which was not explained to us over the phone. 18 holes is now $70 for a soaking wet cart and a grocery bag with ice for beverages. No thanks.(cash grab) This is where it gets fun! We are able to golf the back 9. We are literally on the 1st hole of the back 9 green finishing up and ranger George harassed us for going too slow. Mind you, there is not a single soul behind us because it's 7:20am. We once again explained that the reservation was made on the phone for 9 holes. He (George) told us we do not know how to play and other rather infuriating comments. In which, ruined the mood of a nice Saturday morning playing overpriced golf. Give me a break. Been playing here since 96 its had good years and bad but today was the best condition ive even seen. Granted the cinder bunkers were awesome when I first came out here. The only complaint that I did address to the owner was the tee box on 3 is unfortunately not even a tee box from the blues and black tees. Greens were perfect! Fairways were immaculate. Everything including pace where 2somes and 4somes let me.through as a single was oustanding. Played 18 in 2 hours on a perfect day will play here way more for the price and play. Very poor course management. As we made the turn at 9, we saw a group that we did not recognize in the 10th fairway (who just teed off), and another foursomes standing on the tee. When we asked what was going on, we were told by management this group of nine "just showed up and wanted to play nine." Management also said, I hope you understand." Sorry, but I don't understand how two groups can be inserted on the 10th, just as those with tee time are making the turn, especially on a busy weekend! This shows not only poor course management, but great disrespect for those players who made tee times, and expected to play a four hour round. In my 35 years of golfing, I can't remember having this ever occur in the past. Just unbelievable. . read more

Cinder Ridge is a good value and nice layout, unfortunately the day we were there it was plagued by slow play, and frankly, tee times that were scheduled too close together. This is 2020 and thinking maybe they had an off day... so may need to try this one again read more

Great golf course with fair price. The carts are a tad old and require a touch from the choke to get going. However, the course has a unique layout and the groundskeep is pretty top notch compared to other places I've played in the area. There are few bunkers with low lips - easy outs if you get stuck. This is offset by the fact there is a lot of marsh area and woodland that can cause you to loose a ball. Overall, great course and nice staff. read more

Owner was extremely rude and yelled at us for "ball hawking" when we were looking for our golf ball that went into a tall grass area. We tried to explain to him that we were looking for our golf ball and he rudely cut us off yelling at us to move on. Made all 4 of us want to leave and never come back. We are all local and have been going there for years so there will be plenty of friends and family that will now never come back. read more

This was my second time here as a treat from our boss. The course was great. There are some real pretty sights to the whole course. Hole 16 is the most challenging par 3 I've hit. I would like to see the PGA big boys and girls play here. Lastly the water jugs they have for you on a few of there holes are old and uninviting. But the water was so cold and awesome! Cinder Ridge is a solid golf course. I play the Channahon golf course, which is also very good. Pros: - Well kept - Excellent value / cost - Well designed course - quiet - scenic The only con is the location. It's another 15 minutes south of I-80, but worth the drive. read more

Very nice course. The course was in fantastic condition. Pace of play was excellent. They heat the groups spaced off the first tee and it moved well all the way through. Good variety of holes where you had to hit less than driver on some. Some of the holes were not as I remembered them due to the tornado a few years back. All in all a very nice course worth playing. Note: bring your range finder, no GPS on the carts. read more

Nice property but it's run by people that feel the need to follow you around for the entire round and make sure you aren't drinking any beer you brought in. Constant surveillance. They are so worried about the pennies here that they make a round of golf anxious. Felt like a criminal, won't be back. One ranger asked us for a pencil, so he could make it less awkward? He obviously just wanted to get a closer look at us. The whole experience made me feel like I was golfing on the set of Deliverance. Also, if you want to buy beer, be prepared to leave a credit card or ten bucks cash if you want a cooler to keep your beer in. It's just another short sighted penny wise pound foolish policy here. They also have signs everywhere telling you what to do or not to do, so if the constant surveillance by the rangers isn't enough there are literally signs everywhere that make you feel like you are being lectured. read more

If you're looking for friendly and appreciative service stay away. The women in the pro shop is extremely rude and not accommodating. Though the course is fun and challenging, I won't return due to the unprofessionalism of the pro shop employee. There are too many other choices to have to put up with this type of treatment. I will point out that other employees that I had contact with were great. read more

We've golfed here several times in the past, and today I remembered why we haven't been back for the last two years. The pace of play here is TERRIBLE. The course needs to hire rangers to police the players more thoroughly. The last THREE times I've been there, I have been stuck behind rude foursomes who just will NOT let a twosome play through. After a 20 minute wait on each tee from the 4th through the 9th, we were just not willing to take three hours to play the final nine. We quit and went home.We were more than willing to forfeit the 80 bucks we paid for 18 just to get the heck out of there. It's a real shame that golf etiquette is no longer honored by players or enforced by golf courses anymore. In the good old days, golf courses would pair up twosomes so that the pace of play moved smoothly. It just isn't done anymore, and with more and more players out there, it SHOULD be. As for the course itself, the greens were terribly maintained and the rest of the course is beginning to look very shabby. It used to be well manicured and the namesake "cinder" sand traps are a thing of the LONG past. If you have 5 1/2 hours to kill on a Saturday for a round of golf, this place is for you.
